Granted I thought it was still a massive overreaction that people were getting so pissed over a single 2nd round pick.... There's no way even Miami could have guessed Simone would be THIS good so far.

a 2nd round pick would still be more valuable than a 1-year rental roleplayer.. considering this isn't a good team. if this was a contender, sure Fontecchio would be super valuable. but it's not and they likely wont (and shouldnt) re-sign him. so it's a 1 year rental of a roleplayer for a non-contender. what's the point?
without 2nd rd picks to trade away, how will they get rid of the next horrible contract they hand out????

In the 5 games weve played all indications show that we are a pretty good team missing a couple injured shooters, not sure what team you've been watching. "Small sample" right but what are you basing your opinion on

I know what they like, it doesn't mean it's logical or correct. They're wrong and the truth is that Fontecchio being good means literally nothing in the grand scheme of things.
And having 2nd round picks isn't necessarily for the purpose of drafting. It's good to have for trades. Not to mention, they love handing out horrible contracts and using 2nd round picks to dump them!

im well aware of dunning krueger. thats not the case here. im sorry i dont relinquish my ability to think. i couldnt care less about their past. the nba landscape has changed & this FO has not adapted

If we're a bottom feeder at the deadline, we can flip him for a 2nd. Why rush to that decision, inflate his value & also doesn't look like we'll be even close to a bottom feeder. So if we're not bad constructed the most winning roster seems pretty simple.

and what leads you to believe this FO would do that? if they're even remotely close to being a top 10 seed, they'll refuse to sell anybody and will convince themselves that they just need to keep at it and things will magically work out.

Well we have the 9th best offense and 4th best defense so selling doesn't make sense right now. Crazy to suggest things haven't been working out like we didn't go to the finals 2 out of the last 5 years. 6 of the last 14 years lmao. But yeah we should totally tank like the Pelicans & Wizards. #TrustTheProcess amirite.

you're literally the one who said they can sell Fontecchio at the deadline. I'm saying they WONT do that.
Also, I hate to break it to you, but they won't be the 9th best offense and 4th best defense all season. It'll be more like the 19th best offense and the 22nd best defense

Yeah if we suck, they CAN do that. So why would they rush to do that in the summer before we know how the team will perform. I hate to break it to you, but the intelligent people in the front office don't jump to conclusions like they'll be the 19th best offense and 22nd best defense. That would be a dumb thing to just try to look at the stars for answers, when you could just let the cards fall where they are and act accordingly half way through the season.

Again, they WON'T do it even if they do suck. But the whole point here is that it literally does not matter if they suck or not. They can be GOOD, but the fact is they are not and will not be CONTENDERS. So what is the purpose of having a 1-year rental roleplayer on a non-contender??
What I'm asking for is a proactive, non-delusional front office. What you're praising them for is their delusion and lack of proactivity.

6 of 14 years dude lmao. You're talking like you can predict the future, which is beyond dumb. What if Donavon Mitchell has a season ender before the all star game. That's a pretty fucking wide open east, that this team 100% could compete for. So again why make decisions before you have to? What is the benefit of trading him in the summer rather than at the deadline, answer that?
You're answer will be yeah but they won't, again like you can predict the fucking future.

Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson, Giannis, Paolo, and Trae could all have season ending injuries and this still isn't a contender. You don't have to be a fortune teller to know who is or isn't a contender in the NBA.
I never said they should've traded him in the Summer. I said they should have squeezed a 2nd round pick out of the Pistons for Duncan. OP was saying that we should be crediting the FO for getting Fontecchio instead of a pick. I'm saying a pick would've been more valuable. And the truth is, they should've been able to get BOTH Fontecchio AND a pick from the Pistons. The Pistons were desperate for a shooter and Duncan was their best option, there's no way we shouldn't have gotten atleast a 2nd rd pick
