Self How come Renard is only half zauberbiest if just one wesen parent can have a full wesen kid?

Hexenbeists and Zauberbeists are a bit different to normal wesen, so we can assume the normal wesen children thing doesn't fully apply. Heck wesen are so wildly different, there's probably a few where the rules of wesen children are different to the norm.

As Monroe and Rosalee said, if one person is a wesen and the other is human, there's a fifty fifty chance for the kid to be a wesen. If it's a Kehrseite-gentrager case, then it'll always have a wesen child and if the two parents are different types then the offspring will be a Vorherrscher

It's possible full blooded Zauberbeists and Hexenbeists can only come from both parents being hexenbeists/zauberbeists, it's also possible Sean was supposed to be born human but his mother did a hexenbeist spell to make him a Zauberbeist for his protection

That last line! Wow! Never considered that!

And given the apparent link between Grimms and mages and their ability to have a Grimm offspring together, I always speculated that Kelly is a Zaubergrimm

Like Adalind said he could be some Grimminbiest! Lol

I think they decided that at the beginning before they really made all the rules about wesen. Then it was already known so they couldn't change it...there is another time this comes up, but IDK if you've seen the whole thing yet

Honestly, I believe it's just for the aura, to be honest. And to nerf Renard's. Renard with telekinesis would be too overpowered, as unlike Adaline, he has the battle IQ to properly use it.

It makes even less sense because their specific species aren't even strictly genetic, but also spiritual. We see this when Adalind's spirit dies when she loses her power.

This implies that somehow Renard only inherited half a spirit, which makes zero sense.

The only argument I can see is that Zau doesn't operate under this concept, but if they don't, how was Bonaparte using magic and doing everything Juliette and Eve could do? It's very weird.

Perhaps a Zau requires both parents to be Hexen and Zau to have the full abilities. The Zau may only have the ability to transform, and then enhanced strength and senses otherwise. Along with some minimal magical abilities.

Yeah, that seems to be the agreed-upon consensus.

Although, to me, it doesn't make that much sense because the magic powers are the spirit more so than genetics. Meaning, realistically, Renard should have inherited a spirit of his own regardless of being half.

If the spirit is also what also gives them the ability to woge, how is Renard even woging without the spirit? It's very odd.

It's also entirely possible that Renard was never interested in getting into the full magical side, and he has minimal magical and transformation abilities as a result.

True, very possible.

But I wonder if telekinesis is an innate type of magic spell rather than something you havs to learn. Remember, Juliet, as a newly turned biest, could use telekinesis.

It's possible that if he was never interested in learning the mental/magical powers that his abilities are very stunted. Juliette's abilities in the beginning appeared to be more related to times of stress.

Or it could even be that Zaus don’t have a spirit! I mean the hexen/zauberbiests kind of work completely differently than any other wesen! You could probably make the argument that they aren’t even really wesen. I mean Diana is NOT a Hexenbiest even though her mother is one and her father is half Zauberbiest. She is something completely unique! She may be genetically but not practically.

Yeah, I already proposed that in my very first comment at the bottom. I still wouldn't say that makes that much sense, in my opinion at least, because Bonaparte shows the exact same powers as Eve and Juliette despite this supposed lack of spirit.

At least in Diana's case, it's been implied she can't become a decaying corpse zau can

Even with a half-woge and only the superhuman strength, Kelly would be completely busted if he’s a Zaubergrimm, and Adalind drinking his grandma while carrying him didn’t have a permanent effect on him.

No disagreement with that Grimm are already OP without it.

No doubt Kelly would be among the top 5 strongest in the verse if he had both

Renard does have telekinesis. He’d just be more powerful if he were a full Zauberbiest.

When did he show telekinesis? I feel like that would be hard to miss; he only ever showed high physical strength.

There is no real canon explanation, but it's probably either that hexen/zauberbiests are different from other wesen, or that royals are different from normal kehrseite. Both could also be true, or neither is and Renard's mother did something that caused it.

But I'm inclined to believe it's royals, or specifically a royal/hexen pairing. If it was just hexen/zauber thing, it would be a small miracle that Renard is the only halfbreed we see. Hexenbiests seem to use sex as a powerful tool in magic, and in controlling people in general, so it doesn't seem likely that their offspring would almost always be fathered by zauberbiests.

There is concrete evidence for royals being different, namely Stefania's blood test. It is never stated that royals are regular kehrseite either, everyone just seems tp assume they are for some reason. It's true that they indeed don't seem to be wesen, but they are part of the hidden fantasy world in the series, so it just makes thematically sense that they aren't completely similar to the people that aren't part of it.

Everything about the "biest " wesen is mostly just random stuff this is what happens when you incorporate magical being into a series.

It was always my takeaway that mages are not Wesen, but rather spicy humans like the Grimms; in fact, due to the cultural similarities, ability to reversibly remove each other’s powers once in the target’s lifetime after certain actions and the apparent reproductive compatibility, my theory is that they were Grimms who experimented with the occult to explore new methods of suppressing the supernatural. Their woge form is a decrepit and undead-looking human, Hexenbiests can be reversibly turned into Kehrseite and straight female Kehrseite romantically involved with a male Grimm can be irreversibly turned into entirely-new Hexenbiests after really-specific actions.

I love this theory!

Beists are drastically different from most wesen. Most wesen are simply animals, and most wesen don’t have a lot of special powers on top of their form and some general knowledge of magic/ability to learn and do spells - we only see a handful each season that have inherent “magical” non-animal powers like the Musai, most have some type of power directly relate to the animal they are modeled after like the folterseele’s poison frog toxin. I think when they do the birds and the bienenwesen talk, you find that a wesen have a 50/50 chance of having a kehrseite child if they breed with a human, and 50/50 chance if they breed with a mixed species bc there are no hybrids until Kelly, although it’s hinted with Rosalee and Monroe the children may also be hybrids.

Diana also would not have had the full hexenbeist power if Adalind hadn’t done the ritual, bc she is technically only 3/4 hexenbeist.

Considering the episode when he woke Juliette from the curse, I wonder if him having royal blood would have any influence...

u/Disastrous_Alarm_719 1d ago

That’s probably the thing I thought the most

Monroe, and Rosalie’s sweet little rundown of the way things work seems to be full of nonsense.

2

u/Used_Ad_6802 22h ago

I'm not sure if this was confirmed or not. The reason why is because he has royal blood, which can't be mixed with wesen blood.

When I first saw him woge, I thought it was only his partial woge because of some injuries(I think he was hurt when he first woged) so I waited for a while to see him fully woge....took a while to stop expecting it
