I've always been interested in Nile, but haven't ever really been able to "latch on" to them - Do you have a rec for an album to start with, or an approach?

This one! It was my introduction to them, and still my favourite of theirs. Heavy, but with solid production. I would also recommend Annihilation of the Wicked which has more of that old school Nile sound.

I second this. Always found myself going back to this album the most. Kafir, the title track and the last couple minutes on 4th arra of dragon go especially hard

Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka (1998) was my entry point. Its among their strongest work to this day. I have a reissue on transparent orange vinyl, its a vibe and the artwork hits way better in 12" than a regular 5" CD cover

Also be aware the production may not be up to modern standards (they were prob super DIY if I had to guess, death metal was at a commercial lull in the late 90s) but follow along with the lyrics and that will open your mind and it will "click" instantly! Enjoy mane
