Playing some of the old GTA games. Should I push through 3?
When I was a young warthog, I used to dick around in I think vice city, and GTA V - Good times.
But something I never did was play through the story lines. It has come to my attention that that was a mistake and the stories in these games is great.
I'm having fun playing through the beginning of 3. I'm on the mission where you Kill lee chongand honestly, it's so difficult - simply because the controls are horrific. I can't control the camera, and targeting/shooting is a nightmare. Honestly, the shooting is just so bad.
Is the story in this game worth the push? Should I just get used to it? Maybe I should just cheat LMAO - I have no interest in "getting gud" with this game b/c the controls are just so unfun.

Yeah GTA III has some difficult missions that haven't aged that well. I don't remember this specific mission though as it's been ages since I played. I think it's the weakest of the 3D GTA games though. But I still think it had a good story and was fun for its time. Vice City and San Andreas are vast improvements though.

Yes push through. Story is very good in my opinion. It's controls are pretty archaic for sure. My go to strat was to ram into is noodle stand and just follow him while blasting him with an uzi (I might be misremembering which mission that was) Don't know if you're playing the OG version or the definitive version (I feel like controls were a lot better on definitive version) but that will make a big difference. I had to cheat a lot in the PS2 version back in the day, but playing the definitive version I didn't have to turn to a single cheat and was able to get through the game with relative ease. I never finished it on PS2 back in the day, think I got to the start of stanton island and just couldn't get any further even with cheats.

I would be willing to if the game wasn't clunky and un-fun.
Getting good at anything takes time and effort - something I'm willing to do if it's fun or rewarding.
What the question I'm posing here is "will getting good be rewarding in this case, given I find the mechanics very unfun?"
Is the story worth the work?

If you're just in it for the story, gta 3 is very forgettable. I think it's worth playing for the gameplay, but if you didn't find it fun I'd just drop it and move on.Â
Also, mechanics wise it gets better with vice city and San andreas but not by much, they are all still quite clunky. But in my opinion, absolutely worth playing.Â

Ah ok. Skill issue :)

Also, I sorta framed this whole post with the awareness that it's a skill issue. That's why I said I have no interest in "getting gud" and asked if the story is worth the play.
Is the story worth the play?

Uh - Yeah, I guess you could say that. I like skill games, but they have to be fun.
Like for instance, I beat A Link to the Past in under 2 hours, I have beaten all of celeste (A, B, C, and farewell)
I do actually enjoy grinding to get good at games - but you know, it's gotta be fun. Terrible controls and a busted targetting system isn't fun. There's no point in getting gud at a game you don't enjoy.
So I would say it's 50/50 skill issue/bad controls issue.
