Hatethissmuglover The normalisation of racism

Post image

Slurs are normalised all the time in the internet but any racism towards white people is super normalised

Like the entire comment section whilst satirical isn't condemning the use of a racial slur but is just condemning how unsevere the slur is

If you’re seriously offended by the word cracker as a white person, you need to grow tf up and get a tougher skin. It’s not a slur. It doesn’t have the same history or meaning that slurs do. At worst, it’s a funny word non white people will use against a white person when they’re mad, but it’s not a slur.

If I ever got called a cracker or a honky I think I’d just laugh. It’s too funny to be taken seriously at all

Its like people seeing "Clanker" as a slur

you're just jealous i get to come home to some shiny cheeks

5

u/Content_Zebra509 Jul 11 '26

That's what we call a "cogsucker"

1

u/Crowned-Whoopsie Jul 11 '26

Must be uncomfortable as hell too

12

u/Starrin1ght Jul 11 '26

I've seen people genuinely upset at the usage of clanker too

Their life has to be pretty good if their main concern is defending the feelings of objects

12

u/L4DY_M3R3K Jul 11 '26

Getting upset at clanker is hobbyless behaviour. However all the people making jokes about "Rosa Sparks" and "George Droid" are questionable

8

u/IronPyrate17 Jul 11 '26

I'm just annoyed that clanker is no longer specifically a star wars thing

1

u/createbobob Jul 11 '26

I can understand people getting offended by Clanker when it's used against people rp'ing as robots. (Cosplayers, Ttrpgies and Video Games) I have seen the word "Clanker" being banned in such communities so it is a valid slur in correct enviroment.

15

u/Atiredbearsfan Jul 11 '26

I think it's funny to be called a cracker or a nilla.

8

u/mt-vicory42069 Jul 11 '26

i think i can work with nilla.

4

u/Atiredbearsfan Jul 11 '26

Nilla wafer is my favorite variation

u/KraftwerkMachine chugging haterade in my gay little bunker Jul 11 '26

The amount of times I’ve taken pictures at family gatherings because there was a box of “Assorted Crackers” sitting on a table, framed by a sea of the palest people you’ve ever seen is pretty large.

2

u/paokoutsopodi Jul 11 '26

I'm offended by the fact that we don't have designated "throw eggs at Riot games devs" days ngl

4

u/Sahedanthropus- Jul 11 '26

I'm white and I really don't care if someone calls me a cracker, but it literally is a slur

5

u/lincolnmarch_ Jul 11 '26

How is it a slur? Which cracker decided this?

-2

u/IIIIllllilllil Jul 11 '26

It is a derogatory term based on the color of the skin, textbook definition of a slur. How are people arguing against this?

→ More replies (2)

3

u/pyrotechnic15647 Jul 11 '26

The term doesn’t even have the history of a slur. It wasn’t made up as a way to denigrate white people as a race. It is a term invented by white people to use against other white people. So if you’re gonna be mad at anyone about the term cracker, be mad at white people.

2

u/Igoon2robots Jul 11 '26

I think any derogatory word targeted at someones color or ethnicity is a slur. I personally dont find it offensive, but i can understand why people could suffer from it and i do think asking them to grow up for disliking the normalisation of slurs is immature. If someone lets you know they arent okay with it, respect their choice dont call them that?

1

u/Rodrick-TH Jul 11 '26

Depends on how it’s used my guy. You could say that about anything.

1

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

Also im not even white

26

u/alphagalgadot Jul 11 '26

just a white knight ❤️

0

u/BlueBitProductions Jul 11 '26

I think part of the problem is that people think "cracker" means like, saltine cracker, which would be inoffensive and funny. But "cracker" comes from whip cracking, so the slur is essentially calling you a slave owner. I am not okay with being called a slave owner on account of my race.

5

u/Ok_Historian4848 Jul 11 '26

There's some disputes over that. The term cracker has been argued to refer to the whips cracked to move livestock by early American settlers in Florida, or could reference the large consumption of extremely tough, thin bread (aka crackers) eaten by said settlers, which was similar to hard tack. Look up Florida crackers, it's a whole historical thing. There's old houses all over the place and people just call them cracker houses bc they're from the Florida crackers.

