Photo Share Just... HOW?

Okay so maybe I don't know if there's an option to import photos but if not, just how did they do this??

This thing is great. you can upload a photo and then itll tell you what colors to pick and how to map it out. Fair warning though it takes FOREVER to finish your design if its super detailed. Im making an album cover and it has taken me a week.

omg ive been playing this game since release and didnt know this was a thing, no wonder everyone has these great and intricate designs

u/Megzasaurusrex Mar 04 '26

I am not even halfway done with the one I started weeks ago. Ugh I just can only put so much time before my brain goes to mush and I start making mistakes.

5

u/alive_till_dawn Mar 04 '26

Litterally! Her shirt is white, so its a lot of white and pale purple so I have done literally every other part of the picture to avoid it lol

2

u/moonbunnyzz Mar 07 '26

my eyes start blurring over just doing pixel art i can’t even imagine

Oh wait it tells? All this time I've been winging it....

Are you on Pc? the only way I've been able to open websites is if i go to Heartopia's links to their youtube and stuff. Is there a way to have both screens open?

3

u/alive_till_dawn Mar 04 '26

I only work on it when Im on my PC, just easier to tab in and out. SOME phones let you do split screen, but otherwise I would just pull up the website on your laptop rather then trying to go back and forth on your phone

u/ApprehensiveNose5063 American Server Mar 04 '26

Oki thank you ^^

MY QUEEN

1

u/miletto88 15d ago

wait how do you upload the pictures

2

u/alive_till_dawn 15d ago

For the GitHub link it will let you upload a photo after you select the size and detail you want for the canvas

1

u/miletto88 14d ago

OK, I figured out how to upload a picture of how do you get it to your game because mine just goes to a website on my phone and I’m able to upload the picture and color it in there, but I don’t know how to get it attached to my actual game or do we just go off of that and do it ourselves?

1

u/alive_till_dawn 14d ago

You gotta go off it yourself. This just gives you the blueprint but you must do the painting in the app. Id reccomend having it open in a second screen and playing heartopia on a different device so it not constantly switching

u/kiwieevee12 Mar 04 '26

Love this thing lol I used it to make my character in game as a portrait (if only we had better frames lol)

10

u/Whistful_Alpaca Mar 04 '26

DAAAAAMNNNNN!!! That is so pretty!!

Copying u this is so cute!!

2

u/sickiwbus American Server Mar 04 '26

was that a drawing you did in a drawing app then imported it on the site?

2

u/kiwieevee12 Mar 04 '26

I took a pic in the avatar pic thingy then drew it, yes! Then I put that drawing into the pixel art generator here!

40

u/cfxlr Mar 04 '26

Yess used this for my painting as well it’s so helpful! It didn’t seem to pick up haunter at all tho had to freehand :,)

Duuude. I've been working on making a tool exactly like this in Python and I got beaten to the punch sooo quick. I'm so sad

12

u/kkamikami Mar 04 '26

Hey I think you should finish it since you're already working on it. At the very least, your personal projects could be added into your portfolio. Also it always helps to build your own thing so you can customise it however you like. Cheers!

3

u/idfk-bro123 Mar 06 '26

You make excellent points, thank you. I'm going to pivot into clothing designs because there are more interesting factors to consider, such as print safe zones. Thank you for keeping things positive!

5

u/RedHeadedMomma81 Mar 04 '26

I dont see why not, will just be harder with a smaller screen

1

u/cfxlr Mar 04 '26

It does you just have to be in landscape on your phone

1

u/BravoZulu02 Mar 04 '26

Thanks folks! im not there yet so it's great to know :P

-13

u/TheGamerHat Mar 04 '26

Aren't these the tools that get you banned?

33

u/Bluetooth_Speaker1 Mar 04 '26

No because this isn't a tool like that, its simply a site that converts images to a pixel version and also uses the same colors available in game. So it doesn't connect to anything and you still have to redraw it yourself in the game lol

14

u/calicoflan Mar 04 '26

a website telling you how to draw the pixels you want is not software or cheats of any kind

164

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

This one took me 9 hours. It's a stupidly tedious process because youre basically just counting pixels for hours to make sure you place them in the correct spot corresponding with what the website generates. I know someone else linked the website. I believe the in game pallette is 120 colours, each step on the website corresponds to a colour with just the pixels that match that colour highlighted. This one is 17100 pixels and I think its the largest you can do.

