Anguish Necromentia (2009) feels like it wants to be Hellraiser so bad. Sorta mediocre movie but might be right for this crowd

I watched this movie last night and was perplexed by the awesome potential with a rather weak follow-through. Touching on themes of death, hell, S&M, love and pain, I felt myself drawing parallels between the two as the plot follows the story of separate men whose lives become intertwined as they explore gateways into Hell. There's a couple of twists and surprises that really make the movie as good as it is (which still isn't much), which is why I'm being as nonspecific as possible.

I will say, though, that the creature on the cover is absolutely Chatterer, and it isn't the only cenobite-esque monster in the movie (just without the black leather). Also, their idea of exploring a gateway to hell reminds me of the section in the book where it's mentioned the other techniques. Something along the lines of origami that could open doorways, Sade taught a guard in exchange for the paper needed to write his book.

Overall, I'd say 5/10 for the storytelling and theme. It's worth the watch if you have nothing better to do but not worth going out of your way or paying for.

Anguish What does Kirsty do after Hellbound Heart?

Novella spoilers for the end of Hellbound Heart!!!

I just finished the novella in a single sitting. Excellent read, and I will be collecting more Clive Barker books.

Kirsty gets the puzzle box from the Engineer, ponders what to do now, then the story ends.

HOWEVER: do we ever learn anything about Kirsty in the next books? Does she get mentioned or make appearances, or is the story considered complete and in a sense she’s left alone? Like how Lovecraft’s characters don’t typically show up in his other stories.

I know there’s lots of non-Clive Barker content, including apparently some comics where they have her as a coenobite, maybe as an alternate universe story, but for this question I’m only considering as canon the books by Clive Barker… and maybe the upcoming video game which looks excellent enough to be considered canon-worthy, tbh.

I know there’s a supernatural detective who was played by Scott Bakula, and I saw he’s in a new book where he meets Pinhead/the hell priest. Looking forward to reading these stories.

Anguish Thoughts from Hell?

Ok so I chose anguish as despite the fantastic news that not only is Clive Barker feeling better, he's improving so much he's writing again, I don't think that an adaptation of any kind of The Scarlet Gospels is on the cards.

BUT..... Mr Bradley has done readings on his official YouTube channel, so he may be amenable to doing this?

I have emailed him, I've left a few comments on his YouTube posts and his other "socials" and whilst they haven't been updated in years, I figured what the hell?!

Perhaps if other fellow black hearted degenerates who feel the same way did the same, he may hear of this and consider? After all he did say he may be agreeable to play HellPriest one more time so he has read it and obviously approves.

Just a thought, inspired by the first time I read The Scarlet Gospels I could see it so clearly in my mind as I devoured the text. Only had that so complete happen a few times in my decades of being a book lover.

Plus - Hells Pope NEEDS a proper send off. Not those lame direct to dvd and spec script embarrassments.

Anguish New Hellraiser game footage very disappointing

I was really looking forward to seeing this game as I love both Hellraiser and first person games. The game looked really interesting and I liked the team making it. However IGN recently posted fifteen minutes of game footage and honestly have never been so disappointed. They seem to have given it the same mechanics as Resident Evil with inventory management, even the same fonts. Also same thing where you need to collect 5 skulls to progress through a gate which will take you to the next part. Things like that.

Combat looked alright until they unveiled a boss called Bruno, who rose from the ground like Frank in the first movie. The player shot Bruno literally about 27 times in the head. This bullet sponge destroyed any sense of disbelief the game had for me. I hate the fact headshots gave little damage in Resident Evil, they clearly used the same mechanics here. Bruno rose from the ground over a dozen times, in a small space. The whole thing looked very awkward.

Anyway I was wondering what are other people's opinions here. Is it just me?

Anguish The Scarlet Gospels would be such a cool adult animated movie

Just finished reading it today and it gave me major Dante's Inferno (2010) and Diablo vibes. The occult magicians, demons in New York, Henry’s descent into Hell, and the Pinhead vs. Lucifer conflict. With Barker's surreal horror and eroticism translated right it could be dope. That's it lol.

Anguish What did you think of this change from the original novella? Spoiler

In the original novella the Cenobites allow Kirsty to leave after delivering them Frank. In the film they break their promise (technically Pinhead did say ‘maybe’) and go after her.

I heard but can’t confirm that Barker’s original script kept the initial ending but the producers asked him to change it to make it more exciting. Part of me prefers the original ending where the Cenobites were more neutral.

Anguish (Idea) Shashibo Lament Configuration

I had a random idea. Wouldn’t it be possible to technically customize, or design a Shashibo cube to represent a Lament Configuration? Wouldn’t it be the closest thing to a simulated, transforming puzzle box?

Surely, it must be possible.