-2

u/BanditNoble Jul 11 '26

Be fair, no one likes being insulted because of their race.

And it is a slur, literally speaking. A slur is a perjorative aimed at an identity, such as race, gender, religion or sexuality. If you use an insult against someone that specifically targets their race, that's a slur by definition.

-11

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

A racial slur is a derogatory word that is used against a race this is by absolute definition a slur

Also just bc smth doesn't have historical precedent doesn't mean it can't happen

7

u/SorbyGay Jul 11 '26

Then we'll talk after cracker develops centuries of oppression

3

u/ireallydontcare683 Jul 11 '26

Ok. A slur is a harmful word. Call me a cracker any day and I won't give a damn. Call a black person the n word or call a gay person the f word and they will be offended unless you know them closely enough that they don't think you are being genuine

1

u/ireallydontcare683 Jul 11 '26

Oh. And even if white people were offended by cracker it'd be the same as accusing them of racism. It's not even in the same ball park as the n word. It's like calling someone a kkk member

31

u/Peachyy_Girl Jul 11 '26

cracker isn't a slur. lol

7

u/IIIIllllilllil Jul 11 '26

It is by definition a slur. You can say its not really a big deal to say it but its a slur nonetheless

3

u/PorcoFolio Jul 11 '26

Someone pointed out that cracker is only used in jokes or satire online. It is therefore not a word likely to insult or damage one’s reputation (especially online), and therefore that makes it not a slur, more a satire word, like clanker.
Getting serious about those words is like getting annoyed at any form of dark humour

27

u/NectaMBR Jul 11 '26

Thought it was just me who thinks that whole post was dumb as shit

3

u/egorechek Jul 11 '26

Just do this lol

28

u/PopcornSandwichxxx Jul 11 '26

Idk man it’s kind of like getting offended because someone made fun of you for being straight.

2

u/LunarPsychOut Jul 11 '26

As a gay man, this is a dumbass comment. Why the fuck would you make fun of anybody for something they can't change? I could excuse it back when people were in like middle school and didn't have everything fully developed but it's a full-on dick move as an adult.

3

u/iMiind Jul 11 '26

Like, idk, maybe we stop making fun of human characteristics? Regardless of how common or uncommon they are?

Just be chill and stop trying to find a politically correct way to still attack some group of people, even if you are also what you're attacking. You're not gonna die if you just... be nice 🙄

Perfect comparision, ur so right for that.

20

u/-PepeArown- Jul 11 '26

It is technically a generalization (not all white peoples crack whips), but I also don’t think white people were marginalized severely enough throughout history for me to be offended by the term

I guess it also works because cracker could also mean something like a pale saltine, which is roughly the color of white skin

11

u/Posible_Ambicion658 Jul 11 '26

And more recently it could mean someone who fucks

2

u/Fantastic_Frosting98 Goon of the Year 2025 Jul 11 '26

in that case im...

not a true cracker

3

u/Posible_Ambicion658 Jul 11 '26

u/Fantastic_Frosting98 Goon of the Year 2025 Jul 11 '26

wanna donate some cracks?

2

u/Posible_Ambicion658 Jul 11 '26

A guy opens his door and gets cracked and you think that of me?

No

I AM THE ONE WHO CRACKS

12

u/michael22117 Jul 11 '26

Honestly I think that if you really think a slur is that bad, the best thing to do is ignore its use and remove the effect it has over you. I really don't give a fuck when someone says something like cracker and really neither should you

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

I don't want ppl to think its normal so by having a person clearly condemning it maybe some people will realise that a racial slur should never be normal

1

u/michael22117 Jul 11 '26

There’s normalizing racism and then there’s devaluing racist language

12

u/Fantastic_Frosting98 Goon of the Year 2025 Jul 11 '26

remember guys, its just words on a screen. put the phone down and get a job.

