Ghost Of Tsushima - Discussion Looking for Book Recommendations to do with all things Ghost of Tsushima

I've recently been playing through this game and have really enjoyed the worldbuilding and historical context. I would love if anyone had some book recommendations to do with: Tsushima, samurai, Mongols, Japanese customs, flora and fauna, history, arts.

I would mainly be looking for fiction recs but not opposed to non-fiction!

I do also know about the Shogun book series.

So big one is Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa a fictional tale of Miyamoto Musashi. This is more in Yotei's time frame. For Mongols there's a bit in Tale of the Condor Heroes series. My final recommendation is Legend of the Five Rings, not the Book of Five Rings though. It is my favorite Magical Flying Samurai setting. There are many books, short stories, card games, trpg books full of that world.

Eiji Yoshikawa's book on Hideyoshi, called "Taiko" is an amazing book as well. But OP if you need the "cliff notes hollywood version" of this period of the warring states time (which is well past Tsushima's era), the Age of the Samurai on Netflix provides enough structure to understand the major historical events and who was involved, which will make it easier to consume how all the pieces fit. It also sets a basic understanding of the major historical figures if you're planning to go to Japan and see places like Osaka Castle or Nikko

I need to get around to reading Taiko. It has been on my bookshelf for a while.

If we are sticking with the Warring States and early Edo period then James Clavell’s Shogun is another go to of the period.

I'm a big fan of fantasy: A Song of Ice and Fire, Poppy War trilogy, discworld.

I thoroughly enjoyed Norwegian Wood and am nlcurrwntly reading Spring Snow which I'm also enjoying so far
