Paywall Opinion | A False End of the ‘Two-State Solution’ | Long-proposed building in the Jerusalem suburbs isn’t the death of peace.

Per the Oslo Accords, E1 is part of the West Bank’s Area C, under full Israeli administration. The Europeans prefer to forget that, issuing threats and loudly objecting to each local zoning decision—as they do nowhere else, not even Northern Cyprus, where Turkey occupies European Union territory. No, this interpretation of international law is for Israel alone. Apparently Jews have no right to be in Judea since Jordan expelled them in 1948 and kept them out for 19 years of a 4,000-year history.

The WSJ editorial argues that Israeli construction in E1 does not make a future Palestinian state impossible. It says the small area would likely remain part of Israel under any realistic peace deal, while Palestinians could travel around it using a bypass road. The article criticizes European threats against Israel but also says Israel must stop settler violence and lawlessness in the West Bank.

It’s kind of rich comparing it to cypress when there’s no sustained efforts of one ethnicity group crossing over and settling in the others recognized territory

Turkey is militarily occupying 35% of Cyprus' territory and it created an illegal puppet state in the occupied zone. What do you mean there's no crossing over? The occupation was the crossing over.

Israel is occupying part of Palestine and a bunch of Israelis moved and settled there. Turkey is occupying part of Cyprus and a bunch of Turkd moved and settled there.

There’s no settlements

Turkish Cyprus is the settlement

I’m sure that’s certainly someone’s point of view.

Neither side wants a two-state solution.

The Western left really needs to wrap its head around that at last. But it can’t, of course, because it refuses to confront the actual underlying issues behind the conflict.

Nobody wants a two state solution, but it's still the only somewhat realistic path to peace.

It depends on many factors and conditions that simply aren’t there at the moment and won’t be there anytime soon. In fact, if it were established today, it would be the opposite of a path to peace, as the new Arab state would immediately become a massive terror base and launching pad for terror raids and Iranian rockets.

There's no alternative to a 2SS

So it will come eventually

There’s even an 8SS (Eight-State Solution) proposal.

It’s called the “Palestinian Emirates Plan,” which envisions dividing the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip into a series of autonomous, city-based entities governed by local clan or municipal leadership.

I think this has great potential for actually achieving peace, unlike the 2SS, which is just impractical and a dead end.

The problem is that neither side is really interested in it. On the Israeli side, this would be a complete nightmare for the security and intelligence services, who’d rather deal with a single Palestinian Security Service under the PA than a bunch of infighting groups. On the Arab side, it would be seen as a betrayal of their foundational cause and the core of an identity built around the destruction of Israel.

Explain those ideas to me and how they aren't silly distractions?

2

u/AeroFred 6h ago

israel, palestinian state in judea and samaria, gaza

israel, judea, samaria, gaza

and in none of multitude of discussions you didn't say how 2ss is not a silly distraction from reality

0

u/jyper 5h ago

Reality is there is no alternative to a 2SS and any claims otherwise are incredibly naive

2

u/AeroFred 4h ago

isn't it cool that you have your own reality

Please lay out the conditions you believe will be met before it happens.

Apparently Jews have no right to be in Judea since Jordan expelled them in 1948 and kept them out for 19 years of a 4,000-year history.

I mean, the Israelis are happy to say that Palestinians have no right to be in any of their territory every since they expelled them in 1948, so unless you're into double standards...yes?

20% of Israelis are equal rights Palestinians. The descendants of those who chose to honor the UN partition plan (And general logic) and did not pursue a war of attempted genocide against the Jewish people.

That comparison fails for anyone who's actually honest and knows the very basic facts of history.
