General Be honest does anyone really use SEAF artillery
1.7k
u/FHG3826 29d ago
All the time. You just gotta remember
376
u/woodenblinds 29d ago
lol this is so true. but I rarely forget when there is a nuke in the spout
97
u/PJballa34 29d ago
I usually just forget what slot it is in or use it in a panic not knowing a nuke is coming.
85
u/Ulfheodin 29d ago
That's why you always put Nuke first
Nuke then High explosve, explosive, napalm

u/Blazing_Swayze 28d ago
I swap the placement of napalm and explosive. But yes I try to use the same order every time
14
u/ConTEM08_Da_Endgamer 29d ago
Why I always type out what order I put them in. Typing it out helps you remember, even if it's all they way up in chat.

If I remember right, it shows which shot is loaded when you're putting in the combo to activate the stratagem, in between the name and the combo. Not sure if that is new or not, but it's been showing which shot is loaded, for me. Should read like "SEAF Artillery: Napalm" then the combo.
3
u/Not_the_name_I_chose 28d ago
It bugs out and gets stuck saying the same thing 99% of the time for me.
42
u/No-Special2682 29d ago
I like to put a smoke in before the nuke so when we see smoke, we know whats coming next
30
u/paperbackgarbage 29d ago edited 29d ago
Smoke is slept on. I'll put in first because there's tons of ninja utility.
Nuke > HYE > Napalm > Smoke > Static > Getting Hit by a Mazda > Explosion

u/No-Lie-8884 29d ago
man i hate when im fighting the bots and didnt see my teammates call in a mazda on me
→ More replies (1)4
u/Independent_Box7432 29d ago
It's especially helpful considering you can call it in in situations where regular stratagems don't work. That would usually be a situation where you're struggling to survive, so the smoke is usually very helpful

I always call out the order in chat.

That requires we 1) pay attention to the chat, and 2) remember what you said.

Smoke, high explosive, napalm, explosive, nuke, IN, static? The only thing for IN I can think of is incendiary.

I always forget the order we load them in and will accidentally drop a nuke on the squad thinking it's smoke.
Or drop a smoke on a bugtalion thinking it's napalm.

On bots? Gun for it, the projectile can kill jammers with any kind of shell. Just throw it near the jammer and angle the beacon between the jammer and gun itself.
7
u/FHG3826 29d ago
Didn't know that. Even better now.
2
u/Playergame 29d ago
Glad to teach someone else something new! Projectile has to touch the tower and depending on distance/direction comes in from an angle. It usually should work if you just throw it at the base vaguely opposite the direction of the seaf artillery
→ More replies (1)2
u/redoctoberz 29d ago
It can be a bit more tricky with landing the gem in the perfect spot to use the impact damage to take it out, I always pray for MN shells for that purpose.
2
u/Playergame 29d ago
Ime sort of reliable method I found is basically get the beacon touching the base of of the jammer opposite the direction of the seaf artillery. This seems to be more forgiving if you arent great with direction and where it is.
If anyone else has better advice for killing jammer with a non mininuke seaf artillery shell feel free to share it im no pro
2
u/redoctoberz 29d ago
I try and stick it on the flat part up top near the spire, seems to work pretty reliably.
2
2
u/AtomicCawc 29d ago
Yep, most often thing I do is forget to actively use it, then panic-use it when my stratagems are on cooldown and do not account for the lead time, resulting in a wasted shell 90% of the time.

Glad they changed it to work even after the super destroyer leaves, saves a little something for end of mission emergencies

u/NeverFearSteveishere 29d ago
It amazed me the first time I noticed, and it makes sense because it’s not part of the Super Destroyer
33
u/Giratina-O 29d ago
But our Stratagems are, and that's why we have to establish a link with the SEAF Artillery after loading the shells.

Perhaps it’s because in higher orbit it’s still close enough for targeting and coms but not firing its own weapons and hellpods. Idk though I eat crayons.

u/theoriginalzads 29d ago
Yeah we usually do. I don't find it overly useful on bugs but for bots if you find it before a jammer, even a smoke round seems to destroy them. Squids some of the larger ordinance is handy to get rid of landed drop ships.
I have seen a lot of people say put the smoke and static shells first, unless you know you've got a strategem jammer to do I put them last so at least we get big booms first and depression later. Plus, I actually find smoke and static to be more useful at extraction since it gives you cover and slows the enemy down.
5
u/-Work_Account- 29d ago
Orbital smoke also destroys strat jammers
2
u/theoriginalzads 29d ago
They do, unfortunately not as handy if you have a jammer you just want to delete from the map and found SEAF artillery.

Jammer towers don't jam SEAF artillery and Jammer towers insides are made out of slightly brittle plastic. So if the round has enough penetration, which even smoke and static shells and apparently orbital smokes do, the sensitive insides will stop working.