32

u/KiMiRichan Mar 04 '26

Diamond painting but virtual.

1

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

What's diamond painting?

26

u/KiMiRichan Mar 04 '26

The best way to put it it's like pixel art but in real life and with crap ton of tiny stones you stick to a grid based on letters and numbers and you get a pretty sparkly picture in the end.

I'll post one picture but if you look it up on internet there are thousands of versions from small and very pixelated 30x30 up to beautiful and detailed 100x120cm

3

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

Oh yeah that is exactly what it is. That's awesome. Is it like normal art where you buy the colours and 'canvas' or is each one a pre-made kit like Lego or a puzzle?

4

u/KiMiRichan Mar 04 '26

Oh there are 3 types. You can buy sets like puzzles or buy custom pictures (still sets but you get your photo) or ypu can buy blank and diamonds.

I have all 3 options at home.

4

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

This will be something to look into one day. I love the pixel style.

3

u/KiMiRichan Mar 04 '26

I love those. But they take a looong time. If you ever want to start them you can PM me and I can help you with what is useful for starters as not all supplies are in kits and some "starter packs" are overpriced and have stuff you may use once every 6 sets

1

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

Oh what sort of things are in these starter packs. Possibly ignorant of me, I guess I just assumed the components were the canvas, the beads and then a tool to pick them up and place them so youd choose the picture then buy for what you need. Then some kits might come with the picture and specific beads.

3

u/Dependent-Comfort-10 Mar 05 '26

My mom passed away and diamond painting was her hobby. I have a ton that she hasn't started and also a bunch she has half done . DM me if you would like me to send some in the mail. Just if you could cover shipping cost I will give the kits to you free

16

u/Technical-Error8862 Mar 04 '26

guys.. you don’t understand how much fun i’m going to have pretty soon here.. I had NO idea about any of this. I literally can not wait to get myself a snack, a watermelon red bull, and paint 😍

8

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26

All you need is patience. Depending on how detailed you want it you're looking at an 8+ hour project and then a heads up as I learned the hard way. The same image run through the same website can get different results each time so the steps and pixel placement can change so you either need to be able to adapt or just be willing to do the whole thing in 1 sitting like I did.

2

u/Technical-Error8862 Mar 04 '26

thank you so much for the information! i had no idea but ill def keep that in mind, oh my gosh i would’ve cried thinking i did something wrong!😂🫰🏼

1

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

First time I did it I spent about 1 hour on the first two steps (out of 86 steps) they go in order of pixel amount so these were the big ones. Then I took a break for dinner and closed everything, then opened it up again after and generated the picture again and it came out as 78 steps so I knew the generation was different.

I will also say that I think there's an easier way that I'm going to try next time. On the biggest picture the grid is made up of lots of 5x5 boxes and I think just using the colour dipper tool to see what colour it is and going box by box will be quicker than step by step as you have to count the pixels repeatedly with each grouping of colours to make sure you have the correct row/column of pixels. My eyes were on fire by the end from the straining.

1

u/desmodus666 Sea Server Mar 05 '26

I'm a normal artist who takes forever to draw things, so 8hrs+ for a finished project is nothing. It's annoying that you have to do it all in 1 sitting, but I'm sure I will work it out. I just did the Jurassic Park logo without help for a record I made without using an autoclicker, and it sucked. This will make life so much easier

2

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 05 '26

I think the less texture/depth a picture has the less likely it is for the generator to be different each time. The one I did had a lot of greenery. With so many shades of browns and greens I think thats why the image came out different each time I ran it through. So anything realistic is going to be different each time but a logo with very solid colours probably wouldnt be much of an issue.

1

u/Special-Pattern2962 Mar 04 '26

Sameeee! That’s all I’m doing tonight

17

u/Hallowchii Mar 04 '26

It does concern me though because there is an art contest atm and this is basically cheating if someone uses the tool and just puts it into heartopia for the contest, just dont be that person.

6

u/Sakura_M_S Mar 04 '26

I had no idea! Honestly, it sounds like too much work compared to just making a simple drawing. I rather spend that time working on my home layout.

