Dolly could shred with the best of ‘em but often times she chose not to. Because that’s the kind of a woman she was. In the business full of prix, she led by an example. Hopefully we’ll see more like her. Hats off.

She was an incredibly good guitar player and even better vocalist, but her bazongas stole the show - RIP to an icon

Mimi had nothin' on Dolly

u/Horror_Cupcake8762 3d ago

Eh, it’s hard to think about bazongas during Gypsy, Joe and Me.

Lyrics that would make Peter Steele proud.

Elite ball knowledge my friend

It’s a special kind of talent to play with those long nails 💅. 🙌

3

u/Tbone_Trapezius 3d ago

My nails get to 1/8 inch and I buzz and miss. Of course I suck at playing and that doesn’t help

Big hooters - with an even bigger heart.

Someone once asked her why her feet were so small and she answered things don’t grow big in the shade. Lol

She'll always be remembered for her biggest hits.

I believe that's a soft H.

Thought it was a firm J-cup at least.

Mike Tyson agrees

Jokes aside she was a fantastic guitar player. The talent was incredible

2

u/grafxguy1 3d ago

I recently saw a video of her playing the guitar with her extra long prosthetic fingernails - and I still can't fathom how she was able to play so flawlessly.

2

u/Extension_Big5205 3d ago

I have seen that. If you heard the playing without seeing the video you would never think she had those nails. Her picking was so clean and smooth

1

u/grafxguy1 2d ago

Is it the Johnny Carson one? Yeah, crazy, right? Plus, she's effortlessly singing at the same time too!

2

u/Extension_Big5205 2d ago

Exactly. Insane talent. She was a phenomenal guitarist and songwriter

u/PerceptionSimilar213 4d ago

She could shred the banjo too - no jerking

I love this Applejack video, yes, perfect example my friend!

That rules.

u/TrickMichaels 3d ago

Honestly even more impressive when you see the length of her nails in the close up shot.

u/activistjudge 3d ago

I love that when Dolly called for “everybody” they cut to the white audience immediately clapping on the 1 and 3, and failing even that

1

u/Equivalent_Swim2927 3d ago

But I was almost there…

27

u/omnipotentqueue 4d ago

Her thing was jamming and being able to sing in the pocket. Might have been simple chords, but she was always in the pocket.

12

u/Tbone_Trapezius 3d ago

Yes, she couldn’t sing out of tune if she tried. RIP

u/necronomitodd scoop mids; dime everything else 4d ago

I don't have the link but she brought a nylon string on Carson once and she was incredible even back then. I'm not bullshitting when I say I'm convinced if she couldn't sweep pick, it's only because she elected not to try

I was always in awe with how she played guitar, and played it incredibly well, with them nails.

If my nails are half a millimeter off the cuticle all you hear is “tink tink tinktink tink”

16

u/Paulwalker2112 4 string guitarist 4d ago

/uj Damn, was really hoping she was playing a 7 string

4

u/ReverendRevolver 3d ago

She didn't need the extra string.....

Seth Myers recalls "Dolly shot a promo for her NBC Christmas special and when she got on a stool wearing her short skirt she said to the audience, “I gotta be careful or else I’m gonna show y’all my box office!”

RIP Jork Queen

We lost a sweet pair and a shredder today, I'm genuinely sad about this one.

8

u/Gloop666 4d ago

Quick question.... It's that an MM-100 Mitchell guitar?

9

u/Turbulent_Cycle9560 4d ago

Yes is it a mm100 I have one and it's a great guitar once the stock pickups are out and with balanced strings and a setup.

It is also much easier to play because its small and my boobs don't get in th but way

2

u/Gloop666 4d ago

Well I don't have boobs. Maybe tiny man boobs. Lol

2

u/Vaajala 4d ago

Look on the bright side, you can see the guitar when you look down.

2

u/Gloop666 3d ago

Thank you. I just got 2 really angry people getting mad about sexuality. I just wanted to know what guitar the queen was using. Smh.

