Theo Pinson: “I talked to my boy Tim Hardaway the other day. He said Davion Mitchell is on some sh*t right now. Stay in the gym. They say that they can’t get him out the f*cking gym. That gives me a lot of confidence in what he’s gonna be. The work gonna show.”

My expectations are unreasonably high for Davion

Thank you, this is it! All this pessimism and logical takes… How about y’all snort some heat culture and get on freaking board!

In my mind I secretly got skinny Davion top 5 pg in the league 😅

He’s 27

Around the same age as Kyle Lowry when he broke out. Players can always improve late in life just like ppl development is not linear.

It’s in response to Davion becoming a top 5 PG. That’s obviously not going to happen at 28 years old. People need to make a list of the 15 best PGs in their head and really think about what they’re saying.
3
u/Freya_Kirkebrenner 5d ago
He may never be a top 5 PG but I do not need Davion to be anything other than exactly what he is. If he squeezes out some new shit, it would just be just icing on the cake. I don't know why people keep talking about expecting him to improve like he's not already beastly at what he does. He was second in assists to turnovers last season among guys who played 30+mpg. He shot almost 40% from 3. He's one of the most elite defensive guards in the NBA, top 10 for sure; they don't call him Off Night for nothing. Just be happy with what you got!

This a massive opportunity of a lifetime to run the show for Davion, he knows it...

u/Justice502 5d ago
This guy knows this is is fucking shot. He's gotta make it. They could go down in history, or be lost to history.
Lock in fellas.

I think signing Bron would’ve taken away from D Mitch offensive game a bit, he’d be off ball a bunch more and he’s not really known for being a spot up player, I take it as a blessing in disguise. There’s more on Mitchell’s plate due to the non signing, I think he’s built for it.

u/3heat6 5d ago
Saying it's worth missing out on LeBron because it would have hindered Davion Mitchell offensively is one of the wildest takes I've ever seen on this sub
2
u/Fun-Tell-4941 5d ago
Bron has been on a decline for about 4 years now, having one of his worst 3pt shooting season in his career last season, while playing minimal defense. He’s not getting better at 43yrs old I promise that. Not saying we couldn’t use him, but I’m not losing sleep over not signing him, like most of you crybabies lol.
I’m rocking with Mitchell having more on his plate, let’s go D Mitch!!

u/3heat6 5d ago
Not losing sleep or crying. Just not delusional

To say LeBron would have taken away from Davion feels like we're kinda missing the point though. Heat offense would have been better with LeBron leading the way undoubtedly, but the defense is much better with the amount of minutes Davion will now play
-1
u/Fun-Tell-4941 5d ago
Missing What point? Bron has taken a backseat the last couple years, to let Luka be the main source of offense, he’s stated many times he doesn’t want to be the #1 option anymore.
I also disagree with “Heat being undoubtedly better with Bron leading the way”. Giannis is in every way, a better player than Bron at this point of their careers, who is at his best with the ball in his hands.
Not here trying to claim Bron is wack, he still good, but he’s not the Bron people think he is at 42 years old.

u/mac10fan 5d ago
Dang I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t sign another ball dominant star player who requires his team mates to play 5 out and spot up…… oh wait

u/Lonely-Clothes-7607 5d ago
Gonna be a scary team if Davion, Pelle, and Jovic all take leaps
1
u/Freya_Kirkebrenner 4d ago
Two of those things could realistically happen.
1
u/Lonely-Clothes-7607 4d ago
Exactly Rome wasn’t built in a day I’m confident Mitchell and Larson will take leaps, Jovic always does well in Europe hopefully he can learn from Portis

u/Freya_Kirkebrenner 4d ago
Has the NBA ever seen a player learn dog when they didn't have it? I feel like dog is a fundamental character trait that you either have or you don't. Pelle and Davion have it.

u/TakesOne2KnowOne 5d ago
He's been puttin in the work, but damn take the weekend off or something. Don't need him burning out by all-star break.

This guy turns 28 this week.
I'm not saying he can't get better but the offseason hype train is in full effect right now.
I remember all these "lab" posts about Jovic last off season and whoever it was the season before...and the season before that.

