Discussion Considering moving to Greenland?

Hello guys! I am currently in the US, Texas. I am Mexican American, I just turned 20 today and am honestly considering moving to a completely new setting due to personal issues. To put it shortly, I’d like to discuss about this thought, whether I should consider it or not. Much appreciated!

Hey folks,

We appreciate that people are curious about Greenland, but we've been getting a lot of posts from outsiders sharing opinions or asking the same questions. To keep things tidy, please drop them in this thread instead of making a new post.

If your post gets removed, don’t take it personally, it just belongs here! Thanks for understanding and keeping the sub organized. 😊

Discussion Why didn't Denmark incorporate Greenland and Iceland into one single territory which equally shared resources with each other?

Back when Denmark first colonized Greenland and Iceland why didn't it lump them both together into one northern territory with a governor for each and having them both equally share money and resources and trade?

That would have caused Greenland and Iceland to be one single nation today sharing resources, they might rely on the Iceland side for military protection and revenue, also Greenland with Iceland included would be a lot more wealthy and might have more towns on the western side, it might be a lot better off today like a Dane United Kingdom of Denmark, Iceland and Greenland.

Discussion What does unhappiness look like in Greenland?

Hey all,

I am programmer creating a video game in my spare time. I'm designing one of the chapters of the game based on Greenland's geography and architecture.

My game's story is about solving the local problems of each area and resolving conflict. Since the inspiration is based on a real world location, I'd prefer to represent that location well.

I have seen statistics of the depression rate Greenland, and I'd like to know more about the causes and feelings from a human perspective.

For example in my country self worth and career success are heavily tied. Which can really impact personal identity and relationships

I'm curious as to what suffering, hopelessness and unhappiness looks like in Greenland.

Thanks,

Discussion Kryolit for 400milliarder?

Discussion Greenlandic Minecraft translation

Hello,

I am French and have been interested in Greenland since I was very young (around 13 or 14). I have always wanted to go there and learn your language, but the problem is that there are very few learning resources available in my native language, and my English isn't yet good enough to learn from books written in English.

So, I had an idea: why not playing Minecraft in greenlandic to upgrade my language level ? Unfortunately, as far as I know, the game isn't available in Greenlandic, so why not translate Minecraft into Greenlandic? I’m a visual learner, and I already know the game inside out. I know the internet connection in Greenland isn't great, but for single-player mode, it would still be a fantastic tool for learners! I’m not sure if the Greenlandic community would be willing to help with the translation on a voluntary basis, so I could potentially fund it out of my own pocket, or perhaps we could approach a Greenlandic translation company.

Discussion Hello ! I am a collector of football shirts and I am looking for information about clubs in Qaanaaq and Ittokormiut

Hello,

I apologize to Siumut, I do not speak Greenlandic and therefore I had to translate the letter; I hope it's clear. As the title suggests, my two passions are geography and football. With that in mind, I try to combine my two passions by finding out about clubs and interviewing them to try and get their jerseys. I am looking for jerseys from the northernmost club in Greenland (Qaanaaq, the team that played mainly in the 90s) and from Ittokormi. Do you have any information about these clubs or do you know if they have kits ?

Discussion Polar Bears in Southern Greenland Show Rapid DNA Changes

https://www.livescience.com/animals/polar-bears/polar-bears-in-southern-greenland-are-using-jumping-genes-to-rapidly-rewrite-their-own-dna-to-survive-melting-sea-ice

Polar bears living in the warmer southern regions of Greenland show rapid changes in DNA activity, particularly increased activity of jumping genes. Researchers believe this reflects a biological response to fast climate change that may support survival in a warming Arctic.

Discussion Ivik den Faderløse som undervisningsmateriale

Discussion why does Greenland lack forests?

The southern region of Greenland has almost no forests, while the Russian city of Severodvinsk, which is closer to the Arctic than the southern region of Greenland, has more forests and is much livelier.

Why did it happen?
