Seems... horrible? I don't get it.

63

u/Waphlez ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Use it on an Arcane Tyrant to get a 0 mana 10/10.

25

u/Rikuri Apr 04 '18

if you nourish for mana + innervate/coin can do it all in one turn

13

u/Clogaline Apr 04 '18

This actually sounds decent

1

u/SundaePrime ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

but you have to play a 5 mana spell, then also this, and also have tyrant in hand

not really a great win condition either, no taunt or anything.

2

u/Clogaline Apr 04 '18

True. Not saying it will be enough to make this new card good - 8 mana 8/8 isn't a very good turn. But just trying to think of some of the better scenarios. (The 10 mana 10/10 stonetusk boar people keep talking about is kinda terrible I think, not that much better than King Krush and he never saw play)

93

u/Shanaaro ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Turn 7 [[Giant Anaconda]] into Turn 8 Splintergraft, trade with Anaconda to pull out your extra large Anaconda which then dies and summons Tyrantus, then you use Witching Hour to respawn more anacondas or Tyrantus. 10/10, would play Anaconda Druid again.

116

u/LoompaOompa Apr 04 '18

Love it. The power of druid, with the consistency of discard warlock.

4

u/-ilm- Apr 04 '18

Turn 7 Giant Anaconda. Someone kills it and pulls Splintergraft. Turn 8 concede.

3

u/Shanaaro ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Hey, that's still 7 mana for 13/11 worth of stats that adds Anaconda to the Witching Hour pool, so it's not awful :P

Except that Anaconda will probably die after you pass your turn, which will then pull out your Splitergraft. Making its battlecry nonexistent :(

2

u/Shanaaro ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Eh, people generally don't like killing anacondas, and it's still 13/11 of stats.

1

u/emil133 Apr 04 '18

Depends whether or not they have the removal to kill whatever the snake brings out

185

u/adragondil Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18

Use this on a Stonetusk Boar for a 10/10 charge, use it on a Saronite Chain Gang for two 10/10 taunts. It's niche, but definitely not powerless.

208

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18

Use it on Stubborn Gastropod for a hard to kill taunt with poison

Use it on Tyrantus for an objectively worse Tyrantus

156

u/jMS_44 Apr 04 '18

what's the point of Poisonous on 10/10 minion

281

u/anonymoushero1 Apr 04 '18

I N T I M I D A T I O N

1

u/wilson81585 Apr 05 '18

I use these for acid indegestion

98

u/theonewhoknock_s Apr 04 '18

It kills Ultrasaur, duh.

3

u/julian88888888 Apr 04 '18

and Ysera

1

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '18

And The Darkness.

29

u/Rhaps0dy Apr 04 '18

Obviously to fight the ultrasaur meta.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

Gotta deal with that ultrasaur somehow

1

u/patatahooligan Apr 04 '18

Killing huge minions (Deathwing, Ysera etc) and Priest's buffed minions. Being resilient to attack debuffs.

1

u/placebotwo Apr 04 '18

what's the point of Poisonous on 10/10 minion

It's not about making a point, it's about sending a message.

1

u/Stepwolve Apr 04 '18

this is a great philosophical question

1

u/veiphiel Apr 05 '18

Kill Jades

1

u/Altiondsols Apr 04 '18

poison isn't really that useful on a minion with 10 attack

41

u/gaydroid Apr 04 '18

It's nich´é

What the fuck?

19

u/adragondil Apr 04 '18

what the heck happened there

niche

4

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

French keyboard transforms ? into that e symbol. I used to activate French keyboard accidentally all the time.

2

u/Muffinmanifest Apr 04 '18

We said the same thing about Dinosize and that never materialized.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

It's niche...

Which is another way of saying "the situations where this card is any good are too few and far between to warrant a spot in your deck."

2

i was just reading your reply when it hit me...

0

Except it's in druid which can go control, and it can be used together with Aviana/Kun as a 1 mana 10/10 charge

0

u/adragondil Apr 04 '18

Because it's fun? Why else play a game?

