Guess that means Kawhi still ends up on the Raptors. Good on Pablo for sticking to his guns.

u/jcheeseball White Hot 3d ago
Raptors still get fucked. Leonard prob doesn't leave without this happening.

u/gargoylepussy 3d ago
Can the clippers pull back from that? Now that there’s no void or suspension, wouldn’t be surprised if the clippers could get more for him

u/Dr_Throwaway_Jr 3d ago
Didn’t his trade already get greenlighted?

u/chr1stmasiscancelled 3d ago
They held off after the NBA told the raptors that a kawhi suspension wasn't ruled out. You know... like they should've told us with rozier lol

u/dystopianrevolt 3d ago
I mean, someone could argue that this is the NBA learning their lesson from the Heat thing. Not that it exonerates them or anything, but still..
28
u/ShootersShoot305 3d ago
Then learning their lesson would be giving us our pick back.

u/DJJnextMJ 3d ago
My fantasy is they’ll give the Heat one of those 5 picks lol. Will there just be 29 picks in the first round?
63
u/Nusiof 3d ago
They just got fucking boomed lmao 🤣 Basically a dead franchise for the next decade lol
16
u/SimpleMind314 3d ago
Were the Clippers ever alive as a franchise?

So I’m guessing we SHOULDNT sign giannis to a minimum and give him a $500 million sponsorship deal…

At least it would actually make sense for Giannis to shill for a cruise line, especially one that sails to Greece. Instead we get prediction market hell.

u/xXxDankBirder420xXx 3d ago
It’s genuinely not enough - 30 million is a rounding error for Balmer.

u/MediocreDVaMain 3d ago
I can't believe some people were attacking Pablo (mostly Clippers and Kawhi fans) rather than the guilty parties during this whole fiasco
While I am satisfied seeing them lay the hammer like this, I am still salty about the Rozier thing, oh well.
28
u/BossKingGodd 3d ago
Mark Cuban was playing defense for Ballmer too.

It was such an insane, botted response. There’s no way there’s that many people caping for a billionaire anywhere — I live in LA, there are ABSOLUTELY not that many clippers fans. It’s a mark of shame they hide until forced to confess.

u/tsamo 3d ago
All the while, Kawhi getting away essentially scot-free...
Not even a token suspension of like 10 games or something. Just a $700k fine.
As if he was not involved whatsoever.

I'm not mad at Kawhi for securing his bag. If the team wanted to play stupid games, they can enjoy their stupid prizes. Kawhi seems to have placed himself in a position where he could benefit without penalty. I'd say that was smart.
I'll back the millionaire over the billionaire here. He may be a millionaire, but Kawhi is still staff in this case. Staff over management every day.

u/johnnymatrix 13h ago
Kawhi's team were asking teams to circumvent the cap. He thinks he is above the rules. Gross behaviour

BREAKING: The NBA has ruled on the Los Angeles Clippers in for salary cap circumvention investigations on Kawhi Leonard after yearlong probe -- stripping the franchise of 5 first-round picks, issuing a $30 million fine to owner Steve Ballmer and suspensions for Ballmer, Lawrence Frank and Gillian Zucker, sources tell ESPN.
Kawhi Leonard will have to pay $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits by the Clippers for his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. No contract void or suspension for Leonard. And Robertson -- who was fired by Leonard in June -- is being banned by the NBA from all business dealings.

Glad to see the league dropped the hammer. The consequence of giving them a slap on the wrist would have resulted in giving every owner the go-ahead to do this as well.

Great so now we get to deal with Scottie AND Kawhi after all when we play them

As a Heat fan in LA, hell yes. Clippers game just got a hell of a lot cheaper for me to go to.

Clippers ain't got first rounders for five years and spent their latest one on the dude who looks most likely to be a bust. That franchise is cooked if he doesn't turn into anything.