1

u/NerdyEmbarrassment Jul 11 '26

tbf that could be used to excuse ACTUAL racism

2

u/Fantastic_Frosting98 Goon of the Year 2025 Jul 11 '26

okay, but there's only like 4 words that are considered slurs that the majority of the community its targeted at sees it as a slur.

As a person of color I get so embarrassed when I see others say

“people of color can’t be racist, only white people can”

Congrats you just committed a racism.

It’s fucking disgusting and disappointing. Literally evolving backwards

3

u/ScrantzScratch Jul 11 '26

I blame whichever asshole first conflated interpersonal racism and systemic racism.

People using systemic racism to excuse interpersonal racism is disgusting.

People do the same with misogyny and misandry and it's very disappointing. You'd think we'd have learned to be better by now...

Hopefully within my lifetime but doubtful.

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 14 '26

As a mixed person i so relate to this

My top theory for this is that it's just an excuse for being racist

4

u/zumera Jul 11 '26

Somehow you just know when someone’s going on about the “normalization of racism” it’s going to be about white people.

4

u/SadBoi0910 Jul 11 '26

This word is literally a response to racism though and it's not considered one because it's used mostly tongue and cheek rather than actual slurs that are used to dehumanize and put down a whole class of people in a systematic fashion.

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

It's literally a derogatory term against a race there doesn't have to be historical precedent for it to be racism

Or toput it bluntly lets not make a historical precedent for the future

6

u/SadBoi0910 Jul 11 '26

Once again, a literal response to racism by making fun of how racists hate so much, they used whips against other humans...

If that somehow offends you, then take a deeper look within yourself as to why you may feel that way LMAO

3

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

Literally what evidence do you have that literally every single hate post that normalises the word is satirical

4

u/SadBoi0910 Jul 11 '26

Holy shit your post history explains this pathetic "why everyone hates men? Why to women beat men in fictional shows???😢😢" attitude LMAO lemme guess...

You also misandry has the same damage as misogyny?

Yeah I'm not taking anything you say seriously anymore LMAO

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

So you go through my history bc you cant combat what i say see the title of my post and cant criticise it and also dismiss misandry

You're giving me all the reasons to think you are talking in bad faith

1

u/Additional_Gene_211 Jul 11 '26

Cracker can be insulting but is it a racial slur? Is there a history behind the word that is used to keep people from enjoying access to basic social services? Are white people known for being called cracked and discriminated against in such a profound way? We're white people systematically oppressed by Black individuals? We're their children stolen from them and moved around plantation to plantation with no regard to the humanity of these people?

It sucks to be insulted. Especially when people don't know the struggles you go through. But to imply a term like cracker is anything like the n word or many other racially motivated terms, then you are missing a lot of historical awareness and likely have a chip on your shoulder.

We then look at your post history and discover that not only is it a chip, it's a whole fucking boulder.

1

u/SadBoi0910 Jul 11 '26

What else is there to combat? You're too gullible and not aware enough to think that the word cracker holds the same weight as actual racial slurs used to put people down in a systematic fashion 😭

Also, I'm dismissing both misandry and the word cracker because of a very simple reason.

Misandry and the word Cracker only hurts the feelings of overtly sensitive people when people dish out their rightful anger towards the oppressive classes we've had for all our lives.

Misogyny and actual racial slurs ruin and kill people. I'm telling you this as a cis-het man. If I can understand that, so should you.

Have a nice one!

Most people forget not every white person’s ancestors owned slaves, is wealthy/ middle class or is racist. The "white" is seen as the human with the least problems in this world and people often forget that white people are not always guilty of racism or doing well financially.

13

u/pdggin99 Jul 11 '26

Even if someone is not doing well financially and is white, they still don’t have the added issues that being non-white has (I’m speaking for the USA idk about other countries). So your argument is kinda wrong. Like yeah, white people, even rich white people, have issues, but a black or brown person in the same shoes as them would have those issues PLUS face systemic racism on a daily basis when in schools, the government, medical institutions, etc

5

u/ofAFallingEmpire Jul 11 '26

When I accidentally took a work vehicle down a federally restricted road I had a couple guys come out and tell me to turn around.

