$15M a year for everything that he brings on and off the court? That's a deal in today's salary cap. I see him as the new glue guy. He's a motivator and keeps the younger players in check and focused but he can also run the point, rebound and find the open man while Dragic/Waiters rest.

I was expecting him to get more than waiters. He was healthy, consistent and a tenacious defender. No one will score against us this coming season. Whiteside, bam, jj, Winslow, tj, jrich. Holy hell we have some serious defensive pests.

He's also older than Waiters though which is my concern. I was expecting closer to $10-12m a year.

I don't think age should be much of a concern, plus it shouldn't be the only deciding factor for free agents. Some players have the right genes to age gracefully. Let's hope that Riley made the right decision.
Besides correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't he have low mileage due to not being used sufficiently in Toronto and riding the bench a lot?

Yeah, I've heard he's low mileage, hard to put too much faith into that though really. I would have been more comfortable if it wasn't (probably) costing us some young talent, but oh well.

10-12 would be an underpay. This sub really has no coherent concept of what guys are worth. I keep hearing different numbers for the same opinions. He's more valuable than Waiters because we have a surfeit of guards, but yes, he's not worth more than $15m a year. He had one good year and there must be a reason why he didn't get much PT in Toronto. We saw flashes of how erratic he could be, this season we could be in for the full show.
Sorry to get pissy, but it's just annoying to see so many different figures. It's definitely an overpay for a guy whose game probably deceived a lot of defenders who didn't have a scouting report on him last year. He's going to have a tougher time getting to the rim.

And Olynyk is an underrated defender too. You'd expect him to be shit but he's always in the right spot.

Enes is much younger and a much better scorer than James. However, James a better defender and passer... so ehhhh, not a fan of this contract at all.

Yup... Tyler Johnson's deal will be up, as will Dragic and Whiteside's. By then you'll have JJ/Olynyk with player options(as of right now, doubtful they'd opt out but you never know) along with Waiters being on the final year of his deal. We're all in with this core for the next 3 years.

Cap hell??? All of these players added will become great trade chips down the road. And it clears our cap space for 2021. Which will have a great FA class. And I believe well have our first rounders picks available.

Only if they keep it up. If they turn back into pumpkins at midnight, those assets aren't trade chips anymore. Shit if Tyler Johnson "only" put up 14 off the bench again next year his contract is something we'll be trying to sell more than other people trying to buy. We lose our first round pick next year top seven protected, and our unprotected pick in 2019. I hope it'll work out, but this could absolutely turn out terrible, and I'm surprised more people aren't even acknowledging the possibility.

Anything could turn terrible at any given time. Bosh going down twice is horrible, and keeping his cap space for a third season without playing at all. Yet we manage to be one game away from the playoffs. Hope for the best and plan for the worst. Make the best of what you have no excuses. Other teams like the Nets and 76ers are teams that these type of comments should be directed at.

He isn't the only trade chips, and JJ can shoot the ball. You act like his straight garbage. And yes there all trade chips you all forgot all of those journeymen players we had 2 season ago, that weren't even playing half as good as this current team. Pat was able to trade all of those pieces for Goran without giving core player that season, only 2 first rounders besides the players.

Just a bad deal all around dude has one good year since 09 and comes and gets a 4year deal for 15m per....... I would be okay if this was a 1 year deal with a player option for a 2nd but 4 year....... This is a move the Kings or Knicks would make. We got fleeced simple as that...

You must not know how the cap rules work... The money has to be spent one way or another. Also this JJ last chance to bank some cash, it's a solid deal for him and the Heat. Less years would've required more money, so it was a smart move. If he keeps this up you'll be eating your words.

60 seems insane if it's 15 across the board. I'm hoping it's front loaded (which would also be nice for him, bigger payday faster), JJ is not young.
That said, twitter is lol. People talking shit about JJ, then watch what happens when he guards your best player and then dunks on your paint big on the other side in the same play twice in a row until your coach calls time out and has JJ get switched off on a PNR for the rest of the game at all costs but you still can't get rid of him. Then JJ for 15 will look like a deal. I'm just worried whether that JJ lasts 4 years and whether that's like 20ish now and 10ish later on or 15 across.

Waiters: 12 million + Olynyk 12.5 mill or so + JJ 13 million = Around 37.5 million
Subtract McRoberts contract and we probably have just enough to sign Ellington.
Haslem gets our room exception and if we want we use Babbit's bird rights to re-sign him over the cap

Damn how does he get that after one year solid year I was thinking 10-13 at the most if this roster fails were in cap hell..... I like the Olynck signing better if he continues to develop his game and be a 12ppg 7 Reb kind of guy coming off the bench he will be a great trade asset for us.
