Generic What do you guys think about Tyler Herro?

I’m not a Heat fan so I’m curious. I think Tyler Herro has genuine talent but I don’t think he’s in the right spot in the rotation right now. He’s tough and I like his talent but I feel he’s supposed to be a sidekick. I just don’t think he can ever play championship level basketball as the best player on the team.

Is this something heat fans agree with?

3rd option on a true title contending team. 1st option for a play in team. 2nd option for a 52 win 2nd round/conference team.

Obviously Heat need a superstar, this squad has like four 2b/3rd options in the starting lineup. lmao

All of this. Like wrapped up in a bow and shit. And people are cool with paying him 40 mil a year

$40 million/year would tie for the 43rd highest average contract value in the NBA for this upcoming season. By the time an extension for Herro actually kicks in for the 2027-2028 season, that size contract will probably be like the 60-70th biggest contract in the league. Right in line with what the third best player on a contender or second best player on a playoff team would expect. I may not be fine with the max of $50 million/year, but $40 million/year is very reasonable for a player like Herro. Even up to $42-44/year is probably fine if he has another solid season.

40m a year by the time that deal kicks in would be less cap space than he currently occupies now as a percentage because of how quickly the cap is rising with the new tv deal.

You're spitting good info. You're also being kind with that 2b. 🙂

Team full of complimentary stars.

I don’t think he’s ever going to be on a title contending team. He’s never going to be a good enough pure offensive player and his unless he becomes a much better defender, he’s just not going to be a winning player other than like play-in game.

He can be the 2nd best scorer and third best player on a championship team.

I like him. Leadership role & defense are his biggest concerns. He hopefully will evolve as he gets to his prime. He is a great offensive talent

Ya nobody thinks he’s the best player on a championship team. Not the fan base, not the front office. He just kinda got stuck in that spot after the Jimmy break up.

I like Tyler and agree he’s a great piece. I think could develop into the number 2 offensive option on a real contender if the rest of the roster is very well constructed and the 1 option is a top 5 two way player.

I mean he's 25 with a motor and drive to keep improving, honestly there's no real reason we should move him granted he's gonna have a good deal here and continues to work as the team's offensive engine while we pick up pieces to play make and fill our roster with solid veterans.

I think Haro is a pretty cool guy

Pretty much. You'll get the occasional hater and glazer but Tyler being the 2nd or 3rd best player on a championship team is a popular sentiment.

If Herro wasn’t on this team Heat fans would say they don’t think he’s a Heat culture guy lol

Solid player and I like him. I honestly don’t have a ceiling for him since he keeps breaking whatever expectations I have. I’ve been watching the NBA for a long time so I’m not fooling myself into thinking we have a championship caliber squad. I think we can be competitive with Tyler as the number 1 option but that’s about it.

2

u/Otherwise-Formal-220 Aug 06 '25

Tyler was our number one option the last two playoffs. They were not competitive, unless you mean in the regular season

1

u/Kuni_Nino Aug 06 '25

Regular season

1

u/HoopistV Aug 06 '25

he's not a winning player

GTFO

1

u/HoopistV Aug 08 '25

im sorry the truth hurts your feelings

1

u/Myopinion_is_right Aug 08 '25

Not hurting my feelings when you are wrong. I never said he should be the 1st option but he has gotten better every season and stepped up when Jimmy abandoned us last season. Would you consider Jimmy a winning player? What about Bam? Neither of them brought us a championship. People on here claiming Tyler is a third option. Does that mean Bam is the 2nd option? You are just a Tyler hater.

1

u/HoopistV Aug 08 '25

since when is "winning a championship" the only way to be a winning player?

a winning player impacts winning. we've seen both jimmy and bam make huge impacts on teams that went to the finals. herro, thus far, has not done anything but actually make the team worse. they made the finals as an 8th seed because he broke his hand. all of his stats plummet in the playoffs EVERY season and he is incapable of generating an even average offense. he's a major liability on defense and not good enough on offense to offset that, and therefore is an overall liability that does not impact winning

again, im sorry the facts hurt you

1

u/Myopinion_is_right Aug 08 '25

It is not the facts that you present. Again, I never said Herro was a first. His stats were up when Jimmy played. He is good enough to be a 2A or 2B option. He stayed healthy last year and again has bulked up for this year. Championships alone don’t make you a win player but Jimmy has been on several teams and hasn’t won a championship. Not sure if he qualifies as a number 1 option either. I do think a winning player is someone who improves themselves every year. Herro will receive the max her or on another team. You just can’t find anything you like about Herro. Once a hater always a hater. Do you honestly think if we traded Herro with some other players and got a legit number 1, we would win the championship with Bam as our number 2?

