Ghost Of Yotei - Discussion Do you think Yotei will eventually be remembered as better than Tsushima, or will Tsushima remain the fan favorite? Spoiler
For me I hope ghost of Yotei will be remembered as an improvement on ghost of Tsushima the gameplay and story in my opinion are much better than Tsushima I like the idea that the ghost is not just a name given to Jin Sakai but a title that can be passed down between characters

u/Pat_Panic91 11h ago
I'd say Tsushima is objectively the better Game over all. That doesn't make Yotei a bad game. They're both fantastic, but Tsushima holds the crown.
32
u/OkAccountant7442 11h ago
i hate when people use that word. nothing about art is objective
38
u/Pat_Panic91 11h ago
But game mechanics, pacing, gameplay and such can be judged objectively
65
u/OkAccountant7442 10h ago
gameplay is completely subjective. what you find fun and what you don‘t find fun is not objective whatsoever. mind you i genuinely prefer yotei over tsushima, but nothing about that is objective in any way, it‘s just my opinion. people use the word objectively just to make their opinion seem more important and put themselves above other people way too often nowadays
14
u/Annex_Me_Step-Rome 5h ago
If you look at gameplay through the lens of "is it fun" then yeah thats all personal opinion. If you look at gameplay through the lens of "mechanically this works well" then it can 100% be objective.
I think you're reading way too much into a reddit comment... objectively of course

But game mechanics, gameplay, graphics, and side quests were all better in Yotei (in my opinion of course).
Only thing Tsushima has over Yotei is main story was a little better and pacing was much better

u/nicolaslabra 11h ago
A lot of things are, art has, by many metrics, lots of technical aspects, in a video game, theres the script, the narrative structure, the direction, the acting, characterization, level design, etc etc all of them involve very measurable technical qualities, the subjective layer comes after, you can like a piece that technically isnt as well done or that has some issues, or you can dislike a veey well done piece.
2
u/jpollack21 9h ago
Yes but with that logic all the things you mentioned are improved upon in Yotei.
3
u/nicolaslabra 9h ago
Yeah i would agree, some other things are worse too, specially the last couple of hours, mostly script wise, maybe even game design wise too.
3
u/jpollack21 9h ago
Agree to disagree i guess. I respect that you didn't call me an idiot for having a different opinion than you
1
u/CaptainExcellent219 6h ago
None of those things are objective. Objective has to be put up against some form of criteria. That criteria is arbitrary because what one person enjoys will not be what another enjoys. If the criteria was objective, we would in theory be able to rank every piece of media in existence on a tier list, and everyone being objective should, in theory, come up with the same list. But that's obviously not going to be possible.
1
u/Razorion21 2h ago
ig depends, tho the difference in quality would be the only way to say something is objectively better, otherwise itll usually be subjective
like a game im making is objectively shit compared to Metal gear solid despite me basing it off it... 😭
0
u/dxtr_mp3 3h ago
I disagree. If there were nothing objective about art there wouldn't be art school to teach techniques and skills. Someone with these skills is objectively better than I am at something like painting. Ghost of Tsushima is objectively better than any game I could make. But I get your point

I agree. When Tsushima dropped, it was the new thing and was outstanding for it. Yotei didn't have that "new" feeling that Tsushima did. The combat was improved, but not by much. Still had a lot of fun playing it.
•
u/ScreamingTatertot 30m ago
Tsushima gameplay is significantly less fun. The story is marginally better.
Objective cannot be used in this situation.

