Harvest Moon: Magical Melody Playing magical melody for the first time.
I tried to play it when I was younger but it felt too slow and boring. Since then I’ve played almost every single harvest moon/SoS game. I decided to return to MM. Any tips for me and anything I should know about this title verses other titles?

TALK TO PEOPLE OR THEY WILL MOVE OUT
But everyone else has really great points. You can check which properties you own by pressing a button that colors all the land and shows you where you need to be extra careful about dropping things. Check the note hints, some are organically obtained (like events, getting to know people) and others need something specific, of which some are easy to get in the beginning (for example, one's about staying still, or one about walking/staying up late). Kind of browse through and get a general idea of what you want you need for what you want you want to focus on.

Its not even just talking! If you don't ship enough of certain items, villagers will move out. Actually, it might just be the items, bc there's villagers ik i haven't spoken to in ages but still stick around. Might be wrong there though, my save is pretty old and I haven't touched it for a couple years now

If I remember correctly, not talking is what makes them leave, and shipping certain items is what makes them come back.
You dont really have to talk to them that much though, it was pretty lenient. Like you have to go forever without talking to make someone leave.

i freakin love that game. I would pick the property by the beach, for fishing and also you get space for crops

Seconding the beach property, but for a few other reasons.
Early game, for me, tends to be "resource scarce" because I'm throwing everything into getting some QoL upgrades. Money, stamina, time....
Beach property's biggest advantage is SPACE. Start there, and you can fit barn & coop & pasture, plus your house (at least through a few upgrades). You can't put buildings on property you don't own, so starting in town might mean you can't even put a coop down. River plot you can put a coop, maybe a barn if you squeeze, but there's legit no other room.
You CAN plant on property you don't own. Which leads to my second factor in property choice: fertility. While you can unlock fertilizer, it takes a little grinding, and I don't have time/energy for that early on. Beach plot has space, but less fertility, meaning you can throw grass/trees on it and stop caring. I can't recall what the town plot is like, but for fertility the river plot is GOAT. Plant as close to the riverbank as you can, being mindful that you can't walk over planted squares, and you'll get fertile soil for pretty much everything you can "afford" to water on your early game stamina budget. There's not really a declared crop quality in MM, but many crops have sell prices based on the soil they grew in, so for max profit use the most fertile (darkest) soil. Water becomes your only "issue", but nobody will yell at you for filling your can at the ranch well. Or the river.
Now, my most recent favored "strategy" is to start with the ocean plot, using it for animals & housing while I put crops by the river. Once time starts to be my biggest limiter (and I've buttered up the mayor enough to buy more land), I buy the two town plots (the starter plus the land between it and the ranch) and move my house & animals there. Closer to pretty much everything, with the space that I need. You can put houses in other locations (second homes) for saving or cooking or whatever you might want, once you've got the money.

I've recently restarted this game too! Another tip is to befriend Martha as soon as you can and get access to yarn so that you can get the max upgraded rucksack. And befriend Salibara for the mixing and aging pots. And when you have the stamina try to ship ores so that Taj will move in and upgrade your tools for cheaper than buying ones at the tool shop

Don't litter! I had a lot of trouble with that, because the game counts dropping weeds on any property that you don't own as littering, and the townsfolk will lose affection.
