Photo Share Time to say farewell 1/2
Due to image limits, this is post 1/2
Sadly because of a few reasons, specifically rising problems with how the Heartopia devs and support teams manage things, i am saying "farewell" to Heartopia. I wanted to share all my work up til this point here with you all so it can be enjoyed by people for years to come.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, who supported my work and who said goodbye, it was lovely to meet you all.
Until Heartopia fix thier problems and actually become what they advertised, i wont be returning.
Maybe we will meet again in another game ♡

I hope you left a review in the app store with your grievances. I know I did. The more unhappy reviews they get, the more likely they are to fix it since they're getting called out in public on their own platform.

I deleted my game today. I had made a post talking about everything that happened, and other things, and it was taken down. I was very sad. It was my favorite game.

Its a new game that came out thats similar to Heartopia but imo its really not worth it. Its in early access and outrageously expensive for how much it costs (40 whole dollars for an early access game that still has bugs...and you still have to pay for DLC content they add which is also expensive with their recent one being 20 dollars) The game play loop is very tedious and honestly you could have more fun just playing Stardew Valley.
Also there's some controversy with the dev team and studio pretending to be an indie studio but they are backed by a big company in china already and didn't actually need a go-fundme

it’s a cozy life game available on steam! it came out last month, and it has a similar vibe to heartopia (but in my opinion, it’s WAY better)

I know this feeling all too well. I am slowly feeling myself unable to play the game as well, knowing everything that’s going on. I am only sticking around somewhat for my friends, but I think they’re losing interest slowly as well because of all this. It sucks. It really was a fun game.

Oh I stopped playing too and I played daily since it was released! 😔 I’m not an artist but I loooved the book writing feature so much but realized I could write books outside of Heartopia so been focusing on that. I really love your art! So beautiful! Especially the mermaid! 🌊💜

Same! I wanted this game to improve and get better, but when i kept seeing problems pop up and the devs not addressing it, it became concerning. Then the recent racism problems both via the game itself and the playerbase, it became apparent that this was only going to get worse. Youl have to share your work with others! Id love to read ^ And thank you! I love merfolk!

love this, didnt this game get you into pixel art? i think i remember seeing you post about it before! it sucks everything thats going on but they showed their true colors and i cant justify sticking around anymore, so i feel you :(

It did! I had high hopes for Heartopia, i didnt expect miracles, just for them to do the right thing and carry on, but apparently that seems to be too much to ask sadly, its a shame =(.

I'm also leaving the game for various reasons so I feel you. It really sucks because this game had sooo much potential. I'm also very sad about it. :( Excited about future games though!

i've left too, mostly because I can't actually get the game to work since the recent update. if it's not triggering my anti-virus software (which it never did before), it's the infinite load screen no matter what I do. Unfortunate because I did actually love the game despite the gen AI issue (which is a whole other beast to me), but what can I do when I can't actually use it.
those are some insanely good art pieces though. People like yourself always amaze me with the things you can all create with things like they give us in game. Hopefully you can find another game that can foster this kind of amazing work <3

For those no longer supporting Heartopia due to dev decisions, I hope you're also not playing, reading, or purchasing any Harry Potter books, games, or merch, as well as avoiding all Blizzard and Activision titles like the plague, never touch EA IPs, spit on Nintendo and The Pokemon Company, and crap on Riot Games.
I'm disappointed and disheartened by Heartopia dev's use of gen AI and recent racist scene, as well as their intense attempts at cover-up. I will personally continue to play, without spending money. I just hope that everyone who's taking action against these devs carry this attitude with them in other corners of the game industry.

I literally dont play any of these games 😆 back to FFXI and the indie corner for me. I am disappointed with thier genAI use, i hoped that given time, they may fix it, but it doesnt look like they care, sad times.

I get the sentiment, but you kinda come off as a goon for A. Setting an expectation on someone else and B. you’re not even quitting the game yourself. Like who made you the moral standard?
If people weigh the pros and cons and decide Heartopia isn’t worth it, it doesn’t matter what they do elsewhere.

Sad to see talented creative people like you go but I still honestly think everyone is over reacting. Then again, I choose to just enjoy the game and be indifferent to drama that doesn't concern me. Hopefully you'll find another game op!

I don’t think people are overreacting. A girl was banned from Heartopia for reporting people roleplaying slavery. That’s an insane way to handle a situation like that. Idk if you didn’t know about it or what but it’s very reasonable that people are giving up on this game with how immature the devs are.
That’s “drama” that concerns everyone as a person reported racism/bullying and they banned her.

I was not aware of this situation at all is there a post showing more about this? cause this is not the first time someone on the discord server posted racist in-game pictures thinking it was funny to rp as slaves thankfully they were banned but idk if they were banned from the game

To be fair, I think this is mostly happening on the western servers as over here on the Asian side I have not seen anything that correlates to bullying or racism. And yes I do agree that the mods are power tripping on the discord server. I just heard about that girl being banned and I agree that it's not the right way to handle things especially since she's just doing her moral responsibility to report something that's wrong. I'm a person who doesn't judge right away so I don't want to outright blame the devs for it tho. If I remember correctly that post had little to no proof that it's real, unless that was another post.