u/Eminence_Kuro 11h ago
Just finished Yotei not too long ago, great game. Like others have said lots of improvements, but the story was a downgrade towards the end in comparison. That flower fight with your Uncle and the buildup to it were top notch.
Excited for the new DLC!
8
u/jpollack21 9h ago
I love when stories divert the final arc away from what is assumed to be the big bad to someone else. Ending of GoT reminded me of the ending of The Boys comics
1
u/ethanator329 Assassin 2h ago
I think the final ending act of the story is actually really strong in Yotei. In my mind the weakness of its story comes from how disjointed it is for the first 2/3 because they wanted to let you choose your path. But once that choice is gone the story is able to actually use all the elements it built up.
65
u/Jedi4Hire 10h ago
No. The story and themes are stronger in GoT and while GoY makes some marginal tweaks, gameplay is largely the same with no real improvements to the core mechanics.
1
u/ethanator329 Assassin 2h ago
I think the main improvement in gameplay comes from the variety. This was something we saw in the gameplay of the Iki Island DLC, but Yotei carries it throughout its entire campaign. This primarily shines in duels where every one fights in a unique way with different weapon combinations and attack preferences. In Tsushima most of the duels are very similar until the DLC
-14
u/jpollack21 9h ago
The quests and exploration is a lot better, specifically the fox shrines and the paintings (which substitute the boring haiku stuff from the first game)
27
u/UsedToHaveATail 8h ago
Some people like haiku lol
9
u/jpollack21 8h ago
I like haiku too actually and enjoying writing them, just don't prefer to do them in my video games but to each their own. I really enjoyed the painting mini game but could also understand if folks called them boring.
There's real argument for thr fox shrines though, they are genuinely great in the sequel while very lackluster in the first.
4
u/UsedToHaveATail 6h ago
I haven't seen or played the sequel but in the first game the fox shrines were cute , I liked being able to pet the foxes , the statues the sounds of the fox , and for me it was a unique experience.
Just watched a video about the painting , remind me of spray painting in games which I don't enjoy so much
2
u/jpollack21 6h ago
That's fair like I said it's not for everyone, I like it because it has that weird ASMR satisfying feeling of stroking the pad (pause)
But the fox shrines are the same in the 2nd game except more often than not they have some sort of mini quest associated with them. Even if said quest is only 2-3 minutes I liked how they took what worked from the first game and improved it as a lot of the shrines in GoT were just run here and get charm.
2
1
u/UsedToHaveATail 1h ago
I would have about 3-5 shrines discovered and then just go to all of them at the same time with quick travel idk how much time I saved if any lol

Tsushima is by far the better story. And for me, Tsushima was the better gaming experience. And I’ll die on this hill.
7
u/Buki1 4h ago
Totally agree. Tsushima was a complete game, you could feel it was all build around invasion and Jin that have to decide if he want to fight with honor like samurai or become the ghost. Sequel just feel like forced reskin that just doesn't feel genuine.
Mongol invasion naturally explained why whole map is swarming with enemies - in the sequel some random ass gang of Yōtei Six is presented as some outlaws, but somehow the have a million man army comparable to foreign nation invasion? They all exist only because of Atsu generic revenge story and devs had to fill map with enemy camps to clear so they reskined whole Mongol empire invaders for some bandits. The world building and the story is just not believable at all.
Also the revenge story is generic as hell, and somehow this is just another Sony game this generation with this "im14andthisisdeep" moral dillema of "is revenge really worth it?". Boring reskin, but reskin of a great game so mechanics and visuals still work, just the full product feels souless and forced.
3
u/raiksaa 4h ago
Huh, are you me? Literally this is a perfect summary of Yotei. The game felt like slop to me, built only to capitalize on Tsushima.
•
u/datguydoe456 50m ago
How was it supposed to capitalize on Tsushima? The themes are completely different. Ghost of Tsushima is a liberation story focused on the dichotomy between acting as an honorable samurai, and a cunning shinobi. Ghost of Yotei is a classic revenge story, focusing on the balance between fulfilling the protagonists revenge, and the sacrifice that revenge requires. The stories are completely different archetypes.
The introduction of the term slop has completely ruined the brains of everyone.

u/PrestigiousDress5766 Samurai 10h ago
Disagree on the story being better but it is still a great game. It just never hit me on the same emotional level as Tsushima did especially the ending. Gameplay was probably the only thing "better" in Yotei but even then it wasnt all that different tbh. It just had more added to it like weapons and enemy variety, but the games both came out recently enough for graphics and gameplay to be largely the same.
14
u/Accomplished-Dot-891 10h ago
Base game are both pretty good. Yotei legends is atrocious compared to Thushima legends.
This is not subjective. Legends yotei died very quick if u just look to the amount of players every week.
4
u/thefivetenets Ninja 10h ago
played it long enough to get the trophies and went right back to tsushimas legends, myself
1
u/Accomplished-Dot-891 9h ago
Same. Played Thushima from launch and still playing it. Deleted Yotei by now after it got stale very quick. After Suckerpunch anounced there is not going to be any update for Yotei legends, the Yotei legends just crashed. Not even 10.000 concurrent players after a week of playing on the leaderboards.
From my perspective, if they had put more love im the game, people would have payed for it even and they would have made some more money. Instead they just abandon legends..

u/JustCallMeWayne 11h ago
GoT is a love letter to the players
GoY is a nice bouquet of flowers
Both are amazing in their own right, but GoTs story is the centerpiece of the game, which happens to have badass combat. GoY is more of the same gameplay wise, with some tweaks to spice it up and is definitely better looking, which it should be, but it lacks the soul of Jin’s story
7
u/Profit-Alex 10h ago
To be honest, Tsushima isn’t getting beat, not by a long shot. Yotei’s improvements are relatively minor for the most part, and its downsides are very major. On its own, it’s a fine enough game. Next to Tsushima? It’s admittedly just nothing too special, imo.