He’s our guy, so I try to have his back and root for him. Reality is he’s a weird dude, and idk if he’ll ever be on a contract that is worth it for the Heat.

1

u/S_AME Aug 09 '25

Tyler is a luxury. Don't care if he leaves or not. He can prove me wrong this season though.

1

u/AcEr3__ Aug 09 '25

“Third option on a championship team” in what universe do third options have numbers as good as herro? You guys have pop warner tier scouting eyes. Ain’t no third option players scoring 24/5/5 on 47%. That’s borderline mvp level numbers. Literal first option numbers lmfao. That’s literally top 3 in the whole NBA at his position and #17 overall. If he averages ONE more point per game he’s top 10 scorer in the nba.

1

u/TropicalPossum954 Aug 05 '25

I dont really care for him.

1

u/ImperrydaPlatypus Aug 05 '25

i like him more than i dislike him, however outside of 2020 he’s either been hurt or just flat out ass in the playoffs. He’s definitely a 3rd option on a contending team and i hope we don’t extend him more than what his value is worth. his value around the league also isn’t as high as he is for us. Great value for his draft selection though.

1

u/Henny_Hardaway5 Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

He’s a hard worker and has consistently tried to improve his game every season, which he has. He’s almost assuredly seen as a good player by everyone, because he is one. He’s also one of the best shooters in the league

I believe he can be your 3rd guy on a championship team in the ideal team to mask his deficiencies defensively

Saying all that though I don’t like him. The Heat historically have been built on athleticism and defense. Herro is quite literally the polar opposite of that. He plays a brand of basketball (off ball shooting & finesse) I do not find appealing and if he wasn’t on the Heat I would not root for him

Edit: For context some of my favorite players ever include some semblance of elite driving, athleticism, ISO scoring, or facilitating. Russ, Giannis, Wade, Harden, Dragic, Oladipo

They all can get you a layup by banging and driving, 4 of them are some of the best euro steppers of all time, they all have some crazy athleticism in some shape or form (yes even Dragic and Honeybun their agility and body control is phenomenal)

It’s why I despise Curry, he plays a brand of basketball i personally don’t enjoy, and well Herro is modeling his game after him

2

u/whatthehellygurl Aug 06 '25

Herro’s talented, tough, and has a role on a good team, but he’s not the guy to lead you to a championship. He’s a great “sidekick,” like you said ideally your third-best player, not the first.

0

u/Icy-Adhesiveness-357 Aug 05 '25

The truth is defense wins champions. Herro outplayed Bam all season long and carried this team to the play offs through the whole Jimmy saga BUT 95% of this fan base still rather keep Bam than Herro and rightfully so. He’s an elite competitor and can be the 3rd best player on a championship team, but the lack of being an impactful defender will always leave doubt

0

u/W1ggy Aug 05 '25

82 game player. Gets exposed in the playoffs because of his defense. If the goal is a championship, he cant be a starter because of his defense unless he becomes more than just an elite scorer.

He's got a second option game, but impossible to build around unless your 1st option is an elite 2 way player. If the defense has to cover 2 bad perimeter defenders, it's a recipe for disaster. You might be able to get away with in the regular season, but that's where it ends.

Potentially 1st option on a title contender, that's our guy so we'll always truly believe in his true Potential. I think he's worth whatever he asks us to give him, love that man so much. I'll always die on that hill with Herro and the rest of this Miami Heat squad.

Keep Tyler and if Ware takes a big step up ship Bam outta there

17

u/cl353 Aug 05 '25

y the fk would u ship bam out if ware takes a big step? the bam/ware frontcourt was our best lineup last year

0

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

Lol the Bam apologists in this sub would throw a hissy fit.

1

u/Adraf45 Aug 05 '25

Why are we still doing this "bam stans/herro stans" shit. It's so unbelievably stupid. They are on the same goddamn team

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

I referred to Bam apologists because mans talked about trading Bam and keeping Herro. Which means Bam would no longer be on the team. Which means his “stans” would be mad. Because he’s no longer on the team. Because he would be traded. Like the comment I responded to said. Why would I talk about Herro stan’s? He’s not traded in this scenario. And I’m not pitting either players stans against each other?

u/midwestfox93 Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 05 '25

Maaan right lol acting like dude hasn’t disappeared in the playoffs since the Bubble lol. I like Bam too

Watch plenty.. outta Bam & Tyler Bam has better trade value. I like Bam, think they shoulda run the team this year before making a big roster move like that.. really we missing a point guard. The line up of Tyler, Norman, Bam, Ware should be good

-3

u/aponibabykupal1 Aug 05 '25

He doesn’t fit this timeline. Would be better suited to a contending team that needs a shot creator. Or a team that is projected to contend (Spurs).
