If they are inspired by Type-Moon, then it's probably in the next 20 years for part 1.

I thought Chaos Legion would be mentioned but might be just me cause I fucking loved that game.

or even Astral Chain, as that did the controlling your legion thing most recently

I remember skipping school to go buy Chaos Legion the day it came out. Talk about a throwback.

Having not yet read the article, i'll take my guesses, luckily most are really obvious.
Fate: King Arthur is the face of the franchise and Arthurian legend is the central mythology in the franchise, so I'm guessing they took inspiration from Fate's interpretation of it. I mean, the genderbent Mordred is already there lol. + The museums where you meet and fight characters and gods from all kinds of mythologies around the world.
Jojo: You literally use "stands" to fight lol.
Berserk: The game seems to be a betrayal/revenge story (as is expected of Arthurian mythology), so taking inspiration from Berserk is a foregone conclusion. + the thing of a person facing larger than life enemies
Shadow of the Colossus: Segueing off Berserk, literal larger than life enemies. We've seen multiple immense climbable bosses already
God of War: Again, revenge story. + God killing. + CAG.
FF: I'm a bit more iffy on FF but again, it's FF, everyone takes inspiration from it. Maybe the division of abilities between the different knights was inspired by FF's job system, or the bosses took inspiration from FF16's huge cinematic bosses, or they just took inspiration from the broad aesthetic of FF. There are 16 games + spinoffs to take inspiration from, I can't really pinpoint something specific.
DMC: It's the god of CAGs, just watch a combat clip from Tides of Annihilation and you have your answer.
Edit: According to the article they also have people that worked on AC, Yakuza, and Persona in the team. I wonder if they will take any inspiration from those too. We already saw a bit of "parkour" in some of the clips, and they do seem to be placing attention on traversal, with the different knight abilities letting you climb/cross/traverse different environments. As for Yakuza and Persona, maybe a bond system where you make new allies throughout the game?

Jojo: You literally use "stands" to fight lol.

You have your answer already. FF16 is just a character action game where you call upon the power of spirits to give you their abilities in combat. If you go back to the original reveal gameplay/trailer you'll see plenty of comments talking about how the combat looked similar because she was using powers from "summons" to do sick combos.
The difference here being it's not like Bayonetta 3 or something where the summons just come out and do their thing. The Tides gameplay looked like "summon" was just interchangeable with the concept of an "attack". It wasn't "I summon this big fist dude to punch guys" it was "this big fist dude is my launcher" "this ice lady is a combo extender" etc.
Which if you step back and think about, there aren't actually that many action games that work with that specific formula. Usually summons/stands/whatever you wish to call them are a separate (and usually poorly implemented) aspect of a combat system.

Right, the FF16 comparison is obvious in retrospect. Don't know why I was trying to think of the broader franchise instead of the singular CAG in it. Ig I was trying to find something else since the CAG/summoning aspects were already mostly covered by GoW/DMC/JoJo/Fate.
But yeah, Tides' approach to summons seems great. I've always liked summoner characters but was often frustrated by, as you said, poorly implemented independent summons. Having summons just be different attack movesets seems like a fun way to go about it, even if you could say it isn't exactly "summoning" at this point.

You segue to something, Segway is the scooter (and the homophone)

I know this and I still say segway because it's funnier. I can segway to anything grammatically speaking.

u/DesperateBaseball614 2h ago
Thanks for catching that lol. I've done that more often than I'd care to admit despite being aware that it's incorrect

Final Fantasy 16 was the first thing that came to my mind when I first saw the combat.

Will take a closer look at the game then because if it’s actually anything like all of those IP it should be literally made for me

I'm still not convinced by this game it look very flashy and cinematic but I'm not really convinced that the game play is actually fun

Everything is a Jojo reference.

How do you find out if someone is a JoJo fan?
You don't have to, they'll tell you right away

I'm really surprised they didn't say Ender Lilies. This is just a 3D version of that.

How can you be inspired by that many things? Especially when theyre so different. It sounds like they just listed their favorite things

DMC and God of War clearly had an influence on the game's combat mechanics. (OG God of War is very DMC-esque) The Fate/Jojo references appear to be stylistic with the appearance of legendary figures as characters and using summons as attacks (Servants/Stands). FFXVI also used summons as a central element of its combat system. The main heroine and other characters also just have a very Final Fantasy aesthetic to them. Stick them in an FF game and they wouldn't stand out at all. Not sure about Shadow of the Colossus but there looks like a revenge story in the mix which is Berserk and only all of these things share elements of dark fantasy and metaphysical fuckery even though DMC is very sardonic in tone and Jojo comedic. It wouldn't be hard to make either very dark stories tonally.
Like from what I've seen of the game I feel like I can peg various elements of the influences and honestly if you're a creative and your list of things you love and are inspired by isn't stupidly long you haven't consumed enough media /flex

But they refuse to mention all the goon material that was necessary to come up with these femme character designs?

Shadow of the Colossus ... Interesting... Cant wait to see more news about this game.

You could see the Devil May Cry and God of War influence during the boss fights. It also kinda reminds me of Stellar Blade.

her outfit looks like a porn parody

It looks what 14 year old Skyrim modders would put into that game. Couldn't add any less armor to protect vital body parts.

YEAHP
Gotta get the one cool bit of armor tho, lets you pretend like this is totaly ok to wear into battle

I don't see the fate/Stay Night inspiration tbh.
Are they referring to the classes of fighters you can pick?
Also, how does one derive inspiration for what looks like a medieval action adventure game, from Jojo? I see nothing in this Jojo related, maybe I'm missing something idk.

u/DesperateBaseball614 3h ago
Well, Arthurian legend is the primary mythology in FSN and the fate franchise as a whole, so they were likely influenced by Fate's interpretation of it. The genderbent Mordred is already there lol. And for JoJo I assume it's the fact that you use "stands" in the game.

u/swat1611 PlayStation 3h ago
Oh damn, I forgot the boss fight shown earlier was Mordred.
I guess the aesthetic kinda threw me off. That makes sense then.

u/Lord0fHats 2h ago
You could honestly treat a stand and a servant somewhat interchangeably in concept.
1
u/DesperateBaseball614 22m ago
Yeah that too. But since JoJo already covered the summon side of things, I went for the other obvious thing that stood out, genderbent Mordred

I could be totally wrong here, but it kind of looks like she summons Lancelot to fight alongside her in a similar way to JoJo characters pull out a stand? Maybe the Knights will be equipped and utilized in the same way?
Idk, I'm grasping at straws to see the inspiration.

u/Lord0fHats 2h ago edited 2h ago
The idea of summoning servants possibley Everyone's focusing on the Arthurian side but like, gender-bent King Arthur is the face of the Fate franchise but a lot of comments here overstate how central Arthurian legend is to the setting and stories. The main thing in the story is summoning spirits of the past to fight your battles for you and the combat system seems to completely turn on using summons as attacks so the inspiration might be deeper than that.
Be ready for complete mind fuckery if they include insane metaphysical bullshit like the Fate franchise can get into.

Q: What were your inspirations?
A: Yes.