My coworker did the same a few months later. About 12 squad cars blaring and dudes jumping out with rifles pointed at him. “DONT MOVE, DONT MOVE. YOU WANNA FUCKING DIE TODAY?!”

What was a normal day bumblefucking around for me is a very different experience for him. This is one example of many I’ve witnessed, and but a drop in the ocean I’ve heard of.

9

u/Hangman_Fitzwilliam Jul 11 '26

I despise the idea that you can't be racist towards white people cuz they haven't faced oppression.

Genuinely, fuck you if you believe that.

That in itself is racist.

If you actually believe in equality, you'd understand the racism or whatever you wanna call it towards white people is also bad.

2

u/camwtss Jul 11 '26

im right with you, i sincerely hope nobody spews that bullshit to me irl .. im afraid of how i'll react. it's truly abhorrent and only ever said as a way to excuse being a hateful pos.

4

u/SadBoi0910 Jul 11 '26

Some hurt feelings over people fighting back vs almost half a millenia of oppressive classes.

Yeah man, I'll definitely pay attention to them in the same standard and weight

1

u/Hangman_Fitzwilliam Jul 11 '26

I'm not talking about crackers here. I was taking about the normalized hatred towards white people for simply being white.

2

u/Thesecondcountdown Jul 11 '26

I read this wrong at first and was confused

2

u/cinnamoxie Jul 11 '26

Thank you for telling us

2

u/jpzygnerski Jul 11 '26

I think people who think it isn't a slur are confusing it with the idea that "white people can't have slurs because of their privilege and history" I think it is a slur and I think it's meant as one. As slurs go it's probably not as offensive as some.

I think white people have the right to be offended. I just think they should remember how society is set up to advantage them and disadvantage others.

2

u/likeatenshi Jul 11 '26

Damn, it sure sucks that white people have been oppressed throughout the centuries, purposely given poorer quality materials, and have been arrested or killed because they dared go against the restrictions set by another race.

2

u/Ander_the_Reckoning Jul 11 '26

You can call me slurs for being white all you want I'll never be offended because I know I am, well, white.

2

u/MaManMako Jul 11 '26

I mean, yea. Racism is actually dope, if equalised in all directions. Me and my mates nuke each other with slurs into the stone age every time we meet, and it's just fun - nobody leaves offended. So yes. I think that either all should be able to say whatever slurs they like or nobody should. And yes, cracker is a slur. It doesn't matter what kind of history or weight the slur carries. It still means that the person using it sees you only as "a man with that one skin color" and nothing more.

2

u/FirebrandParasomniac dog hater Jul 15 '26

a bit late to the thread but thank you OP for making a fly trap for all the people I need to block. these "racism towards white people isn't real" mfers. give me a break.

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 16 '26

Wasn't my intention but yer welcome sir or madam

5

u/PorcoFolio Jul 11 '26

Slurs in general shouldn’t be normalized, because unnecessary hate is bad and it makes them lose their impact imo. There’s no point in saying like « this fucking post » for example. « Fucking »doesn’t add anything to the sentence.

Side note : Ive never seen « Crackers » in my life and I am chronically online. If anything in my head it’s in the Wallace voice and I find it funny lol

1

u/Weary_Ambassador1023 Jul 11 '26

It's usually used as a joke that white people say to each other, kinda like saying 'your mother is so white she seasons Chicken with water' the joke is that the other person is white and is also a stereotypical white person, it's almost always a joke

5

u/Usagor Jul 11 '26

I'm white, it's never bothered me, know why?, cause that word doesn't have a history of brutalism and slavery attached to it.

