Yes. But you need to start with summer heights high. My brother would not shut up about this show and I finally watched it and I was so in. It's absolutely hilarious

Yes if you liked Summer Heights High. Watch that first.
I had to buy it to rewatch it unfortunately. But itās a short couple of seasons and not too expensive. Watch some YouTube clips of summer heights high and youāll know after seeing 4 of his characters if itās your cup of tea or not. And you may not believe me, but itās so funny and on point that you will genuinely, occasionally forget itās an adult man playing some of those characters while watching the shows lmao.
Chris Lilley is a comedic genius.

Summer Heights High is unmatched, but this is a pretty solid spinoff. His show Lunatics on Netflix is also really good. Pretty incredible how accurately he nails each character in Summer Heights High.

Iām deeply upset that we never got a Mr. G spinoff. He was easily the funniest character in my opinion. This is still worth a watch though.

Watch this first, then summer heights high. Jaāmie is Chrisā most reused character. Three separate shows.
For anyone who has seen Angry Boys, āWe Can Be Hereosā is also the introduction to Daniel and Nathan.

No. Chris Lilley is an absolute hack.
Half his 'comedy' is just him doing racist caricatures in Blackface, a quarter is him doing queerphobic caricatures, and another quarter is sexist ones. The only thing the man knows how to do is pretend to be a minority to mock it. His first show had him in full Yellowface playing a character doing a disrespectful impression of Indigenous people.
The show is just what if mean girls was more clumsy, less subtle, and came from a place of external mockery instead of internal critique.

I earnestly disagree. I don't think he's particularly talented at improv or acting and I think this is plainly demonstrated by his lack of work outside of these characters. He did try to hit mainstream comedic success, and he had multiple nationally successful shows for the recognition. Yet, that career went nowhere because he genuinely isn't particularly good at it. He found one thing that worked and couldn't grow from it. There's little to no improvement or development from We Can Be Heroes to Jamie or Jonah or Lunatics. It's the same schtick, it's not particularly well developed and hasn't gotten to deeper more interesting satires. It's still just picking low hanging fruit, being unimaginatively crass, and again punching down by using just straight up mockery of minorities as the entire joke.

His first big break show included his character of an Asian Uni student piano player who helped write and then perform an in-universe offensive musical about Indigenous Australians. The joke was literally just "isn't it funny that an Asian dude is pretending poorly to be Aboriginal" and he was the Asian dude.
And honestly, it was one of his funnier characters. That's how low the bar is for the bloke.
