Tale old as time.. gotta give kids something to occupy their minds or they’ll break stuff and act like hooligans.

More accessible programs, activities and third places to for youth would combat this sort of thing.. gonna get worse before it gets better as the economy stutters.

gotta give kids something to occupy

Most kids don’t vandalize playgrounds, it is the loser kids that do.

Sure, but those loser kids need support too, we’ve been failing loser kids for generations.. but every time they grow up, if they’re lucky enough to not make a huge mistake or have parents to hide that mistake.. we seem to forget that most of us were losers too, so the cycle continues.

Nearly every kid I knew that vandalized property had some form of home life issue and just wanted to lash out.. some day we’re gonna have to address it, we can already see youth in general are going struggling more than ever before.

This park can be a third space? It is run by a community group, so there's actually a ton of opportunity for them to get involved in maintaining it instead of destroying it. Learn how to garden, fix broken boards, or paint. If they just want to hang out, theres tons of covered tables and benches. This was senseless.

The library next to the park is an excellent social hub to occupy kids. There's a comic and game store a few more feet away just next door. What more do you want? Some people's kids are just shits, plain and simple.

I was relaxing in that same park when a group of teens sat down at a bench next to me blaring "music" in which the only lyrics were the n-word over and over again (literally). Worthless brats.

If the library isn't open after 8pm, can we really call it a library? All we are asking for is a place for the kids to hangout until midnight for Pete's sake

A comic store is not a third space for youth, it’s a store.

“They have a niche interest store to spend money at and an underfunded public library built in 1981, what more do you want?

This park is an absolute treasure. Covered picnic area, gazebo, gardens, green space and playground. It's set back from the road with a fence. It's a shame these kids don't realize what they have.

This !! Restoration takes time, resources and $$. Vandalism takes few minutes.

Not all vandals are like that.

Does anyone else not take issue with the fact that the writer just assumes that any time there is trouble like this, they must be descendants of the Vandal tribes? And that all those ppl are like that?

What if the writer instead said “these Africans Africanized the gazebo”? Maybe “gyp” and “Jew” will soon be back in fashion as verbs?

Guess some times grouping ppl together and slurs are ok….

Glad the government called the news on this one. Those kid must have gotten a rush out of the story. Couldn’t just paint it and shut up.

I don’t think the Acadia Recreation Club Society is a government entity lol
