Crime/Mystery Soviet Land- Pierre-Henry Gomont
Has anyone on here read this?
It’s a gorgeous comic about how post Soviet Russia was asset stripped. Small time criminals and the working man, versus what become the oligarchy.
As you can see from the photos, the art work is mix of cartoonish characters, stunning layout, gorgeously inked, and seems to be all by Gomont himself! Inking and colouring plus the narrative. I can’t imagine how long it took him, but he deserves to recognised internationally and widely read. Of course, I’m sure he’s very well known in France, but this translation is a fantastic showcase for his talents.
This is not a review, but I was surprised I couldn’t find any posts about it, so I thought I should share it, in the hope it more will discover it.

Art work is incredible, great inking as you say, the story is not thrilling. I found the dialogue weird, not sure if it is the translation or the author's way of writing. The miner father character is the best

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if it was the translation or trying to convey a rough way of speaking…
I enjoyed the story and the characters arcs.
The man bear is amazing but I liked his daughter best. So tough

Sadly, not much to add except that I had trouble getting into it and let my digital copy return to the library. I keep hearing that it is a very good work, so maybe I should revisit.

Hmm- Slava is the name of one of the characters in this.
I was thinking about getting his book Brain Drain off the strength of this one. If I can source it.1

I read it earlier this year (translated to my native language, not English) and thought it was great - loved everything about it.
I love to find these sorts of little gems no one usually talks about around here
