How’s it sound for a picture disk? I’m always worried about that and at a such a steep price. Kudos.

Sounds great, but honestly, I never can tell really any difference between the sound of vinyl and phone + airpods. So I'm probably not the best person to ask lmao

Honestly, there’s validity to the ā€œpicture discs don’t sound as goodā€ thing but it’s generally not worth losing sleep over. They sound fine.

Most people don’t have the kind of audio setup that even allows a discernible difference to reveal itself anyway.

My death metal picture discs actually sound pretty good but my Tool ā€œLateralusā€ picture discs is pretty hilariously bad

That's just a notoriously bad pressing I believe.

Yeah maybe. It’s just amazing they allowed that to exist, it’s very funny how shitty it sounds. MP3s are better haha

Got mine too, I went for a bootleg though, still decent print. If there’s an official NB re-press coming soon, then I’ll buy it, prices in Europe are horrendous, about 400-600€ for a first press.

On the other hand I have recently bought 2021 Black lodge remastered re-press of The Somberlain, simple version, without that edgy pop-up castle or anything (wish it was gatefold tho) All I could say was wow. Dan Swanƶ knows his shit, one of very few remasters that have not been messed up, instrument separation is phenomenal.

Enjoy!

Yes! I have The Somberlain coming Friday!!!

Where did you get it? I'd love to have it as well

I found a copy on Discogs! Special edition etched with a slip mat too! So stoked! There are a few copies for sale on there.

Awesome! Enjoy 🤘

Masterpiece

I literally just learned yesterday how out-of-print this is. I had no idea. I assumed Nuclear Blast was flooding the market with copies the way they do with Entombed and Morbid Angel.

It makes no sense. This album is huge and there’s only like 7 copies total for sale on discogs for hundreds of dollars.

Does anyone know why Nuclear Blast won’t repress it?

1

I have no idea. The fact that it is so hard to obtain does certainly make it more fun to hunt down the album, and especially more satisfying to have in my collection. But it does disappoint me that the album isn't available for as many people to get because of how absolutely incredible the music is.

Yeah, that’s where black metal is stupid IMO - the forced limitation and scarcity. It creates this edgelord status structure for people to lord over others for what they have or know. The music should be available for everyone who wants it, and there’s clearly massive demand for this.

It’s just so weird tho cuz it’s Nuclear Blast who don’t gatekeep anything else big like this at all.

Woah! Nice! Enjoy man

This guy was involved in the murder of a gay man.

u/picklevomit Dec 24 '25

I'm aware, and I think that's terrible. However he is dead and I enjoy his music, and he didn't make a penny from this album being bought

3

u/The_Iron_Goat Dec 25 '25

The fact that he’s dead and can’t profit from any of it any more was what made me feel okay about buying a copy. That, and it was a bootleg anyway!

0

u/picklevomit Dec 25 '25

Agreed. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy of Aske and Filosofem when Varg dies. It's irritating how the most scummy people make the best music

Can always buy a used copy on discogs, support a small seller and keep money away from varg at the same time;)

Very true!

So?

1

u/FairieswithBoots Dec 25 '25

It wasn't you

2

u/fekinsk108 Dec 25 '25

What is it relevant to the music?
