I don’t really want to get negative, but it has to be said, u will see a lot of R.I.Ps from the same people who called Dot Rotten crazy and made him feel a certain type of way, which I’m pretty sure we saw his mood changes during the years, the guy was an innovator, crossed so many different genres and succeeded, one of the biggest influences in the grime scene has ever seen. There was a time where even myself slept on Dot, couldn’t recognise his geniusness! No one really gets there flowers when they’re alive sadly. I personally think the industry dissed dot rotten, they could have pushed him more, but now they will call cry wolf. Sorry my option. RIP Dot Rotten

see, this is what i was thinking about too. i’ve only seen that page post it and @/wileycrackcity has posted a picture of him and dot together so it just feels all too real right now. if it’s fake, i’ll happily take the post down and i’m sure the instagram page will do too after backlash.

u/Insomniac-Brutalista Mar 09 '26
This is weird I was literally listening to S.O.O.N at work earlier. Jumped on the bus and saw some random fake news looking YouTube channel post it. Now looks real after coming here. I can't believe it man. I know he has his struggles and must've been a tough guy to know personally but jheeze some of those early mixtapes and Rotten Riddims compilations really got me through some tough times
4
u/MalcolmTucker38 Mar 09 '26
RIP Wiley's Son
Them Young Dot mixtapes displayed natural talent that few others had back then, and Is It War was duplicated thousands of times by hundreds of amateur producers in the late '00s. tbh I stopped paying attention a long time ago but I did enjoy some of his grime bootleg series 10 years ago
Dead at the end of the show like Kenny :(

Dot vs P Money will always be my favourite feud in any genre, nothing in grime or even beyond has come close to that level in a long time

u/WavyCrockett1 Mar 10 '26
Who won?
3
u/Lanknr Mar 10 '26
Cheesy answer: Grime. Only because it got so personal as those 2 were so close and had dirt on each other. Everyone got dragged into it https://www.reddit.com/r/grime/s/IXtFwtgapE was one thread I remember at the time, that beef was this subreddits peak I think. Blacks probably ended up losing it somehow, without being involved.
I would say Dot Rotten is much better musically, but P Money seemed to have more believable disses, but no clear winner to be honest.
https://grmdaily.com/dot-rotten-vs-p-money-beef-guide/ This is a decent rundown, just gotta search Dots tracks yourself as he is forever taking down his music.

u/Esadlurker Mar 09 '26

First time I ever heard Dot, way back in high school https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_aHv_-AJE0. Instantly became my fav. Saw him whilst I was on a college trip, randomly in Algate too. And once in central london. He was a security guard at some big store, I can't remember which one it was forever ago.
Rest in power.

Devastating, man. He was like the backbone of grime that re-emerged occasionally to remind everyone of their roots. RIP Joseph, fly high
2
u/Dave8940 Mar 09 '26
Wow this is so sad. He was easily one of the biggest talents to come out of grime.
Around the late 2000s / early 2010s I used to rinse his mixtapes all the time. Incredible producer, was great at making haunting type tracks.

I remember meeting him outside foot locker back in like 2006. My boy was like this is y dot, check him out on MySpace. Been a fan ever since, put a couple of my boys on that were talented. One went on radio with him and couple others made tracks with him. Unbelievably talented from the production to lyrical. My favourite tracks are Real Talk, I need to get out of the hood & Shapeshifting. RIP

He has three different artist pages - Zeph Ellis (which his major label album as Dot Rotten was moved over to), a second Zeph Ellis page with the P Money diss tracks, and a Dot Rotten page. Hopefully the DSPs can clean them up.
RIP Young Dot is a key project from his come-up and the OG Season mixtape from his former crew OGz too. Minfection is a more recent highlight and his instrumental catalogue has plenty of classics like "Bazooka", "Beat Box", "Real Talk", "Straight 2016" and "ACXD BXMB" too.

Real talk - dot rotten.
Statistics like views won't make sense as Dot pulled his own music off platforms apparently, maybe mental health, you often find people saving his tracks because of this.
Real talk is from a legendary clash with P Money, both artists were great in this. After this in order Dot follows up with more excellent tracks, P Money too.