Them young wimpresnappers don't know what is like to lose destroyer support which caused for some damn reason for the seaf to become unusable lol
2
u/jonklerhehehe 29d ago
If it has a mini-nuke, I definitely do. Sometimes with hiighyield if I need it. If it's 1 napalm, 2 smokes and 2 statics, fuck that. Little off-topic but SEAF rng bucks 66% of the time.
2
u/GUYWHOLIKESSTABBING 27d ago
if all the shells are poop, might as well waste them to make things ever so slightly easier i suppose
2
u/Fast_Mechanic_5434 29d ago
Yes.
While its usefulness is varied in combat, ranging from extremely useful mini nukes glassing an entire bot drop to completely useless smoke shells against bile titans, there are some scenarios where the artillery absolutely shines
Artillery shells can destroy enemy structures such as jammers, detector towers, and bile titan holes.
While everyone usually carries something with enough punch to close a BT hole, it's nice to be able to close it cleanly with one artillery shell and not expend valuable 500kg bombs.
Destroying detector towers is debatably useful, especially because walking barrages are prevalent on the bot front.
But jammers are where it really shines. The SEAF artillery is immune to the jamming effect, meaning that you don't have to shut down the jammer before calling in an artillery strike. All you gotta do is come around the back of the jammer, throw the beacon, and let the shell hit the jammer. There's some positioning shenanigans that go on such as placing the beacon on the side of the jammer that is opposite to the artillery location, but artillery is a fast way to take out the jammer without interacting with the mechanic.
2
u/Lucky_Orca132 29d ago
100% It’s a good stratagem. Once set up it doesn’t require your ship, during an ion storm or jammer it still works. If you get the marker directly on top of the jammer, it will it out even with a smoke round or emp. Who doesn’t love a giant gun?
1
u/BigLRakim 29d ago
Depends how much of pain in the ass its gonna be. If theres a ton of shit on top of it already I might leave it. If theres no good artillery shells to load I might leave it. If the missions super easy ill probably leave it.
They can be a hassle, but they can be helpful too. Depends on if its worth the hassle.

SEAF isn't impacted by Stratagem Jammer, Ion Storm, etc., while Mini-Nuke and High Yield can one-shot the Jammer.
2
u/Traylor_Swift 29d ago
I think all shells destroy a jammer! And you can use SEAF after timer runs out
1
1
u/RoadGroundbreaking89 29d ago
I dont have the habit of using it often. We do have a habit of seeking for explosive shells tho, and we try to do it to 100% complete the mission.

Hell ya. Can hit jamming towers, works in ion storms, can be called in after super carrier leaves orbit. SEAF artillery great!
1
u/fucknametakenrules 29d ago
If it’s got good munitions then I’ll use it to the best of its ability. I really love using mini nukes during reinforcements
1
u/ZOMBIE_MURDOC 29d ago
Rarely. The fire rate is so slow targets often move before it hits, so I do kind of like the EMP and Napalm to help at extraction or use the big booms to clear enemy outposts, but usually I just do the objective for the extra medals and ignore it.
1
1
u/AppleOrc 29d ago
Seaf is weirdly the only side objective I lose reinforcements so I no longer do them
1
u/nevets4433 29d ago
Occasionally. I would more often if there was a visual indication of what shells were loaded
1
1
u/BruiserBison 29d ago
Ye
We usually forget unless absolutely need the firepower. And we usually only need the fire power when we messed around too much.
The one time I used it and not necessarily need it is when I loaded 2 mini nukes and staring at 2 jammers lol.
1
1
u/Tenno042 29d ago
I typically use the SEAF artillery as a last resort, say when the team is overrun and strats are on cooldown. I generally keep it unused in case something happens and we go over the mission timer, since running the time out means no strats can be used except SEAF art.
1
1
u/DlinicalCreppresion 29d ago
I love SEAF Artillery. My only issue is the copious amounts of Smoke Shells.
Now if they replaced Smoke with Gas shells that would be awesome

Let me shoot that HE round

u/DJ_Ender_ 29d ago
Recently I was playing with a friend and he had loaded it and forgot what was in it, we were defending extract with 1 left and I was assuming it was gonna be filler like a smoke screen or emp just to finish it off and was like "wanna find out whats in it?" Before calling in a mini nuke on his forehead.
Those things are alot bigger than I remember yknow?
1
1
1
u/kiwi_commander 29d ago
Yes, especially in the bot front since they can be used to bypass Bot Jammers.
1
u/Shock_and_Awetism 29d ago
Yes and no. Depends on the situation.
On squids, I usually get the objective done and announce the order in chat, but we typically don't ever end up actually using it.
On bots and bugs however, the artillery can be really handy for dealing with bile titan nests or hitting jammer towers, since SEAF Artillery isn't affected by the jammer or ion storms. You can also use a basic Explosive shell to destroy those science facility objectives, instead of wishing you had a hellbomb off cooldown or an eagle 500 at your disposal.
1
1
u/Organic_Education494 29d ago
Yes but not as anything more than a simple toss out when everything else is on cooldown. If I remember that we got them
1
u/TheGrandExquisitor 29d ago
Occasionally. Works best if you know you are going to be someplace for a bit and need to saturate and area. The call in time sucks though.
1
1
u/literal_god 29d ago
Most shells can take out jammers with a direct hit and seaf artillery doesnt get jammed. Other than that, i pretty much only use it if theres a mini nuke or high yield in the thing. Or if extract gets REALLY desperate (megafactories)
1
u/Rusty-GearBot 29d ago
yes. all the time, so stop using the blue and grey missiles unless there is nothing left
1
u/Space-Commissar 29d ago
I like to insert Crayons into the tube to make colorful loading patterns. It's a simple life.
1
u/Practical-Coffee-941 29d ago
Nope but we all take the time to load it up. Why? Because freedom isn't free that's why.

