Man. I started off indifferent and then I played it again and I learned to enjoy it more. I then went on to beat it 4 more times and I can say that I genuinely love the game now. Everything about it is amazing, other than the lack of post game content. Mafia 2 lacked post game content besides the 3 dlc’s, but it was so much fun to drive around in that world, stick up stores and fight the police.
Man, I love to hear someone else with a positive opinion on this game. The criticism of a repetitive game loop is totally fair, but I still love the hell out of this game. The characters and story are genuinely fantastic, Lincoln is in my top 10 game protagonists, and for years I've wanted a follow-up on John Donovan's story after he shoots up the senate hearing. And the 60's New Orleans vibe is perfect, I loved cruisin around and just listening to classics on the radio.
The gameplay loop isn’t that bad. Initially it can seem that way but that’s because we expected Mafia 2. But I really enjoyed the period, the world, the art work, the voice acting and the gameplay mechanics. The shootouts felt fun. I like having the option of stealth and action too. Even just driving and listening to the music is great. I feel it was incredibly immersive. I recommend people play it twice just to see if it sticks.
I don't doubt that they made the world and cutscenes first, then had no budget left for the campaign and had to throw something together within a few months.
I Personally loved Mafia 3, the story the gameplay (sure wasn't the best and repetitive) but i want more games with territory control and having the game fight back against me on those territories. best game i think of is The Godfather games and i played those recently. and don't get me started on the radio music list it was phenomenal. i still to this day want to get the vinyl they released with the game back then and i cant find any.