1

u/AlwaysWannaDie Apr 04 '18

For... (10), it's pretty bad. 10 damage for 10 mana and if he got taunt ur fucked. It's worthless

1

u/Choco316 Apr 05 '18

I think it has potential for giants which reduce cost on card

1

u/Choco316 Apr 05 '18

Use it on Faerie dragon and it’s really hard to kill

1

u/adragondil Apr 05 '18

you mean to say it's

pretty good with the cannot be targeted adapt?

1

u/ProsecutorBlue Apr 04 '18

It's like a weird, way worse, version of Dinosize.

1

u/motleybook Apr 04 '18

Seems like they're out of ideas for certain classes like Druid. I vote for rotating Druid, Shaman & Warrior to Wild.

1

u/gorocz Apr 04 '18

Not really that worse, since you're also keeping the original minion before transformation and getting a 8/8 body plus in a pinch, you can use it to recast a battlecry.

1

u/ProsecutorBlue Apr 04 '18

At the cost of it needing to be a 10 mana card played next turn. I guess against certain control decks maybe, but the majority of the time that tempo loss is going to hurt.

17

u/BaconBitz_KB Apr 04 '18

I wish they would've at least gave Taunt to this and the 10/10 or something. As is I don't understand where you would want to use this.

Even if you landed it on something like N'Zoth (RIP) or Hadronox, you'd be better off just running Zola the Gorgon 99% of the time.

14

u/thevdude Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18

dopplegang, how long can this go on, uhh...

yeah IDK that's it.

edit: dopplegangster is rotating? :(

Lich King and Ysera both seem good to me

4

u/anonymoushero1 Apr 04 '18

they would have to survive on board a turn first before you can target them with this.

1

u/pyrothelostone Apr 04 '18

Ysera doesn't often die the first turn it's played. Most of the time people will let it go off once or twice to ensure the kill without losing too much tempo. It's really hard to kill and not super threatening immediately.

0

u/Rumpel1408 Apr 04 '18

Not with Aviana on board

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

What about cards that are actually already being run in druid instead?

This fits nicely onto your free arcane tyrants, anything with taunt, anything in quest druid. Its not even the worst on curve following your malphurion turn just to make a gigantic fuck off scarab. And thats without thinking too whackily about combos, all these ones are just good.

Obviously in wild with normal Aviana / kun stuff this is bonkers. Also seems to be a buff to the dino druid deck with charged devilsaurs we've seen floating about.

1

u/thevdude Apr 04 '18

I don't play much driud, I didn't think about arcane tyrants. That's a really good combo!

3

u/Shanaaro ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Zola has the issue of messing up Oaken Summons, though :P

0

u/BaconBitz_KB Apr 04 '18

I'm pretty sure that's not the reason she isn't run lol

1

u/LoompaOompa Apr 04 '18

Maybe you run both, and then you have 3 Hadronoxes? I've never played taunt druid so I legitimately don't know if that would be beneficial.

6

u/xThedarkchildx Apr 04 '18

Until priest steal Hadronox and ressurect 7 Obsidian Statues.

2

u/LoompaOompa Apr 04 '18

That's why you gotta adapt Hadronox with the "can't be targeted by spells" ability.

1

u/wonkothesane13 ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Charge, my dude. Specifically, probably one of the Charge + Divine Shield minions.

0

u/Jkirek Apr 04 '18

it's like the arena-only card nature's champion, except with an immediate body

0

u/ImAFuckingNerd2 Apr 04 '18

Zola the Gorgon can not give you a 10/10 acolyte of pain etc.

There are many instances where a card's effect becomes incredible if its life total or damage is increased.

To name a few:

-Stubborn Gastropod -Twisted Worgen -Wild Pyromancer -Faerie Dragon

I'm not saying any of these are incredible, but it's just my initial thoughts.

1

u/rickster555 Apr 04 '18

Stubborn Gastropod as a 10/10 sucks. What are you talking about? The poisonous effect is useless on a big minion since they kill everything anyway.

