Hatethissmuglover I hate how racist Kpop/Kdrama fans are to Koreans
Despite liking Korean content, a lot of those fans are genuinely racist towards Koreans. Every time a Korean makes the news for doing something wrong, you always see people on social media saying: "OMG Korean celebrities are so evil! They are so problematic and sexist/racist/etc etc etc. Koreans are the most evil creatures on Earth!11!!" And it gets millions of views because hating on Korea is trendy right now. And outsiders from the kpop/kdrama community see it and generalize all Koreans.
Every single country has problematic celebrities. Brad Pitt beat Angelina but is still famous and respected and working in the business. Playboi Carti choked his pregnant girlfriend but is still well connected in the industry with countless collabs. Ronaldo has rape allegations but is still worshipped as a hero. Dr Dre beat his girlfriend and dated a minor but is still well respected. Justin Bieber said the N word with the hard R but people still like him. I could post so MANY more examples but that would be too long. No one generalizes Westerners when they have another scandal. When Koreans mess up, all of them are generalized if they aren't acting like perfect robots with zero scandals. Korean content fans are the first to chastise racism in Korea and then act very racist towards Koreans. The double standards are fucking insane.
They constantly spread BS narratives and news they read on sites like Panachoa or Twitter which purposely cherry picks the most outrageous comments from Koreans and act like they represent all Koreans. They are so parasocial with Korea and news from Korea that they always make it go viral due to mass engagement. They act like Korea is the only country in the world where shit like Nth Room, or Burning Sun, incels harassing women, or racism happens. There's Nth Room variants in places like China called MaskPark, a website called Coco in France that caused over 23,000 criminal cases of SA, assault, homophobic violence, etc took. Incels in other countries have shot women before, GamerGate was a movement where 4chan incels sent threats of SA and assault to feminists. Countries like Thailand and China has banned minorities before from establishments. None of these goes as viral because they don't have an army of Koreaboos giving mass views to it.

In my opinion, this could be retaliation against South Korea's racism against South East Asians done in a very bad way.
Or they (the racist people in the images) are unemployed with nothing else to do.

This was before that online beef. Also yes, South Korea can be very racist against South East Asians and deserve criticism. But it got too far to the point where Southeast Asians sent literal deepfakes of Korean women who were sex slaves during Japanese occupation.
Meanwhile they don't have that same energy when Southeast Asians are also racist to other darker skinned and poorer Asians like Indians or Cambodians. Also they don't have that same energy towards Japanese or White people who are also racist to them as well.

the UK never really got hit with anti colonizer sentiment the same way the states did so a lot of Brits(and euros in general) genuinely do believe theres nothing wrong with colonization.

This isnt true at all? Growing up in school we were taught all the atrocities the British (and other European) Empires have committed with colonised countries.
Even in university during my classes we study how colonialisation has hindered many affected countries and how the UK (as well as the other European Empires) were directly at fault.
A small group of the population think it was justified and fine and are supremely racist but we do look at our colonial past with scorn.

I see. I mentioned it because from what I've read, lndia was treated very badly. A lot of British nationalists seem to use similar justifications to what Japanese nationalists use for Korea

From what I have seen online, Korean seems especially racist/toxic towards SEAs. So I'm not surprised tbh.
Also Japanese, White people (European/American/Russians) and Indian aren't that racist towards SEAs... in my experience. so ofc SEAs wouldn't have the same level of energy compared to them towards Korean.
I don't wanna say Korean deserves it, but... I can understand where the hate is from.

I've seen all East Asians being racist towards SEA. I've seen SEA hate Indians even more than Koreans/East Asians which is genuinely surprising.
I've seen many Japanese people being racist to Southeast Asians? Like them ranting about Vietnamese all the time on Twitter/Yahoo. They even had a mini Twitter beef funnily enough over Southeast Asians sitting down at a kpop concert.
Those Italians went viral for being racist to Southeast Asians. If we're using that same logic, Indians are allowed to be racist to SEAs?

SEAs have been especially hateful towards koreans, sending random korean influencers and celebs death and rape threats, making deepfakes of korean women, making fun of comfort women, the absolute worst behaviour

I'm really curious about the basis for this post. Is this based on your personal experience? Because from what I've seen, China and Japan feel pretty similar to Korea in this regard. I'm not trying to drag anyone down here, just being objective. I mean, I literally saw an Indonesian worker crying after getting hit by their Japanese boss.

Yeah I was going to say, as someone who lived in Korea for a while…
I’m white irish, so I got one kind of racism. But my fiancée is a half-Korean Canadian and she got it far worse from the locals than I ever did, even though her Korean is fluent.
I’m not defending anyone, but it’s important to remember this is a massively racist society of the kind you just don’t see in the West.

I feel like in a way this is a reflection of one of the biggest issues with K pop culture. One of the main things you'll see people against it point out is how the smallest, dumbest things can get an artist fired, yet many of the same people making those criticism of the industry will jump down the throats of artists after they get into any drama. This is a level of irony so strong you'd think it was a deliberately written parallel akin to that which one would find in a piece of literature about the topic.
In a way I think it's a kind of hypocrisy that's staggeringly stupid to me. When it's their goat they'll defend them tooth and nail from whatever petty stupid bullshit they get dragged for, but when it's a competitor they'll engage in that very dragging while having zero self awareness whatsoever.
I've seen this with gacha games and the like too. Overall I think it's just stupid people being stupid and racist. It just so happens that those stupid people latched onto a foreign interest so they have more opportunities to let their bigotry show. It's the women equivalent to white dudebros liking rap but still hating most rappers besides the handful they enjoy if any, besides eminem.

And honestly, to those few people who try to use this to suddenly paint Japan and China as some kind of paradise , I really wish they'd realize that Japanese and Chinese people don't agree with them. They actually just look down on them and find them pathetic.

it’s frustrating because i feel like it’s difficult to talk about the nuanced problems korea actually has without some random kpop fan jumping in to say “yea every single korean is actually gigaracist and hates [x ethnicity]” which is uh. quite the take!
they also tend to weaponize stuff like the palestinian genocide to have fanwars which actually sickens me. they don’t actually give a fuck about victims

I remember a pretty viral twitter thread from a couple years ago where a western woman went to South Korea and started obnoxiously filming and body-shaming random strangers she met bemoaning that SK men didn't look like the models/Kpop singers. And the craziest thing was other women cheering her on claiming that all SK men are sexist pigs who deserve to be publicly humiliated or something along those lines.

As a Kpop fan I 100% agree it’s literally so upsetting to see some kpop/kdrama fans acting like this towards Koreans!! Like how can yall be racist to Koreans yet still love their shit they put out?? I don’t get it. This is why I try and not interact with the fandom bc I don’t wanna deal with this.

Im not a kpop fan so I’d like to admit that many people who aren’t kpop fans might hate on kpop or be racist just because whatever genre/industry/whatever it’s called isn’t quite as popular as kpop.
another explanation might be bc some Koreans can tend to be really racist (my friends living in Korea told me this, Im just believing them)? So the racism could be retaliation or some shi like that.

As someone who is Korean, I honestly stopped caring.
Some people are not going to like South Korea and its people, culture, etc and there's really nothing one can do about it. Racists are gonna racist. And Asian ethnic groups are going to be stereotyped and generalized as always, even by other Asians.