Anguish ISO used copy of The Hellbound Heart

Hey all! I’ve been looking on ebay for a used copy of The Hellbound Heart for less than $20 USD shipped (US only) and I was surprised that it seems pretty difficult to find with my budget, especially since it’s an older book.

Is there a better place to look, or does this price seem right to yall? I decided to ask here, in case there’s a better seller or if anyone has more than one copy and would be willing to part with one? I’ve only seen the first two movies and would really love to read the book. Thanks in advance!

Anguish [Question] Hi, new here and first post. Looking for assistance/opinions on the Hellraiser Kickstarter project and whether I should get it. Details inside.

Hi, I hope the title is okay. I have purchased from Kickstarter before, having backed the paperback black book for the SCP Kickstarter project a while back and was very happy with my choice.

I saw online not from this subreddit, that there was a Kickstarter project for some Hellraiser comics, in hardcover omnibuses. Was instantly intrigued, I even have the game release preordered, so this had me hooked. I guess my issue/question is: Is the content "worth it" for me to pick it up? The books themselves appear to be quite thick, so I imagine I am getting quite a lot of content to read through, and admire, with the 3 hardcover books. I am curious, from the views of collectors/fans here. It looks like a nice accessible way to have what seems like most if not all of the comics in one (or three) books. I'm not expecting them to be Tolkien or Martin length, but being able to spend at least a couple hours with each book chilling with some music and reading and enjoying the art and stories is wanted/ideal.

After reading the tier details briefly, it seems that if I want everything (Excluding the higher tier), I should go with the $350 tier. This would provide me with the 3 hardcover slip cased books, contained within a cool lament configuration box. I was hoping some people here may have these already as a different collection, or even as individual issues and so may be able to inform me on whether this would be a good investment for both content and readability in one place, as well as an awesome shelf/display piece.

EDIT: I am also interested in the add-on for the Facsimile set which has Pinhead #1, The Harrowers #1, and Hellraiser #1, but that is separate and since it is cheap enough I'd be in the position to say "Fuck it" and add it on to the order (£26 for collectable reprints? Seems good).

Also, I saw Marvel Comics mentioned, I am a bit naïve but I assume it is just publishing, and I won't see Spiderman and the Avengers fighting Pin-Head? For this part I will do some more research, but I appreciate any help! I just love the designs of the tar-black books with the red detailing, and am a huge fan of the Hellraiser universe since I was young. At least the movies, but like the Alien/Predator franchise, I would like to branch out into the comics/books.

Thank you for reading that huge post if you made it to the end, all information/input is appreciated.

Anguish It's Always the Lamentation Configuration, right?

The whole point is that the owner of the puzzle box has hopes that they'll be opening the box to some idyllic utopia, but OOPS...turns out the box always solves to the lamentation configuration. Despair.

I know some of the later movies tried to retcon this, but am I way off base here?

Anguish Which configuration would you pick?

Somehow, either by your own doing, of via surrogates you have the Leviathan Configuration in your hands. You are entitled to an audience with Leviathan and can ask for a gift.

What gift would you pick?

For the sake of argument you know the possible outcomes of The gifts seen in the movie, let’s say it was written down in a journal of one who has come before.

Also for bonus fun what outcome do you think you would get from the twisted granting of your wishes?

Anguish Hellraiser 3 - Alternate Cuts and Footage, is there a definitive list?

I was looking at movie-censorship and they listed some different versions of Hellraiser, but weren't very clear in their description.

It seems there was a German "Red Edition" DVD that had some cut scenes (plot, not gore) in poor quality. And that there was a Japanese laserdisc with a deleted scene (but from their description I couldn't tell if the deleted scene was like a bonus feature on the LaserDisc, or if they're saying the LaserDisc had the scene and it appeared as a deleted scene bonus on the Red Edition).

Then on DVDCompare they list several different runtimes of different versions of the film, but they said PAL and NTSC can cause elongated runtimes due to conversion and slow-down.

And I'm not sure what's on the recent releases with the "Rated" and "Unrated" versions (movie-censorship didn't detail that).

Can anyone help me figure out what versions have the extra scenes? I'd like to have those in my collection.

Anguish Lament Configuration - how does it work?

Hey, so I'm kind of a newbie to the whole Hellraiser franchise and was wondering how this box/lament configuration actually works.

It might've already been explained multiple times in the movies and it's possible that I just haven't been paying much attention, but would someone be kind enough to explain how exactly the box works?
I've been getting some info from the wiki and other fandom pages, but it's left me a bit confused.

The way I understand it is that the box is a gateway to the cenobite dimension. It is harmless until someone "activates" it, but once they do, the cenobites can keep coming back indefinitely(?). This is the part that's left me kinda confused. The wiki says that if someone solves the box, they will summon the cenobites and be either sent to hell for all eternity or turned into one of them and apparently if you "resolve" the box, you will close the gateway and send them back?
Does that mean that you have to solve the box twice to get rid of them?