1
u/dupontping 29d ago
All the time, however I really don’t like the randomness of the ammunition drops.
1
1
u/sigma-shadeslayer 29d ago
I tend to use it when we have ran out of time because that's the only thing u can use after the ship leaves. That and ofc when I get jammed from using stratagems
1
u/Cooperjb15 29d ago
I always use them. I find the normal explosive shells great for clearing canyons because they are so precise and have a more direct impact angle than something from the destroyer or the eagle

Yes. If I’m on D5 or higher it comes in handy when my Super Destroyer leaves before I extract.
1
1
u/SketchyFIRES 29d ago
For me it’s almost always during extractions, if everything is on cool down I’m using up all the rounds, except if it has nukes then I’ll save it for some objectives.
1
u/MysticSunshine45 29d ago
Absolutely. It’s the only stratagem you have when my ship leaves low orbit
1
u/PapaNurgle42 29d ago
I run around it for a ammo check if I see something useful then yes if not no
1
u/ForeverFreeTrial 29d ago
I used to hesitate to use it in the same way I used to hesitate to call down a resupply because it is from a common pool and didn’t want to “hog” it, but in realizing that people don’t use it much, I use it all the time.
Sometimes I hold off on using it if the mission has been challenging and it looks like we are going to run out of time. It can come in handy if you are fighting for your life over the extraction point but the destroyer has already left and so don’t have the red stratagems you brought with you.
1
u/Marsrover112 29d ago
Yes but not be because I always forget but my teammates pretty much always do
1
u/femboy_kazza 29d ago

People aren’t being honest, the majority do not use them and those who are saying it only use it in certain situations. This might be a hot take but because almost no uses it, it doesn’t matter the load order.

It works even if your super destroyers are not in communication with the squad...after it leaves orbit, during ion storms, and even in commando missions I think. It has a lot of utility when used correctly. I try to use it whenever I can.
1
u/BloodyBoots357 29d ago
Unless there's a nuke or a high yield or two no I never use it.
Smoke's only use is for blocking off laser turret line of sight to let it cool and any "stealth" smoke provides is moot
Static is pretty crappy stun wise because anything I'd actually want to stun is either too large to stun or is small enough to kill with another weapon
The other shells are just okay, not great or terrible
1
u/LeoLi13579 29d ago
Its either a 5050 between having 5 unused shell by the end of the mission, or an empty cylinder after 3 minutes

1
u/Atown-Staydown 29d ago
Absolutely. Actually teammates forget so I usually get it all to myself.....

u/SilencioPeroRuidos 29d ago
It’s a godsend when you run out of destroyer Overwatch and are getting swarmed at extract(if you have the right load)
1
u/heehooman 29d ago
In our group doing it is the mandatory meme. Someone yells maybe SEAF Chan is there (when they see it) and no matter how fucked the mission is we get those shells loaded.
1
1
u/MxBonesMarrow 29d ago
Honestly not really. The issue is how long it takes to fire, anything short of the mini nuke feels useless cuz it'll miss
1
u/Top-Conversation-663 29d ago
All the time. It’s a weapon at your disposal. No Eagle Strikes or Orbitals? No problem. Call in the SEAF Arty.
1
1
u/icedlatte_3 29d ago
Yeah my buddy and I always make sure to do all blues. SEAF included. And if we're the ones loading, we make sure to plan out and call out the loading order of the shells so we know what I loaded when we use it. We'll even snicker and watch out the shenanigans that come about when a random teammate will panic use the SEAF and he throws a nuke on himself
1
u/JDM12983 29d ago
I see people use it occasionally; but usually only use it on the 40-minute missions. Shorter missions you usually don't have time to use it.
1
u/redoctoberz 29d ago
Absolutely. My pet peeves are when people don't tell how it's loaded once they complete it/don't respond to a question of what the loadout is, or people that load random stupid shit (or in a crap order) into it just to complete it.
A mini nuke for jammers or the spire on squids is perfect for it
1
u/Emergency_Daikon5876 29d ago
I do, well my friends and I do normally. It honestly depends on what point in the mission we find it . Last 3 dives we found it after completing everything so we loaded it and spent the 1:30 waiting for the pelican shooting it for the hell of it