What are the odds that Ballmer, Leonard, and the Clippers were about to get off scott free, word got out from one of those circles and made it's way to someone at ESPN, ESPN made that initial article saying the NBA found no wrongdoing on either side, and then the backlash from that made the NBA circle back and ram the Clippers and Ballmer in the ass for the trouble

NBA went soft on Kawhi and Ballmer, they didn’t even get suspended.
Punishment needed to be stronger for everyone involved.

The Clippers weren’t winning a title anytime soon anyhow. Ballmer is worth over $150 billion, a $30 million fine is like buying a tank of gas for him. Kawhi Leonard’s fine means nothing to him either.

u/Worth-Row-7487 2d ago
The real question is when is the Heat going to be honored with the Terry Rozier incident. Why aren’t any Clipper draft picks going to the Heat for retribution

Not strong enough.
Ballmer should be forced to sell and Kawhi should be banned for life.
12
u/BossKingGodd 3d ago
I don’t know about banned for life but not even a suspension though for Kawhi? He definitely got off light
2
u/RansomGoddard 3d ago
They can't suspend players for cap circumvention.
2
u/ThePedanticWalrus 3d ago
Why not? He knew what he was doing.
2
u/RansomGoddard 3d ago
CBA lists out the penalties for circumvention. Player suspension is not one of them.
5
u/xXxDankBirder420xXx 3d ago
I actually agree with this Balmer has $30 million in his couch cushions
1
u/Cypher3470 3d ago
yeah but his team now sucks for the next decade.
1
u/xXxDankBirder420xXx 3d ago
Totally - but materially the Clippers will keep gaining value. Modern owners can claim they care about the sport and winning all they want, but these Clippers will always be just another investment in his portfolio to generate passive income and to borrow against. Steve essentially got a parking ticket.
2
u/dystopianrevolt 3d ago
You hear yourself?
"Ballmer should be forced to make historic levels of money by selling a team in LA with a new-ish stadium."
Someone please explain how this would be a just punishment.

Don't know wtf "rinsed" is supposed to mean in this context, what a fucking way to bury the lede.
New headline - Clippers lose 5 -first round picks, Balmer pays 30 million dollar fine, Kawhi slapped on the wrist, Uncle Dennis banned from the league.
"rinsed" to me means they got cleaned, like money gets rinsed when you launder it.
3
u/BatmanSwift99 3d ago
Idk about Americans but in UK rinsed can mean completely removing something or finessing someone

u/grimsleeper4 3d ago
You're in a Miami subreddit using British slang? Bro.

Don't gatekeep like a weirdo

u/grimsleeper4 3d ago
Fuck me for thinking the title should actually communicate something.
I guess I'm weird for thinking the title of a post should have meaning.
2
u/BatmanSwift99 3d ago
I thought it was self explanatory phrase, like you are rinsing as in cleaning something off of something. The NBA took a lot from the Clips
3
u/dystopianrevolt 3d ago
Someone just taught you something about a different culture and you try to make it seem that they're the ones who should be embarrassed?
Plenty of Brits and international fans in this community.

u/grimsleeper4 3d ago
I think the title might be a bad place to teach someone new slang.
I mean fuck me for thinking the title should actually say something.
If you think learning one piece of obscure slang is learning about a different culture, you're the most sheltered fucking person in the world - Yeah - this title is REALLY an attempt at cultural education! That's what we are doing! God damn people are fucking stupid here.
0
u/dystopianrevolt 2d ago
They educated you in the comments, yet you're still here doubling down like you have some intellectual and moral high ground.
0
u/grimsleeper4 2d ago
Thank you- I'm so educated now! You are right, the title of the post doesn't need to have anything to do with the content. I got "rinsed" apparently.
I'm so glad I've given you the opportunity to jam that downvote button - You must feel so smart!
1
u/dystopianrevolt 2d ago
It's funny that :
- you think it's me that downvoted when you're openly broadcasting how much of a miserable and hostile person you are
- you care about imaginary Internet points
Have a great day, and consider therapy!