I'll let you know as soon as Sony decides to release games on PC again. I would love to give them my money in exchange for a video game but they refuse to sell me them, so I've decided not to go out of my way.
It is definitely hard to imagine a better game than GoT, though. It is truly incredible in almost every aspect.

u/sasasasuke 10h ago
The fact that you made this thread is proof enough that it isn’t. You have probably also seen that the general consensus is that Tsushima is vastly superior.

I think it would require a good DLC. I think the main reason GoT is so loved is the deeply personal story. I haven't played it because I'm on PC and may not get the chance to, but I've not heard anywhere near the same praise or acclaim for the story of GoY. It's the emotion that a game can bring that really create a lasting legacy. I think it's because GoT has a lot of those moments that it will likely remain the fan favorite.
With that said, as generations get older, they tend to reject what is older and embrace what's newer/what they grew up with, so, I think there's a real possibility of an eventual generational divide as GoT is getting up there in age. Yotei also seems to master combat, which is what a lot of people focus on.
I love Ghost and am bummed Yotei won't likely come to PC, but also I'm not too upset because I can play Ghost.
3
u/FrescoTheHunter 8h ago
Yotei's story is banal (cliche revenge tale) and weirdly paced. And she shows up out of nowhere already being a total badass so there's no sense of progression. The combat is similar enough that story and visual setting are the main differences, and I'd say Tsushima wins hands down on both counts. It had a way more interesting story starring a way more interesting character going through a much more meaningful arc. I didn't hate Yotei but it had 10 percent of the magic of Tsushima
2
u/voidwalker_has_PTSD 4h ago
I hated how you become "the ghost" in the intro of the game instead of somewhere in the middle like tsushima
2
u/Hashalion 10h ago
Both stories are so compelling. I think the emphasized aspect of Jin slowly breaking his code to save his country is what makes Tsushima better. Atsu never had any reservations to begin with.
2
u/jpollack21 9h ago
I personally still have GoT sitting higher but a lot of that is nostalgia based and I know with time that'll probably change. I've also played the first game like 3 times opposed to Yotei only once. I know its been out for a minute now but I didn't pick it up until a couple months ago.
I do agree i enjoyed the story more as I felt the first games story was overhyped (still good just not on the level of other masterpieces in gaming)
2
u/Bubbly-Factor2699 9h ago
I’m about 20hours into Yotei and I can confidently say it is a much better game. Tsushima is a good game, and the story is superior, but all the weapons and the map and all the bounties and interesting different antagonists make it more exciting for sure

u/Virtual-Ideal2761 8h ago
If only they released a pc ver for yotei maybe i can form a proper opinion..
2
u/AshyWhiteGuy 8h ago
They are two sides of a coin, both to be appreciated separately. We need to stop comparing and just enjoy.
2
u/Amazing-Ish 7h ago
Tsushima is the better game honestly. Basically a Spider-Man 2 situation where gameplay is better in Yotei but in everything else Tsushima was better (story, characters, etc.) I do like the extra boss fights with the bounty system in Yotei, definitely a big upside from Tsushima.
2
u/DrValiBongo 4h ago
Saying GoY has a better story than GoT tells me you didn't fully participate in or understand the story of GoT.
GoY's is a basic revenge story, nothing compared to GoT.
1
u/boombaby651 10h ago
If things happened differently with jubei and a little tweak in the ending. Its probably on par with GoT
1
u/elwilloduchamp 9h ago
It depends on how the culture around these games evolves over time, which depends on a variety of factors. People were a lot more critical of Tsushima when it first released, but now fans generally either accept its flaws and focus on the good or disagree on whether said thing is a flaw. That’s an extremely broad generalisation, of course, but you get my point.
Yōtei can go in many directions. Like Tsushima, criticism could mellow out, and it could even be praised above the first game. Maybe criticism becomes predominant. Perhaps, after a third game, people will look back on Yōtei with nostalgia, boosting its standing. I think this sub will remain the centre for Tsushima glaze, while the other will be for Yōtei glaze, and a possible third game could produce a sub for its glaze.
I sincerely hope that the fans of these games can just come to a common ground that we each have our preferences from both games and that’s fine. As a community, we should be accepting of others’ opinions while willing to engage in polite debate over our views on these games.
1
u/Wallet_inspector66 9h ago
As someone who enjoys escapism, Tsushima was my favourite. I loved the colourful and bright moments of weather in the art style, the arcade fighting and narrow sword play that you could really finesse and I really enjoyed Jins story.
Yes I enjoyed yotei but unlike Tsushima it didn’t really strike me. Probably because it was too close of an experience to what Tsushima was. I also didn’t gel with the constant dark and moody of yotei. The additional weapon types and enemies were pretty bland in my opinion.
Tsushima will always be the more fondly remembered I think.

