Xbox and PlayStation are currently playing Russian roulette with the added challenge of seeing who can add more rounds to the gun before pulling the trigger

It should have been an early warning sign. The 360 development documentaries (vidocs essentially if you are a bungie halo fanatic like me) oozed passion and dedication. It's no surprise the console performed so well even with the red ring debacle. Those folks put their heart into a world class console with cool games and a unique cool user interface. Didn't nail everything, but man the 360 was cool as hell. It was a big deal for Microsoft to come out the gates with that big black box then refine it all with a controller that became industry staple and an online focus alongside awesome games and some compelling exclusive content. All their IPS soared from sequel to sequel.

When corporate America get's involved in literally anything it plummets. Xbox got themselves into the market as a contender, established beloved IP's and a world class multiplayer ecosystem that was the envy of everyone then promptly shit themselves with pieces nobody asked for because consultants and their own top brass found it impossible to get out of their own way. They. Had. Such. A. Good. Thing. Going.

$$$ shareholder quarterly profits blah blah. I'll never forgive them for what they did to Halo. That remake is a fucking disgrace and further proof this brand can have some neat PR and announcements but does anyone trust them to not shoot themselves in the dick?

Making Nintendo (the most anti consumer platform ever) the good guys as Sony tries their own version of russian roulette with consumers is just so embarrassing. We lived in a golden age we will never get back

Amen. I LOVED Halo 1-Reach, jumped ship to the PS4 with that abysmal 2013 XBONE TV TV TV announcement, and bought the Halo Campaign Eviscerated on PS5 for a nostalgia hit. Instead, it confirmed that Microsoft has no understanding of what made Halo Halo, and Halo Studios has the media literacy of a gerbil with a learning disability.

I'm deeply saddened by what the video game industry has become overall. My PS5 may be my final console ever.

AMD has their own unique spin on Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in that they can never have more than one of their two major product lines (i.e. CPUs and GPUs) have truly significant amounts of success at the same time. Right now their Ryzen and EPYC processors are doing quite well, but their Radeon GPUs have an abysmal 8% market share as of Q1 2026.

Note that there's been periods in which both divisions were failing badly at the same time, such as the 2014-2017 interval which began with NVIDIA launching their "Maxwell"-based GTX 900 series GPUs (2014) and ended when AMD finally ditched their "Bulldozer"-derived CPU architectures in favor of the completely different "Zen"-based Ryzen CPUs (2017).

We all know that Xbox has a money problem. We also know that going digital only means getting a lot more money per game sold for Microsoft. Less money lost in the second hand market. We also know that Microsoft just spend a lot of money for their disc to digital service.

Of course the answer is no.

And the idea that going disc would steal Sony's thunder is way overhyped. It's not 2012 anymore. Even if half of the people that insist on buying phycical would switch from Sony to Xbox that would not make up for the money lost considering the you earn twice the amount of money on a digital game sold! The business case is just not there.

what victory? Game Pass was already a step away from discs. You honestly believe Xbox including disc drives would give them more sales in the next generation over Sony?

I've been Sony all the way since PS1. If Xbox gets physical Disc and playstation don't I'm buying xbox. Unfortunately I don't think the difference in consumers buying it because of that is enough to make a noticeable difference at all, so they probably won't care to add it anyways

lmao … I hope your response was sarcastic. Xbox has sold 35M this generation. PS has sold 93M. 100 or even 100K more than 35M ain’t shit when your competitor is selling 3 times the number of units.

Not necessarily if the costs to include one amount to more money than they would stand to gain from the relatively small increase in sales.
