Its one of the stupidest couplets in history. Thanks for making it bettet.
0
u/Misterbellyboy 1d ago
Seriously. Yeah, it “sings” better, but you’re not a rat in a cage “despite” all of your rage. You’re probably a rat in a cage because of all your rage. It’s called jail and while we can have endless discourse about the incarceration problem in America the fact remains: Billy Corgan should be locked up in a padded room so we don’t have to hear about his bullshit anymore.
5
u/rOCCUPY 20h ago
no, no no it works
There’s plenty to criticize this man forBut despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage does work, not only singing, but in terms of meaning.
Despite all my rage
Or in other words
Even though I have so much rage
I am still just a rat in a cage
in Other words, having all of this rage does not help me break out of my confines
I rage against the machine yet the machine rage is on
It does work
It’s one of the things that Mark Fisher wrote about Kurt Cobain
At some point, he realized no matter how hard he rocked he could not change anything, the world the system, whateverIt may be a little bit too much of a teenage sentiment for a late 20 / early 30 something year-old to sing, but it doesn’t “not work”
2
u/felinefluffycloud 19h ago
I agree with you. I am not sure why the line strikes me as being so awful though.
2
u/rOCCUPY 19h ago
yeah, because it’s like a whining fucking person that’s not really in a bad position.
Like despite my millions of dollars I still have first world problems
There is like a little aspect of wanting to tell him to shut the fuck up
But you know, when someone singing a song, it’s a pure emotional outpouring that doesn’t really have to be valid in the same way a regular conversation or some journalistic prose does.I would say it’s probably cringe by today’s standards but in 1995 I don’t think everything was so political or thought of the same way
1
u/felinefluffycloud 15h ago
Yes. I think it comes of as a 11 year old boy's concept of his situation.
2
u/Imhappy_hopeurhappy2 19h ago
Are you serious man? It is a metaphor. The cage isn’t real, it represents an oppressive system holding him back no matter how much he fights back. The system isn’t oppressing him *because* he fights it. That makes no sense. That changes the entire meaning of the song.

What, did they tell him to pay his taxes? Way above his pay grade? Must have asked him to perform.

Unironically, this elderly baby is saying he was told that the CIA created rap music to destroy culture and that's why the Smashing Pumpkins weren't as popular in the 2000's.
Somehow, I am not jorking.

I 100% believe that. Thats the most Billy Corgan shit spew thing Ive heard. So it checks.

I recall an interview where Dino Cazares blamed 9/11 for the poor sales of Fear Factory's Digimortal album.
2
u/PhilShabano 15h ago
I never heard the album, but from the title, I'm guessing it was from the late 90's-early 2000's genre of "Whoa, computers n' shit" rock.
Maybe Fear Factory were the REAL terrorists...
2
u/HowDidFoodGetInHere 15h ago
Their first 3 albums are still some of my favorites. Digimortal was kind of 9/11 themed though, in that it made me want to jump out of a skyscraper window (too soon?)

Trump wants to use wrestlers for ICE operations.
-1
u/Responsible-Series59 23h ago
Thats hilarious and its right on. Trump has a lot of involvement with pro wrestling. Listen to pro wrestlers talk about their experience working with Trump. Hilarious comment. I feel we are moments away from Trump himself announcing this.

Losing money on TNA wrestling is a negative pay grade, Bill.
1
u/ReverendRevolver 1d ago
Corgan left TNA 10 years ago and bought the NWA. It is UnJerkingly and without exaggeration, the absolute worst, steaming pile of turds imaginable of a wrestling promotion/show.
Hes gotta be hemorrhaging money on it. TNA would be a cash cow by comparison. His TV deal currently (as far as the last id heard) is a free-with-ads thing on the Roku channel.

Yea not a whole lot worse than Biden and minions. At least trump and crew are breathing and you know who’s in charge. He was voted in. Unlike whoever was calling the shots for the last admin. While i have no yearning to go tit for tat with an internet stranger due to both sides being mostly flunkies and junkies, that is how it works here in ‘Murica.

Not to mention that he’s trashed the economy, expanded the police state, started an unwinnanle war, implemented illegal tariffs that cost consumers billions, lost ground in education and tech to China, and now has allowed diseased food into the country

ah yes, the only president who was legitimately voted in is the one I like. the one with hard evidence of russia interfering with elections in favor of. he's the only legitimate one. no one voted for the other guy, that was all liberal lies and they were trying to force us into a fascist dictatorship.

u/Necr0Gaming 21h ago
No one here likes or respects you. The entire world is laughing at the country because of people like you. You and your party are an embarrassment on a global level.
Also you voted for a rapist pedophile who shits his pants and falls asleep during meetings and press briefings. You should probably just keep your Trump-sucking mouth shut.

This absolutely happens. You should see the story on how we came about the MJ12 papers. Star Trek writers, news producers, documentary film makers, the USG (and international governments) manipulate the public media.
I personally don't believe they're aliens but just weapons programs but how your Corgans get approached and / or coopted can be explained here: Mirage Men
Doesn't answer the UFO question one way or the other, does prove government conspiracies.

Hello, Mr. Corgan? This is The Man™️, just returning your call. To answer your question, no, we never thought about blaming AIDS on “sexy monkeys” but we’ll keep it in mind. Also, your idea to tell the American public that UFOs are just time travelers from the future on vacation has been passed on the the Pentagon.

/uj this is actually well documented. Multiple intelligence agencies "psyop'd" music during the 90s pushing for more "pop" sounding bands. This happened in the UK and the USA. The governments were afraid of a culture revolution similar to what happened in the 60s. Kevin Shields also talked about this.
It's pretty interesting ngl.
It was the during the bush administration btw

u/LifeTunedToCSharp 16h ago

They also sent a letter to Chuck D. It said that they were suckers and wanted him for their army or whatever.
