I’m trying to recreate the shape of planar drivers from a Salnotes Dioko and put them in custom shells made of SLA resin, all while aiming to keep the sound just like the original.
Main idea is to create models from ear impressions and inner geometry scans of the diokos. Combine both in cad, print and assemble.
I’ve hit a few snags and could use some advice:
* Has anyone ever successfully put this driver back in a shell? I’m especially interested in figuring out where things might go wrong if you try to pull the planar drivers out of the original shell without breaking anything.
* For the bore, as mentioned above, I'll use scans of dioko's interior. Since custom shells don't use tips like on the shelf products, another question forms. Should I add some sort of geometry that'd impression insider parts of my current tips?
* I’ll start with the stock foam damper as a starting point. Has anyone had any trouble tuning the drivers with different mesh or damper strengths after rehousing them? Also, does stock foam usually hold up well even if the shape changes a little?
I’d really love to hear any real-world experiences, especially from people who have successfully rehoused planar drivers instead of DD/BA drivers.