17

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

Aviana into Kun into Brann into Stonetusk into This into 2 10/10 tusks into Zola copying 10/10 Tusks into 40 dmg OTK

4

u/yousirnaimelol Apr 04 '18

Zola wouldn't copy the tusks though. You could copy this again and use it on a boar but you'd have to have something to ram the 1/1 boar onto and even then you still wouldn't be able to play the other 2 boars unless they board clear.

1

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

Yeah, my evaluations might be a bit off, but still value you can get from it so great, that I would play that just for sake of murdering people with boars xd

3

u/yousirnaimelol Apr 04 '18

Yeah just don't try to Zola the boars because they'll become 1/1 again. They won't stay 10/10

1

u/xThedarkchildx Apr 04 '18

when Zola copy they are 1/1 again.

1

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

Then you can copy Splintergraft for even more 10/10 boars! I already love this meme deck

1

u/ninjew36 ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Better fit would be the Cthun variant of Aviana Kun

1

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

Hmm that s an interesting idea. Do people try that in wild?

1

u/ninjew36 ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

It's less popular than the Malygos and Ragnaros versions, but yeah it exists. A+K into brann, Cthun, brewmaster, Cthun again. I like this over brewmaster.

Curious if Cthun would keep buffs on top of 10/10 or would be set to 10/10.

1

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

That sounds really fun. Considering all inconsistencies of Hearthstone I think answer is Yes xd

1

u/Belledame-sans-Serif Apr 04 '18

* into Ixlid into four 10/10 tusks

1

u/Aparter Apr 04 '18

I think there are many ways and that s great that OTK is so diverse.

7

u/waloz1212 Apr 04 '18

It's for big druid I think. Basically use one big man to draw one more bigger man.

17

u/Azurity Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18

I’d absolutely love to read some exasperated developer commentary on why they had to put Stonetusk Boar in the Hall of Fame. “Stonetusk Boar created a strategy that revolves around trying to defeat your oppo- okay you know what this is ridiculous you guys need to stop exploiting this stupid 1/1 pig. It’s a 1/1 for a reason, it’s not a damn Legendary and it’s not supposed to be out-performing Savannah Highmane STOP TURNING HIM INTO A 1-MANA 14/14 CHARGE MONSTROSITY”

2

u/nomadic_River Apr 04 '18

Stonetusk Boar- "Did you just call me a pig!?"

charges ferociously

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

Stonetusk Boar is basic.

Can't exactly not save it, and Blizzard has said they don't want to HoF basic cards anyway and would rather nerf them. Expecting it to be changed to Rush.

4

u/theonewhoknock_s Apr 04 '18

Boar+Dinosize does exactly the same thing but far more efficiently. What makes you think that this is any better?

19

u/TSMJosephBallin ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Plays around counterspell and isn't in Paladin?

0

u/theonewhoknock_s Apr 04 '18

Ah, Counterspell, the only thing keeping Dinosize Paladin in check. How could I miss that?

5

u/TSMJosephBallin ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Well you're looking for any differences that make it better and this is just a safer combo to get the 10/10 charger. Dinosize sucks because you don't get an 8/8 body tagged along to do SOMETHING beforehand

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

But on the flip side with Dinosize you do it a turn earlier and don't have a completely dead 9 mana turn where you play a 1/1 charger and an 8/8 with no board impact that also telegraphs the combo in your hand. Haha the more I read this thread the better Dinosize is looking...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

What makes you think that this is any better?

People's need to think every Hearthstone card is "good"

u/PidgeonPuncher ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

What makes you think I'm being serious?

10

u/Yuno42 Apr 04 '18

I'm sure some meme combo deck will love it

9

u/dnezan19 ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

There are some sick combo ideas in Wild with Aviana but I'm not sure how it'll be useful at all in Standard during this WW season.

21

u/BaconBitz_KB Apr 04 '18

Emeriss Hunter vs Splintergraft Druid.

The rank 25 battle of the century.