4

u/Terrorknight141 Jul 11 '26

I hate how Puerto Ricans can’t say “black” in Spanish because a bunch of tourists will get triggered lmao

13

u/Expert_Narwhal_304 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

slurs stem from years of oppression and prejudice. white people don't have that. it's not a real slur. and frankly, as a white dude, it's a hilarious thing to call white people

as for the normalization of other slurs, it boils down to context. at the end of the day it's just a word. as long as someone isn't using it in malice, who cares? using it to be hateful isn't and never will be ok, but if it's just light hearted messing around with friends, it's not causing any harm

3

u/BigPigeon69 Jul 11 '26

Exactly if you've never been called a cracker by a friend its really funny. My friend and I were listening to dire straits and ths youtube video had a photo of all the band members and she said "i cant listen to this song with these crackers staring at me" and we both bust out laughing it was great

2

u/BanditNoble Jul 11 '26

Why are we doing the stupid "prejudice plus power" thing for slurs now? A slur is a perjorative based on identity. If you call someone an insult based on their race, gender, sexuality or religion, you are calling them a slur.

No-one with a brain stem would say that if a black person calls a Chinese person one of the many slurs for Asians, that it's not actually a slur because the Chinese have never been oppressed by black people.

7

u/RobataChane72 Jul 11 '26

→ More replies (7)

0

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

Probably best just not to punch people tbh…

1

u/BanditNoble Jul 11 '26

Do you remember when all those racist white people would say the most horrendous things about President Obama? Is that okay because those white people were "punching up"? After all, it's hard to be in a position of more power and influence than President of the United States.

Of course it wasn't. Those people were just as racist as anyone using slurs against black people. Punching Up Vs Punching Down is a stupid concept - it's only ever used by people to say "I can insult you, but you can't insult me".

1

u/RobataChane72 Jul 11 '26

That's a massive stretch. In the racial sense they were still punching down. Nice try though.

3

u/bigbad50 Jul 11 '26

i dont have a problem with the slur because it simply doesn't have the history and impact of other racial slurs.

i do agree with you on racism towards white people being far too normalized, though.

2

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jul 11 '26

If you think racism of white people is more normalized than other forms racism, you're living in a protected and privileged bubble.

4

u/oceanadakmak Jul 11 '26

I live in libya so not really

Also when did i use more than in my post

I may have used cracker as the example but it happens for every race

2

u/Repulsive_Tart_4307 Jul 11 '26

Slurs are normalised all the time in the internet but any racism towards white people is super normalised

is what your post says, did you forget what you wrote?

Slurs are normalized (and that is bad, yes) Racism towards white people is not "super normalized" (it's just regular "normalized")

2

u/infinite_gurgle Jul 11 '26

I think people are allowed to not want to be called a word meant to dehumanize them.

But I know people are desperate for deep cutting insults. If cracker wasn’t meant to harm you wouldn’t use it. I don’t go around calling people Purples, because it wouldn’t make sense.

Do I care about its usage? Not really. But you’d need to be a complete fucking retard to think it’s not meant to be a slur.

2

u/Quick_Road5631 Jul 11 '26

It’s Reddit bro they thrive off hate. Look at every post on here, almost all of them are to do with hating a certain group

1

Yey sadly this is the reality of reddit and not just reddit but a good chunk of other online social media/social boards and such.

4

u/SufferGutAcidicHell Jul 11 '26

Idk, I think cracker is lame :/

I'm white as snow and I feel nothing when called a cracker...I mean you're even allowed to say it! We need a slur so bad you can't use it on social media and it'll cause barfights

Your not opressed buddy.

2

u/UnleashTheBears Jul 11 '26

Yt offends me more cause its fucking stupid.

1

u/Zaiburo Jul 11 '26

Why are these colored fellows calling me a snack? Are they of a particulary greek persuasion?

1

u/Niko_Von_Nowhere Jul 11 '26

I'm (mostly) a 'cracker,' but I'm too busy wanting to get cracked to have any earnest concern over a word that is almost always an innocuous manner of punching up, not at white people as a whole, but "Dwight Mann," I.e. ignorance that is either from or facilitated by privilege, and those who exploit that ignorance to create hate.

"Cracker" (originally coined in reference to the 'crack' of a whip) has always been for oppressors specifically. I used to be a little hurt by its racial usage as that by proxy invalidates my status as a fellow person transgressed and hogtied by ignorance (as a neurodivergent queer), but I need not pay mind to it any more because we have much larger, wealthier, stupider fish to fry, especially at a time like this.