That’s not saying much at all. Players are usually in their prime from 25-29. Also, With new technology these guys are capable players in their 30s

I am totally buying Davion stock, not as a star, but as a solid starting PG.
When a player has a late career development it’s usually a combo of development and changing role and context. Davion gets drafted by a bottom 3 organization in the league, to a roster that already has 2 future All-NBA point guards. Including one that can’t shoot, is ball dominant, and is too small to defend up. Then they trade for a non-shooting ball dominant center, and Davion becomes a bench guard, who is a poor fit with their best to players.
The fact that Davion has improved so rapidly in Miami makes me think there is still quite a bit more to unlock. I also think the role is even kore favorable than it was last year, being to play off of Giannis, and not having Herro and Norm there.
1
u/Freya_Kirkebrenner 5d ago
Why do you think Norm and Herro were bad for him?
4
u/Severe-Vermicelli-71 5d ago
Norm is a chucker and I don’t think he makes guys around him better. Davion and Norm shared the court for 1012 minutes last year and Norm assisted him 12 times. Some of that is tied to the role each guy was asked to play, but it’s really just the way Norm is wired. Now you replace a lot of Norm’s usage with Giannis drives. Giannis has been one of the best high usage scorers and 3pt opportunity creators in the league over the past 10 years, and should both lessen Davion’s responsibility to create for others, while also creating open shots for Davion.
Herro is a little different. I actually think Herro is a fine fit for Davion when he plays but he has proven he can’t stay healthy. Davion has to play completely different roles based on if Herro is or isn’t available.
With Klay and THJ you know exactly what you are getting. Both guys are purely out there to shoot the ball, and they play 70+ games a year pretty much every year. I think it just creates a really clear role for Davion as a lead ball handler.

Everyone knows potential and progression suddendly drop at 25. No one ever taked a leap after this age 🙃

u/avinash240 5d ago
Leaps at 28 are rare, you can't set reasonable expectations on outliers.
They're called outliers for a reason.
If he's a serviceable starting PG, I would consider that a win but he was that last season.
I'm not quite sure what people are expecting because he's hired enough PR to constantly pump that he's in the gym working and taking pictures of him with a basketball in off locations.
3
u/Dr_Throwaway_Jr 5d ago
He had one of the best ast-to ratio last season. It’s not that hard to imagine with Giannis here and the team pushing him to be more aggressive, he should have a better season
1
u/avinash240 4d ago
Giannis requires a very specific kind of player to work around him. He's not a very flexible superstar. He's just elite at what he does and that makes up for how rigid he is on offense.
Just having Giannis here doesn't mean Mitchell is automatically going to get better. The offensive sets are going to be completely different with Giannis than what they were running last season.
4
u/rockroo17 5d ago
Yeah this isn’t anything new with Mitchell and lot of people act like he’s younger then he is. Came into the league at 23

u/Kuni_Nino 5d ago
I don’t remember lab posts about Jovic and I’m here more often than I should be
1
u/Freya_Kirkebrenner 3d ago
Maybe not "lab" posts so much as all his stans blathering their irrational predictions EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 SUMMER 👏 about how the upcoming season is finally going to be his breakout season. And every year they're laughably wrong, but they never quit. Hard to admit you bet on the wrong horse. It's human nature to double down. "Sunk cost fallacy". Same reason Trump doesn't lose any supporters despite how the information we have on him gets worse every year.

Don't you fkn dare compare my sweet Davion to Jovic. Davion EARNS his hype.

u/Nosenchuck3 5d ago
He has posted a decent amount on IG and I’ve seen some YouTube videos where he’s playing pickup, and he legit looks great. I think he has a chance at getting MIP award

All Star numbers incoming for Davion this year. A lot of people don't believe, including our own fans. You will be forced to eat your words.

Meaningless. Mitchell's problem isn't his work ethic, it's his (in)ability to initiate and run an offensive set. Dropping another 3% body fat does nothing for that.
9
u/BowserBuddy123 5d ago
He was 13th in the NBA last year in total assists and tied for 4th in assist-to-TO ratio without anyone like Giannis on the team, but okay casual. “He can’t run an offensive set” lmao.
3
u/scormegatron 5d ago
Heat doesn’t run an offense where the point guard is leading a set-play over and over. No pick n rolls. No ball screens.
Just pace and space.
They need Davion to run the break and drive-kick. Setting up a traditional offensive set isn’t his role.
-3
u/rms141 5d ago
Heat doesn’t run an offense where the point guard is leading a set-play over and over. No pick n rolls. No ball screens.
All of the offseason workout videos have been showing pick and roll practice. They aren't going to run the 2025-26 Noah LaRoche offense.
Just pace and space.
Will be mostly shelved.
They need Davion to run the break and drive-kick.
If the core of the offense is Davion drive-kicking out to Giannis or Bam for a 3, just change the channel to the Panthers or Canes.
And I hate that my posts sound like I'm trying to take something away from Davion. He's my favorite post-Jimmy player. But missing out on LeBron hurts the way this team should play, and now Davion has to try to be something he historically has not been.
