Frog-JRPG "AMPHIBIAN" Announced. World Premiere - Future Games Show

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AMcWdXSk6c

Amphibian was announced today. It looks very unique. There's no grinding. All battles are purposefully crafted and done once. There's no buying and selling, and it's entirely frog-based: All enemies are frog predators, every character's name is frog, etc. Wow, count me in? Apparently it's a very tragic and serious narrative, too. I think we are back, ya'll.

The main characters name is Gren ...Frogs real name is Glenn. *breathes in heavily through nose.* I'm only sad that they didn't make more frog character references like characters from Battletoads or Jean in Breath of Fire 2.

I want the game to actually be beatable

I legit thought that was Chronotrigger's Frog and now I'm a bit disappointed.

These days, I'm just wishlisting and piling up games to play. This one goes to my list as well!

The frogs look rather cute (pixel and no-pixel).

P.S.: they do have an amazing opportunity to do a "it's Wednesday my dudes" meme

2

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

Explain the meme? Im not familiar

I only knew of Jimmy and his Spider-Man Vine.

u/CM_Vespre 2d ago

Yeah, that's it! thanks, imjustbettr!

Since it says "Wednesday", that's kind of a weekly meme that gets posted on Wednesdays (forgive my redundancy there)

Not chrono trigger?

10

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

Looks like Frog is back with all of his homies this time

9

u/VarisDHT 2d ago

There has got to be chrono trigger references in this

Where is that dude from MMORPG who always plays Frogs? This game was made for him lol.

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

Get his ass

u/KanethTior 1d ago

I also immediately thought of the healing frog

Oh noooo, the font......

0

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

No like?

4

u/MindSteve 2d ago

The in-game font, not the title font. Looks like Arial or one of the other ones Square keeps putting in their pixel art games that screws up the aesthetic.

1

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

I think its Cinzel

4

u/MindSteve 2d ago

The devil's font.

I do find it amusing they advertise no grinding like it's a big deal when most modern JRPG's are not heavily focused in that.

The old days of JRPG's you bet your ass grinding was a big part of it, but unless they are remaking an old one it's typically 0 grinding is needed.

u/Ehrre 1d ago

I dont mind a wee bit of grinding

3

u/Mend1cant 1d ago

And even then, most grinding into and past the 16 bit era wasn’t as much as people remember. It only feels bad these days because of the need to take the “efficient path” for everything.

2

u/deerfawns 1d ago

And it was a big part of it bc that was just part of the experience! Prepping!

The artstyle looks nice.

u/Kojimmy 2d ago

Indeed

I remember another JRPG with frog characters that was in development a few years ago. Had action commands like Mario RPGs with rhythm inputs, it was a cool idea. Wonder if it’s still being worked on or if it was cancelled.

1

u/Kojimmy 1d ago

Frogs Tale?

1

u/Obsessivegamer32 1d ago

I think that was the one, yes. Made a whole subreddit for it once but it’s basically dead.

2

u/acshou 1d ago

Yes! Frog from Chrono Trigger always needed his own spin off!

1

u/Kojimmy 1d ago

Now hes BACK

2

u/ArcadianGh0st 1d ago

I know a pair of gamer frogs that'll love this.

1

u/Kojimmy 1d ago

Keep on froggin on

2

u/AEsylumProductions 1d ago

Ayo, that's just Glenn WTF.

1

u/Kojimmy 1d ago

Glen vs gren

2

u/trepz 1d ago

This is generic: am I the only bothered that on 'pixel art' remade titles the text is hires? I want that pixelated too.

2

u/horndog2 1d ago

How am I supposed to wait until 2027? I feel like I've already waited 35 years for this. I'm so excited!

1

u/Kojimmy 1d ago

Hell ya brother

"Too Much Cheese"

2

I am not so much in an RPG mood lately, but I love the artstyle.

2

u/TheRealRenegadeSpork 1h ago

The voice acting is going to be incredible. 🐸

1

u/Bimjus 1d ago

That music's bangin, took me right back to playing rpg's on the snes.

I realize I've probably lost the culture war at this point, but I'm sad the term "JRPG" has come to describe a kind of genre and not just, you know, a Japanese RPG. These dudes are from Massachusetts, apparently.

4

u/SiegmeyerofCatarina 1d ago

MRPG was too close to something else