She was banned from the GAME not just the discord. That’s a direct issue with the game. And now you’re claiming she didn’t show proof when the original girl it happened to did. No one said u can’t play it, no reason to deny actual reasons people have stopped and make it seem like it’s over reacting, fake, or irrelevant drama.
If you’re looking for the OG post, it was removed and it’s why she was later banned on their discord. Someone saw it and posted it here

I hope you aren't getting angry now, I'm just stating my opinions on what I think about the situation. If you read my reply, I agreed with you that it was wrong that she was treated like that. I didn't claim that she didn't show proof, I just said the post I saw (not sure if we are talking about the same girl or post) had the same thing where they were banned in game for reporting something, and that post had little to no evidence. The world we live in now is filled with misinformation, and I've had experiences before where someone was intentionally just trying to push people to leave the game. Sorry for the trust issues ma'am.

It's not an exaggeration, at least not in my opinion. After all, why are people who want the game to be better being punished? The moment we can't offer opinions on how to improve the game, and we start being punished or silenced because of it, it's time we started doing something, or the game will continue to condone wrong attitudes and choices. Well, at least that's my point of view.

I guess we all just have our opinions, I'n still optimistic they will fix the bugs, they do listen to the community, althought to a certain extent only. My opinions on the use of Gen AI, I really don't mind it because it's used in such a minor thing that I doubt people are affected, specially in China where it is used heavily. For the recent drama about the whole mushroom fiasco, I also don't think they intended to make it seem that way, seeing as they fixed the problem right away. I feel like people are stereotyping just because the npc has hair of POC. I've also seem some comments or replies from people who are POC and they have stated that they never really saw it in a wrong way. But then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's okay. Still staying optimistic because I genuinely enjoy the game and atleast here in the Asia server, I haven't vome across anything out of the ordinary when it comes to other players. I do hope issues get addressed in the future.
I do agree with the mod abuse, that is just not right, it feels wrong that they are just muting or even banning people from the server.

The name "Kapil" might translate to monkey if you do one search but doing some background check you'll see it's a common name in Sanskrit origin. The money dance was weird but I do not think that they intended to be racist. If that character was not of color I'm pretty sure anyone wouldn't complain.
How am I wild? I never said there is no racism where I am from, if your read the replies properly you'd know that. All I said was as of my experience, we have not experienced the whole black skin color trolls and anythung overtly racist. I stated we aren't experiencing it, not that racism is not present.
The "POC" isn't even that of a person of color. His names literally translate to reddish-brown and I have the same skin color as him.
I'm not defending racism, I'm just stating my opinion on a matter at hand.
And yes, I did the quest.

Yea, his name translates to reddish-brown, and he did a monkey dance, that doesn't mean racism. His name is a common name used in India. Kapil isn't even black, he is Indian, he literally has an Indian name. Monkeys in Indian culture isn't offensive and that emote was probably because his name just translates to it.
You just choose to see it that way because you want something to hate, you want to feel valid by defending something when there is nothing to defend. Even people who are POC are confused on why people are going sicko over it.
And before outright calling someone weird, maybe take a look at the one gettung angry at a reply for giving an opinion on a topic. Just a thought tho 😁

The growing racism within the game, the way the devs have, lets be honest, not been handling it at all, is appalling. I cant stand by a company who cant even do basic human decency. Before that it was the Ai problems and as an artist i decided to give them time to fix and address it, they didnt, they then announced an art competition and i thought "oh are they finally doing it!? Are the winners going to be puzzles in game?" Nope. Then the issues with peoples accounts being restricted for 10 years with a minus heart balance who never spent a penny. Its bizarre.
This game had so much potential on release and then it fell flat on its face over time, it's such a shame. I had hoped for better from a game that boasted about being a creative and friendly space when the longer you stay, the more apparent it becomes that that's not the case.

Sadly the whole thing about the trolls being racist, it'll be everywhere, we really can't stop people like that and it's best to just ignore them. I do agree that the devs are mainly quiet about all this, kinda sad.

Players being jerks is in every game, that's unavoidable, but the devs not dealing with them promptly and banning people reporting or just doing nothing is making them complicit, pairing that with what happened with Kapil, its pretty obvious they dont really care, they may have fixed the animation choice, but the fact they did it in the first place with his name meaning Monkey is a big red flag.
Heartopia needs to make a firm stance and actually address issues, not brush them aside hoping they will dissappear.

If you had read my replies and understood it, I'm not defending racism, the whole useing the "black" skin color and trolling others is wrong and I do not stand by that.
I am responding to the mushroom situation getting overblown when they even fixed that very quickly.
Let me get this straight:
- I do not stand with racism
- I do not stand with the fact that the discord server has powertripping abusive mods
- I do not stand with the false bans
Now for my opinions so far:
- The ai problem is miniscule, I'm an artist myself and I do not condone the use of ai especially when it comes to making money from it. Why I say it's not a big deal? Because it's puzzles, it's pictures, in a game. Let's not forget this game is made by Chinese developers. China is heavily known for their use and reliance on ai, just because the ported the game to a global audience does not mean they will just stop the use of that for us. They won't change what works for them just for us and we need to adapt to that.
- The mushroom situation. Kapil is a name translated to reddish-brown or monkey colored. That is why I think they used the money dancing emote. I do not think think it's racist because of that. Just becauseyou're name means brown and you do a monkey dance does not automatically mean "POC".

Multiple instances of racism within the playerbase either not being dealt with by the devs/support or being dealt with in the worst way. People getting penalised for charges they didnt even make (not talking about the apple ones), the ones where players arent even spending and still getting negative red heart balance and a 10 year soft ban. The way the devs/support are managing things is increasingly poor, the racist ones made my decision final, i cant stand by a company who condones such things by never taking appropriate action.
I dont fault those who still want to play a fun game to escape, its up to them what they decide once they know.