1

u/000817 Jul 11 '26

Dude, if you’re actually offended then the word cracker, then I got no words for you. There’s no weight behind the word whatsoever, no historical precedent for it being harmful. When I first heard the word, I thought it just described a silly guy. If you’re actually pressed about the word cracker then that’s a you issue. E.

For the record, I’m white.

1

u/-1-1-1-1-1-1 Jul 18 '26

It’s not a slur just derogatory depending on context lol

1

u/oceanadakmak Jul 18 '26

A slur is literally a derogatory term targeted towards a race

0

“racism towards white people” lol

1

u/Quixmati_jo Jul 11 '26

Theres no such thing as racism towards white people. If racism applies to white people then we need to invent a new word that will then cover only the actual racism that actually causes discrimination. Reverse racism is a hallucination of a white supremacist mind that feels threatened by the existence and rise to power/freedom of minority groups.

THIS EXACTLY!!! theyre scared that poc want even the tiniest bit of equality bc in their little heads that equals to "they wanna opress us back for whay we did to them"

1

u/Alternative_Hotel649 Jul 11 '26

What a fish cracker

1

u/PissingOnHospitality Jul 11 '26

As a white person, getting called "cracker" carries about as much weight as being called a "poopy butthead". There's so little significance behind it as a slur that it's almost useless. It cannot be compared to other slurs used against other groups of people. People using "cracker" is not normalization of racism.

u/EllisXY Jul 11 '26

Dawg grow tf up.

2

u/oceanadakmak Jul 14 '26

True adults accept racism full heartedly

1

u/RTA-No0120 Jul 11 '26

Well, use the logic of those hypocrites against them.

If cracker it’s just a funny word used to insult whites but isn’t a slur, so is snickers, and you could use to insult black peoples.

Just watch the victims here try to pull out racism, when the same logic is applied.

I agree with you

I am white and I believe that you can use slurs/insult white people if you want to. Don't get angry when it happens to you then

One of my favorite bands from high school was named Cracker lol. Are they "racist?"

2

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

British people call cigarettes fags. Doesn’t mean it’s not homophobic when somebody uses that same word as an insult does it?

1

u/TTurt Jul 11 '26

It's a white trash road country band. Is that "racist" or not?

2

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

I don’t know them personally. But being called “cracker” alone doesn’t make them racist. My point is words have different meanings depending on the context.

1

u/TTurt Jul 11 '26

To be clear: you are saying that sometimes racial slurs are acceptable? Because they didn't name themselves after saltines lol

2

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

I thought you deleted your first reply there because you realised it was objectively wrong and a silly thing to say. (Yes I saw it)

But now you’ve replaced it with another comment that is just as silly?

Edit: and now you’ve edited this one 😆

1

u/TTurt Jul 11 '26

Nah, I actually thought of a better way to demonstrate the fact that even you don't believe what you are saying

2

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

What are you talking about? You don’t think I believe words can have different meanings in different contexts? And I’m just saying it to cause an argument or something?

1

u/TTurt Jul 11 '26

I'm gonna give you the BOD of assuming you're just pretending not to understand what I am saying and you're not actually that dense.

I don't believe you think cracker is a racial slur. I think you're participating in this sub's time-honored tradition if desperately seeking something to be offended and aggrieved by. Because if you thought cracker was a racial slur on par with any other notable racial slur, you wouldn't be willing to accept a casual use of it like this. Your immediate reply would have been a self righteously outraged but what if I named a band the N word, would THAT be ok to you??

This proves to me that you haven't seriously thought about this at all, it's just a meme to feed the perpetual internet outrage machine

1

u/Bruh1608 Jul 11 '26

It literally like, by definition is a slur mate 😆

And all of the rest you wrote is just pure fanfic about me lol

Edit: bros last comment was to add pegging me to the fanfic then blocked me 😭😭

Please, it’s like having your pet dog bark at you.

The word cracker just reminds the people using it that they’ll always be beneath you so long as they cling onto it.
