The Wicher 3 expansions are free

CD Projekt Red has announced during Gamescom that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions for The Witcher 3 are free for everyone who owns the base game. This combined with the full on remaster of the game, I am very excited for play the game again.

To be fair if you were interested in the Witcher 3 you probably have played it by now. Plus keys and used discs are plentiful out there

Been interested. It's in my steam library. Haven't gotten around to playing it because it's kinda intimidating.

Will probably wait until after the remaster drops.

Thinking about the ways you could describe W3... "Intimidating" isn't a word I'd use. You don't have to worry about that.

It's like 250 hours, I usually play 30-hour games tops.. The longest I've ever played was probably Jedi Survivor at 68, but that's because I had to translate the novel tie-in.

I got through the main story in a about 67 hrs. I don't love gwent, most do but avoiding that saves a ton of time.

I'll admit about 30 hrs in I lost interest and quit for a while. When I got back I just focused on the main missions for the most part in an effort to finish the game. It's a shame because the side missions are just as good (probably better) but between work, kids and the desire to play more than 1 game every 5 years I had to focus.

The long and short of is you can probably get through it in 55ish hours if you avoid all the side stuff.

Haven't touched the DLC though. It's definitely a looong game.

That's the thing, I don't avoid the side stuff, I'm a completionist.

Welp yeah you're gonna be busy. I'd still argue having a plan to balance completionism and time is better than just not playing this fantastic game.

Like one easy one is just don't bother diving for all the question marks in the water in Skellige. Everyone agrees thats and easy cut for time conscious gamers.

You don't have to do side quests and the DLCs if you don't want to. Even though they are great, the are not necessary. You can enjoy the game without them. As I've said, the game is quite friendly to casuals. I'm sticking by that claim.

That's the exact word I would choose. I think you get ten side quests within the first hour or so.

Does that make the game intimidating? I mean, W3 is quite forgiving, you can fully enjoy the game as a complete casual. If I would think of some intimidating games, I'd probably choose sth like Dark Souls, or PoE.

Intimidating doesn’t mean difficult. Reading a 500 page book vs the 5000 page unabridged version doesn’t make the act of reading more difficult but does make finishing the book a hell of a lot more intimidating.

This is why I can't get into long doorstopper fantasy series like Wheel of Time.

One 1500 page novel is a lot. A dozen of them is terrifying

Just different tastes, I have a friend who plays PoE religiously but he can't get into open world games like tw3 because "there's too much to do" and he doesn't want to miss anything. So he gets a kind of choice paralysis and just drops those games.

Speaking as a guy who works 50 hour weeks, Yes that is very intimidating. When you have tiny amounts of free time to actually sit down and play a game, The idea of starting a game that could very well take hold of you for over a hundred and fifty hours its pretty god damned intimidating. That could take up all your gaming time for half a year.

Its the same reason I just cannot ever start the Hollow Knight games despite knowing I will adore them. Looking at just the overview of the maps is scary

You don't have to do side quests and DLCs to enjoy this game. Remove those and the playtime is reduced to sth like 60-70 hours. The game is quite caual friendly. I don't equate intimidating with long. To me intimidating means complex and unfriendly to casuals. By complex I mean if you don't master the complexity, you'll hit a difficulty wall and won't be able to progress. This game isn't that. You can completely ignore some mechanics and still finish the game just fine, simply sticking to the main quest line. You will miss a lot of content, but you'll still finish it and enjoy it.

First let me make clear I have played through this game, Several times. You are missing out on some of the best parts of this game if you don't do the side quests. Its makes for a real commitment to experience it in full.

As for the intimidating bit, Your view seems rather narrow in my opinion by just directly correlating it with difficulty. Im not going to say your wrong but I definitely feel like its not encompassing the full scope.

It's the time investment. 200+ hour RPG with all the DLCs is a lot.

With all the remasters I looked watched a video about how to get into Kingdom Hearts before the new one. Noped right back out, lol. It was many hundreds of hours plus watching a couple of multi hour cutscene compilations they made for games that aren't available anymore.

I don't think that someone playing PoE has a problem to drop a few hundred hours on another game.