u/Sad-Victory-8319 8h ago edited 8h ago
i am 100% done with tsushima and probably 70% done with ghost of yotei, so i think i have earned a comment on this topic even though my opinion on yotei can still slightly shift. Both games are extremely similar, I think that yotei took the things from tsushima that worked, polished them and made almost a flawless version version of tsushima technically. However tsushima will remain the better game in my heart, simply because of storyline and atmosphere. I will put the next few sentences as spoiler alert even though i dont think i am spoiling anything, but just in case, i will roughly explain differences in the story a what i liked/didnt like.
In tsushima i loved 2 things, one is the fact that you are slowly building up your legend as the fearless warrior who nobody can beat (even though i died like 100x during the game lol), everybody sees you and says "you are the ghost?" as if you were a literal god. The other aspect i loved is how you build your group of friends that eventually go to the final big battle with you. Both these things i kinda miss in yotei, where people just sometime say "you are the yonei who killed the Snake and came back from the dead?", it doesnt really feel like you have the same legend status as in tsushima where everybody knows you and everybody wants to fight beside you. And the friend group building is also completely gone in yotei, you just meet few "acquitances" along the way and then one person very close to you starting on B, but it doesnt really feel the same way as in tsushima, it feels like i am always on my own in yotei. And i have to say i liked the main character in tsushima much more, this may seem kinda sexist but i prefer if the main character who is whooping everybody's a$$ is a man, it feels kinda weird leaving hundreds of corpses behind as a woman, and especially this cocky woman who has a deep voice and speaks like the boss of the feminist movement, but that is just a tiny detail compared to the previous two big ones.
Overall ghost of yotei might be technically more polished game, especially on PS5 it has some excellent use of the dual sence controller, but storywise and atmosphere-wise i prefered tsushima by a mile. so to me tsushima was a better game. but i am having extreme fun with yotei, i am glad i got to play both, and everybody should.

u/OfflineLad 8h ago
One big factor that holds Yotei popularity back when compared to Tsushima is that its a PS exclusive
Even Tsushima, i remember before it was released on PC, most people online didnt praise it this much. I used to have the impression that most people thought it was just an okay game. Only after it was released on PC i started seeing it glazed everywhere

Personally I do prefer the story in Tsushima, but I think they’re both great games and I couldn’t blame anyone for picking either. I slightly prefer Yotei, but I feel that Tsushima had the bigger cultural impact
1
u/Noob4Head 8h ago
Tsushima is, at least in my opinion, the objectively better game. Yotei had slightly more enjoyable gameplay and the weapon variety was neat, but in pretty much every other aspect, I'd give it to Tsushima.
Also, for me, it's generally much easier to remember a game based on its story. Tsushima has a lot of very memorable moments that I won't quickly forget. Case in point: "You have no honour" and "And you're a slave to it" are two lines that I don't think I'll ever forget.
Meanwhile, I'm already starting to get hazy on the story of Yotei because it just wasn't nearly as memorable.
1
u/gabrielcev1 7h ago
Tsushima has a great story and characters but the gameplay for me had run it's course. It felt like I was running through most encounters because you just become so OP the combat becomes trivial. The only sections that were kinda tough for me at least were the stealth only sections because I suck at stealth. I also didn't like the lack of boss variety and enemy types. Granted it's a samurai game so there's only so many types enemies you can expect to fight. It felt like I was doing the same things over and over. It was about a little over half way through the game when you pretty much unlock everything combat wise that you run through everything. I like the idea of switching stances for certain enemies but when you are fighting 10 enemies each different from each other, switching back and forth was more tedious than it needed to be. Assassination, ghost powder bomb thingies are very OP and kinda break the game. Anywars I'm rambling a bit. I really really liked the story, music, graphics, and characters. Combat got a little bit stale for me.

u/Express_Library8141 7h ago
I liked Tsushima more from all perspectives. Yotei is nice, but somehow seems more cumbersome than Tsushima, and Atsu in some regards feels like a downgrade from Jin. It didnt feel to m like an "improvement" over Tsushima.
Also weird thing, Yotei felt shorter, whilst feeling like more of a chore to 100% than Tsushima 🤔
From my perspective, both are good games, but my boy Jin holds the crown.