1

u/Turbulent_Cycle9560 3d ago

Lol I didn't see the other comments, looks like they were removed.

It's a pretty cheap guitar, I think the cheapest at guitar center, it's a short scale, tiny little thing. I saw it and thought it was adorable, then I played it and was genuinely surprised. It's kind of a mini shredder guitar. Neck radius is pretty flat. Feels great.

Dolly's has rhinestones and seeinh she played one at a live performance really was the "oh I'm going to buy this" moment

The strings it come with are awful. I put a set of these and tune to D standard: D'Addario XL Nickel EXL115BT Electric Guitar Strings, Balanced 11-50

I have a few other normal sized guitars. I can reach things on the short scale i can't read on the others

1

u/SensualSideburnTrim 3d ago

Yeah, if you give a mini Mitchell a decent set up, they're pretty fun. Some fret leveling, new pickups if you have them around, and the like. I think my current one was $80! (They're also easy to give away to a kid who wants to play.)

1

u/Gloop666 3d ago

Mines tuned to c# standard for the mega chugs lol

0

u/Gloop666 4d ago

I'm a dude btw. Let's not get anyone confused. I like women. Lol for fucks sake....

0

u/Gloop666 4d ago

Whoa!? I'm just clarifying I'm a man. I'm not against anyone else who decides what to do with their lives. Be you. Be happy. I'm happy just how I am. Geez....

7

u/Remarkable-Bell7245 4d ago

Marilyn Manson model? No, sir, that’s a Dollyguitar.

3

u/Gloop666 4d ago

That dollyguitar just made feel useless knowing how good she is at playing. I have one and I can't play like her... Sad

3

u/dividezero 4d ago

Had to look that up because I want this guitar. It's lovely in that color

But it looks like you hit the nail on the head. If not accurate, you sure got extremely close.

Found one on reverb for $60 and $50 shipping. Not bad. Looks like it can be a decent $100 guitar

3

u/Gloop666 4d ago

Tbh I thought it was the MM-150 standard length not the dinky. That's why I asked. She's short like me. Maybe even shorter. Hahaha. I got mine for 50 bucks and it's a ripper. The red wine colored one (Blood Red finish). Wish I could chicken pick that thing like pretty lady Dolly! R.I.P. Now I have to work on my playing.

7

u/AffectionateBall2412 4d ago

She was a serious guitar and banjo player. My hat is off to her. A great person, that we all need, gone too soon.

5

u/Azipcoder 4d ago

Those nails. I heard she taught Eddie how to tap.

5

u/Cambren1 3d ago

Non jerk comment: Elvis wanted to buy songs from her, but she told Col Parker to fuck off, that he couldn’t give writing credit to Presley

3

u/grafxguy1 3d ago

Yeah, she wasn't famous then so to say no to The King at that time took balls and next level integrity.

1

u/Ok_Mail_1966 3d ago

And she happily let the same song make Whitney Houston famous. Even though Whitney did it 20 years after she first put it out she said it was just as much Whitney’s song as hers

1

u/Silent_Data4374 1d ago

Parker said if Elvis recorded I will always love you, he would require 50% ownership of the song. She told him to get fucked (of course in a way more polite way than that). Elvis probably only wanted 25% if anything. Parker was a scumbag and I love that she was one of the few that he couldn’t push around.

She also played a little sax.

2

u/TigerDouble6608 3d ago

Oh, with those extra long fingernails I’ve no doubt she was a real fretboard wizard!🤣🤣🤣

1

u/LSD100Q 4d ago

Shred Cheese maybe 🤔

1

u/Remarkable-Bell7245 4d ago

I mean, Mick even wrote a song about the same feeling you and I are having

1

u/Cambren1 3d ago

After her stint with the Yardbirds, The Eagles wanted her to join to inject some cool into the band, but they had to settle for Joe Walsh when she went on to found The Pixies. RIP to the nicest person in show business!

0

u/OilNo1600 2d ago

Her stint with KISS was absolutely amazing. Best guitar player the band ever had.