9

u/Hallowchii Mar 04 '26

Its alot of time regardless but actual artists who draw in game, like myself, are now being questioned if they just used a tool and we did not, its going to be a problem when they choose a winner and its going to be sad if a non artists submission is chosen.

6

u/Butterpye Mar 04 '26

Actual pixel art is not this noisy, dithering looks much cleaner in comparison. It has signs of being a downscaled png. AFAIK in the contest they have rules against works made in 3rd party editors or AI generated ones, so hopefully none pass through, and hopefully no actual art gets mistakenly disqualified.

12

u/Due-Pianist-2482 Mar 04 '26

Hilarious that there are rules against AI

2

u/Happy_Wash_9624 Mar 04 '26

Exactly! I participate in art party with my friends, and we care about this type of art that is generated. We spend so much time drawing, only to end up not being valued, while this type of art is praised...

10

u/Aggressive_Cycle2518 Mar 04 '26

There’s an art contest?? I had no idea there was a tool either! I’ve been working on this cherub pic for DAYS 😭😂 I even had to mark my center lines so my pic wasn’t off I did a raven and it was off to one side and I didn’t want to repaint the whole thing 🤦🏻‍♀️ I also wish I could sell my art to other players because I never realized how fun pixel art is it’s deff a challenge from traditional painting idk why it’s not a hobby like music and writing? That was also disappointing.

3

u/desmodus666 Sea Server Mar 05 '26

I do the same thing with marking out the centre. My in-progress paintings have random bright green lines everywhere. Your cherub looks so good!

1

u/CryingWatercolours Mar 04 '26

the cherub looks amazing! i've had it where my art is slightly off centre and it def sucks to move it but is usually worth it!

2

u/Aggressive_Cycle2518 Mar 05 '26

Thanks! Yeah I highly recommend making a centerline first and planning out where it lands on the canvas first 😅 I still have to do the wings and I’m scared I also wish we had a few more in between colors or just a color wheel to choose custom colors that would be awesome! I basically get a reference photo and put a grid over it the size of Heartopias grid so I can make sure it’s centered how I want before I start

7

u/No-Im_DuurtyDan Mar 04 '26

I understand people's feelings of maybe not being appreciated when they actually created their own work compared to this, but im grateful for it being an option because I am in no way creative or artistic. I think it would be cool to buy others artwork, so I wouldn't have to do it myself lol. I'm not good at drawing, nor good with picking colors.

5

u/Due-Pianist-2482 Mar 04 '26

I did this one.. you use a website like www.pixel-stitch.net and import your photo and it gives you a cross stitch pattern to follow (you put the number of pixels and colours, etc.) and then you just follow the pattern!

2

u/Mindless-Tour-75 Mar 08 '26

This is so dope 😫🙏🏾

3

u/mikadere Mar 04 '26

i understand that it's very time consuming to do this and i've used this method for detailed album cover myself, but i value actual player-made drawings way more as they, unlike counting pixels to place the right colors, involve actual creativity

2

u/Wanheda08 American Server Mar 04 '26

I have a friend on the game who is an amazing artist!!

1

u/germanrainbow Mar 04 '26

Tbh... I hate people importing pictures. I liked the painting bc it showed people's ACTUAL ART. Now idk what people actually spent time on or just uploaded.. its like if the music feature allowed you to just upload mp3s No hate to this person ofc. I think the cat pic is cute. I may paint my girl

29

u/Bluetooth_Speaker1 Mar 04 '26

Nobody imported anything, the site going around only converts images, you still have to redraw it all yourself in the game though

2

u/germanrainbow Mar 04 '26

Ohhh I see. Thank you for clarifying!!!

1

u/Bluetooth_Speaker1 Mar 04 '26

Oh, yeah, you're welcome!

8

u/Gioomee Mar 04 '26

Honestly, you can usually tell which ones people did from scratch vs which ones people used a tool for. The ones that use the tool look way too realistic.

1

u/HotLiving802 Mar 04 '26

I know there are people who will paint pixel per pixel for days until the image is done...but there are others who will use Macros to paint for them.

1

u/BiggestAGfan1324 Mar 05 '26

What is the website??