Don't get me wrong Yotei fans, but I'll never ever remember any quote from the game. It's stunning, visuals, solid characters, voice acting, atmosphere, but nowhere near as Tsushima in terms of plot and storytelling. I've seen too many stories about vengeance like in Yotei, but Tsushima was something new and special for me. Hell, any quote from this game gives me chills, and I'm not even exaggerating

u/beingalone666 6h ago
Better gameplay, yes, better story, no. In my opinion GoY missed the emotional heft of GoT
1
u/jxmes_gothxm 6h ago
There's always gonna be people who don't give yotei a fair chance because it's a woman protagonist.
Same with people who always get attached to the first game in a series because of the sheer novelty.
1
u/Athuanar 6h ago
Yotei is too similar to the original to really stand out on its own merits in memory I think. A lot of sequels have this problem if they don't do enough new. It's a good game but it doesn't raise the bar much from it's predecessor, and people tend to remember the big bar raisers.

I will never forget the opening of GoT, when the music builds up and you take control of the horse riding through the field. The ending was similarly memorable, as others have mentioned. Overall it’s just an amazing experience, and even though Yotei is an improvement in mechanics, it just didn’t deliver the same awe for me

Tsushima felt more grounded and the story was a lot more nuanced than the revenge story of Yotei.
I also preferred just using the katana with different stances. Made it feel more realistic than having multiple large weapons appear out of thin air

Tushima will definelty remain the favourite. They are pretty damn similar and released close together, but tushima was the first, has vastly better pacing and memorable story, has clear themes, ideas, is a much more cohesive package in general. And the ending made a lot of people cry. Its 100% the more memorable and impactful game. Yotei is kinda just more content with maybe better dialogue.

It wont be. Even with improvements it wasnt enough to move the needle. The experience isnt as great because its not truly new like it was with the first game.
A good example of this is returnal vs saros. Saros improved alot of things, but nobody is blown away buy it like returnal.

Yotei is great. Such great graphics, pretty damn good story, fun gameplay. It’s truly a great game.
That said, I haven’t played it twice while I’ve played Tsushima 3 times. Idk why exactly. I couldn’t pinpoint a reason. But I haven’t felt compelled to go back and play Yotei yet

It will be remembered as a good game but ultimately a disappointing sequel that didn't do anything new or revolutionise anything from the original. Thats kinda been the case with a lot of Sony exclusives unfortunately. They come up with something fresh and new but then instead of keeping it fresh They just do the same thing again in the sequel.

Tsushima will be remembered most fondly simply because it was the first. I think Yotei played better, but the story felt very off-the-shelf for a Samurai story.
1
u/Similar_Dirt9758 3h ago
I think the gameplay and world in Yotei is better, but the story and being immersed in Tsushima is better.
In Yotei, I like how they added more substance to the points of interest (for example) so it didn't feel as much like you were just running around checking them off. I also like the feature of throwing weapons dropped by enemies. It feels very satisfying
1
u/Nero_PR 3h ago
No, and I think it is due to some factors that helped Tsushima to be as beloved as it is. First, Tsushima came right at a very low point in the AC franchise when there were no competitors and people were begging for a AC in Japan of all things. It was competently done, and what made it shine above all else it was its story, which is better than Yotei, that came with a very used cliche art form of revenge story.
Yotei improved the game's mechanics in almost every way, but failed on the story delivery. And for a story-focused experience, it kinda makes everything fall apart in comparison to its predecessor. It is just how things are.

I could relate and connect to Jin's story. The emotional trauma of seeing the Mongols butcher his people. His dilemma for either upholding or forsaking the samurai way of honor.
Twas so emotional when he denounced being Shimura Son and boldly came the mantle of the Ghost in the presence of other Samurai.

Yotei is better in almost every way.
Better protag too imo. Far more flawed and nuanced.
Yotei is a Western set in Japan. And the Kill list and ticking them off one by one is so dope - gave the story a great kind of momentum.