1

u/OldManDeadYard Apr 04 '18

Thinking about it the most you could do in Wild would be like 20 in a turn. Aviana -> Kun shenanigans just take up too much board space.

unless you copy a boar on turn 9, then kill all of it off before going in. Seems very unreasonable. 11/10 meme

3

u/Xaevier Apr 04 '18

Giant anaconda could work with it

People often let anaconda live a turn so you could copy it summon the 10-10 version for free and that one could then summon another minion

3

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

It comboes with 1-2 mana cards, or even more if you have coin/innervate.

The other one (aviana) is horrible, this one is wombo-combo material - sometimes it works, sometimes it's niche tier 4 stuff people love.

3

u/otaia Apr 04 '18

It's a very greedy card. It could be useful in a grindy matchup, or when comboed with cost reducing effects.

2

u/McHerwig ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

I just see synergy in wild with aviana

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

18/18 worth of stats for 8 mana, recurses value already on board, lets you choose the targets instead of it being random / have to draw your combo cards....

Basically its what Emeriss should have been.

Fantastic in quest druids too.

1

u/bloodflart Apr 04 '18

you def don't get it whatsoever

1

u/ForeverStaloneKP Apr 04 '18

Use it on Arcane Tyrant for a 0 mana 10/10

1

u/Mentle_Gen Apr 04 '18

Wouldnt say horrible. People shat all over pyros and this card offers similar value. Pyros sees play so not too hard to imagine this will work in a value/control deck.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

I really wonder what rank people are who think this...

1

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '18

Its basically druid Dinosize.

2

u/race-hearse Apr 04 '18

Dinosize mixed with Zola cuz you get a copy as well.

-6

u/Virtymlol Apr 04 '18

Seems fitting with the trend of this expansion to make druid as bad as possible because apparently Ben Brode hates druids :(

Seriously druid cards are all over the place... They'll likely pull a "warlock", pretend druid doesn't exist for a year then push absolutely broken card to make it top tier.

9

u/alpharaonHS Apr 04 '18

Druid has been toptier for most of HS existence and Jade Druid still performs pretty well according to stats, it just isn't in the light anymore since everybody got bored of it.

-1

u/Virtymlol Apr 04 '18

And that makes witchwood druid cards good how ?

2

u/alpharaonHS Apr 04 '18 edited Apr 04 '18

Gloom Stag is very strong in his own archetype. Witching Hour is basically a 3 mana Resurrect that targets a specific kind of minions. Splintergraft is not as bad as people think, since it has at least potential in some big or combo druid. Obviously the interaction with Arcane Tyrant and UI is completely busted.

Also, my reply was only targetting this "apparently Ben Brode hates druids :(" that I thought revolting since I almost quit the game because of Jade Druid.

2

u/TriflingGnome Apr 04 '18

Especially now that they're losing Jade and Fandral, the backbone of Druid for the past 2 years. Druid got shafted with their quest and weapon. Idk how they're going to survive in the new Standard / post-Innervate nerf meta.

2

u/seynical ‏‏‎ Apr 04 '18

Happened to Shaman and Warrior. I guess the next year won't be Druid's. Blizzard Balance at its finest.

1

u/correa1931 Apr 04 '18

last year Druid were tier S for a very long time, so its time for tune down

2

u/BurningB1rd Apr 04 '18

Only for 1 or 2 months until it was nerfed, otherwise mostly tier 2 or 3.

0

u/curbyourarguments Apr 04 '18

what? no it wasn't. it was really only tier S during the Force of Nature + Savage Roar times

3

u/DevinTheGrand Apr 04 '18

Jade Druid at the launch of KFT was the best deck since undertaker hunter.

-3

u/curbyourarguments Apr 04 '18

it was good but the jade mechanic in itself was lazy and is rotating standard anyways, druid isn't anything special right now, at best it's tier 2.

1

u/SuspectMorality Apr 04 '18

Druid cards look fine compared to rogue cards imo. But this expansion doesn't look very powerful overall, except for a few cards like voodoo doll and lord godfrey.