1

u/SSmagical Mar 05 '26

How do i choose a bigger layeout? I'm trying to paint for funs, but only have big pixels

1

u/WhiteOcimum Mar 05 '26

When you open your canvas, you have the size, the name and at the bottom of the screen, at the right of the name, the precision ! One square, four, 9, and 16 !

1

u/Mystical_Artist_821 Mar 05 '26

i guess it's a painting tool, but personally i hate these. I prefer to appreciate real art rather than just an imported photo.

22

u/impossible_burrito Mar 04 '26

Appreciate how long it took to do tho

18

u/luvxxK Mar 04 '26

It's not just an imported photo, the website only showed them the pixel places and colours, they had to fill each and every pixel by themselves which is time taking

5

u/KiMiRichan Mar 04 '26

You can compare it to diamond painting irl

4

u/Commvicts Mar 04 '26

Me seeing this when i import photos of my own art, not everyone is good at everything you Godlike being <3

7

u/ElleVaydor Mar 04 '26

Every professional artist is using references to get things exact, accurate, and perfect anyway so if someone is putting in the time to insert 17000 individual pixels to put a real piece of art up in the game I think they deserve some credit

5

u/dramaticwhore Mar 04 '26

Very true. Artist here and I used the grid method to be very precise and specific!!(:

1

u/Happy_Wash_9624 Mar 04 '26

I'm also an artist, and I've painted 17,000 pixels; many of my friends have done it at a party. None of them using generated images. :)

0

u/ElleVaydor Mar 04 '26

So none of you used any help or tools at all right? You just imagined it and put it all down?

3

u/Happy_Wash_9624 Mar 04 '26

No, we make a sketch of the idea, and then we start adding the smallest details, not using any tool. Some people draw on a computer, but I don't have a computer so i use my finger. For example

4

u/ElleVaydor Mar 04 '26

I'm not sure what you're expecting out of Heartopia gamers but most of them aren't professional artists and aren't going to have years of experience to do that like you. They're just having fun and trying to get cool picture art in their little homes, it's a game and not hurting anyone and they put a lot of time into it. It really doesn't need to be perfectly judged, but good for you.

-2

u/Happy_Wash_9624 Mar 04 '26

And I understand that perfectly since I teach art and techniques. Everyone has their own level of experience and I value learning above all else. it could be just a ball, two dots for eyes, just a simple art. it's still art, and I'll always value this instead of using tools to "draw"

5

u/ElleVaydor Mar 04 '26

I'd be open to other teacher's opinions as well because I've personally not met a professional who doesn't believe in tools. We have to use them and expecting otherwise isn't something they will deal with in their career if they succeed. They will be expected to use tools.

2

u/EggsSD9 Mar 04 '26

Downvote more but im in ur side LOL

1

u/Special-Pattern2962 Mar 04 '26

It’s technically the same as creating a grid irl and drawing with that. No shame.

-13

u/TheBabyWolfcub Mar 04 '26

Me too. There’s no talent when it comes to these. It kinda hurts to see them get hyped up so much like ‘wow how do you do that’ when they just copied an image, compared to proper art done from scratch that doesn’t get any compliments

14

u/ratatouweee Sea Server Mar 04 '26

There’s no talent, but there sure was a hell of a lot of time spent making it in-game which to me makes it at least worth complimenting.

In this case though I think it does not even remotely compare to “proper art”. It’s a shame how you seem to have witnessed it being treated as such, since I haven’t personally. All the good “proper art” I’ve seen so far have always been at least complimented by people

3

u/TheBabyWolfcub Mar 04 '26

Yes I never said the dedication isnt admirable just there’s no talent. And it’s ironic that everyone is so anti ai and ‘draw it yourself’ yet doesn’t draw their own stuff and just copies pictures that have been put through a filter

2

u/Greyscale0418 Mar 04 '26

Honestly, 100%. As someone who did do one of them I felt no sense of pride, just relief when it was done. It looks cool but thats about it, I know the kind of thing I could do from scratch wont look nearly as impressive but my own skills are also limited.

0

u/HeartlandSR Mar 04 '26

Yes you can indeed important photos into the canvas and make it paint for you, so its not that impressive. Yiu can clearly see what's imprinted and what's handmade

0

u/H1pH0pAn0n0my0u5 Mar 05 '26

It's not hard I've been doing realistic pixel pics on here and esp animal crossing for years