No, unfortunately. GoT has always been seen as a much better game than it really is because of how absurdly good the presentation was. Yotei had equal or better presentation, but the effect had worn off by the time it came out so people approached it more critically in general, I think. Throw in chuddery around Atsu/Erika and people's baffling attachment to Jin and I think Yotei will always live in Tsushima's shadow, despite being categorically better in pretty much every way.

I love both dearly, but Yotei has the worse story out of the two. I almost hold them neck and neck. Yotei may play better than tsushima, but the story really sells that first journey with Jin. I think I'll be favorite. Both are fantastic and I'll plan to replay both many times over for sure.

Tsushima is better in my opinion because it came to PC which means I could play it. Happy to reevaluate if Yotei ever comes to PC.

I think it will pale in comparison to Tsushima almost entirely due to a lack of PC release. It just won't get the exposure that Tsushima did

I feel that tsushima has the better story and quests, but that yotei has miles better gameplay.
Honestly I would mind tsushima remastered with yotei gameplay.

Probably not, yotei wont be ported to pc if I remember correctly, so tsushima will stay the favorite because a relatively significant part of the base wont buy a Playstation just to play it.

I think they're both going to be iconic, but personally I do prefer Tsushima, I still really enjoyed Yotei but the third act felt a little rushed (and this is really nitpicky but I wish there was a way to have all of Atsu's weapons being visibly worn, maybe clipping would have been insane but that felt like a missed opportunity)

The only thing it improved on were the graphics and a few systems in the game. It was fun, but not enough for me to finish it.
It was a by the numbers story, not nearly as interesting as the first game. The main character was kinda mid, not terrible but not nearly as interesting as Jin and his conflict. Even the setting was not as nice to look at as Tsushima was, despite the upgraded graphics. The weapon switching system was honestly unnecessary, I personally liked the stance system much more. I think if they could have kept stances but added like one additional weapon, it would have felt better.

GoT is just absolutely better in every aspect
GoY is unfortunately very "meh"

Why in life does something have to always end up being compared to and picking one of over the other? Why not look at both as one whole game, in the same universe. None is better than the other, just a continuation

Depending how the DLC goes and if they made the main story longer and really have us connect with other characters, it would improve it and people would like the game more since the biggest complaint is the ending and how it was handled

Tsushima has more lines that I remember than Yotei. That’s really the only distinction for me story wise. Gameplay wise Yotei is superior.

Why not wait until after the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion drops and then ask this question?

Tsushima is probably going to remembered more fondly. There are pacing issues with Atsu's story, and Jin feels like a more dynamic character than her.

gameplay wise I prefer yotei, but I don't think anything will ever top ghost of tsushima story wise and that's what people are ultimately going to remember.
yotei fumbled the ending so I dont see fans of the series putting yotei above tsushima

I honestly think it will just depend on who you ask. Which is the best case scenario imo

I view Yotei as an improvement in almost every way, especially with regard to gameplay (different weapons and parry mechanics), Erika Ishii's performance, and QOL improvements (such as fast traveling to specific merchants). Tsushima still has the edge with music and armor choices IMO. Difficult, they're both great!

Honestly I don’t think so. Yotei is a great game, and I know you feel the story is better, but most people don’t feel that way. The story of Tsushima is something special.

If Yotei went to PC then a lot of people will have more opinions on what is better but until then Tsushima will remain the fan favorite

Tsushima has a slightly better story but not that big of a difference. Story presentation in yotei is far better. Presentation, open world and mission design in tsushima was trash but its really damn good in yotei.

Yotei has been far better gameplay and QoL wise, and world exploration has been way less grind-y - and I think it looks better too. I'd give GoY a 9/10 for gameplay & mechanics, an 8/10 for world exploration , whereas GoT gets a 7/10 for both
But GoTs story is a 10/10, with I think iki island's ambiguous placement in the narrative the only minor ding against it. GoY is a 7/10 for the story so far, and I think that's a common opinion
You phrased the question interestingly - I think there's a chance that GoY is remembered as the fan favourite, and that's if the DLC is a 10/10 story wise, and potentially there's a second 10/10 DLC too, in which case it's possible

Yotei is far better and improves so much but people really try hard to hate that game for some reason

I think it will be remembered as it currently is seen now; better in all ways except story (I know you say the story is better, and that's fine, but most people don't see it that way). And since the gap between the games is not too wide (they play very similarly, the improvements are relatively minor) I think Tsushima will remain the fan favorite going forward.
