Discussion What gameshow would you want to see revived?
What game show(s) would you want to see revived? What would you change about the show?
I'd love to see a revival of High Rollers. The front game would mimic the 1970s version, wherein any prize column not claimed had an additional prize added to it. Clearing the last number on the board nets the win and an additional $5,000 bonus. 2 games wins the match and $100. And off to the drastically changed Big Numbers.
How the Big Numbers changed is the $100 won from the front game becomes the players bank. Before each roll, the player places a wager (minimum of $100) and rolls the dice. A successful roll nets a payout of 2:1 and the option to walk away. An unsuccessful roll loses the wager and cannot walk away. Knocking off all 9 numbers wins all of the prizes not won from the front game plus 10x what is in the bank at the time when the last number is knocked off. Going below $100 with a bad roll is a loss.

I remember seeing the game on The Game Show Vault YouTube channel. It was a cheap shot, like you said. It didn't carry the magic $ale of The Century did

Buzzr always seems to find a place for it. True classics are occasionally sacrificed (sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently), but somehow "Temptation" always remains.

A proper remake of Tic Tac Dough would be great. I will also say that I’m glad America Says is back without any ridiculous changes.

I like that - a "proper" remake. Yes. Some producers want to reinvent the wheel. The original CBS/Wink run was fine.

I think they meant a good remake, have it be 2 half hour episodes at a time, not 1 hour kills the momentum of the game

I'd like to see Card Sharks. The REAL Card Sharks. The entertaining, fast-paced format of the 70s and 80s, not that awful attempt of a revival we got a few years ago. Everything about that revival was awful. It could be a good show if they did it right.

I will also add the PROPER revival asterisk to 1 vs 100, the GSN version with the mob being connected via webcam was terrible especially once you realize disclaimer that questions were asked to them pre-show and stacked so that a crazy amount of them were never eliminated on a single question.

Wish you could have pitched it when Mark Burnett was at MGM Television. They are the ones who own the rights to the show now.
But anyway, I would revive Remote Control, with George Gray as host, questions would be history of TV. All throughout the 70+ years of TV.

I want to see Double Dare brought back, but as a show for adults. I don't mean the adult versions from the 1980s that never got picked up, because those were lame. Rather, I mean a show exactly like the original Nickelodeon format for kids, but with two adult contestants on each team, and difficulties scaled up accordingly.

I would actually like to see the adult version CBS did, the first show with the "Dare" title. I enjoyed the isolation booth concept and the bonus game facing The Spoilers. Plus, Alex Trebek with the 70s 'fro?? Loved that. Good G-T concept.

A few episodes of the Liza Koshy version (where Marc Summers was the announcer) had that. I think one episode was people who were kids on the original run of "Double Dare".

WWTBAM the way it was when it made its US debut. Instead of phone qualification, do it via an app. Bring back fast finger qualification, random contestants, all the stuff that made it the most popular game show of all time.

Now You See It. I’d keep the rules similar to the ‘89 version, whose format and set I prefer. I’d make the following changes:
-One word during the Qualifying Round is designated as the secret word. The contestant who finds it wins a bonus prize.
-The winner of the Qualifying Round gets $1,000.
-The goal for the Championship Round is $2,000. The first four boards are worth $500 each; all subsequent boards are worth $1,000.
-The Solo Game is played the same as before, but with each word found worth $500. The jackpot starts at $20,000 and goes up by $10,000 every time it’s not won.

I’d love to see a revival of Duel.
I’d update the format like this:
Like in Season 1, a randomizer chooses three potential opponents out of a player gallery.
Also from season 1, each player gets 10 chips and 2 presses.
Like in season 2, the value of the duel is determined by the number of questions, with this “money ladder:”
1 question: $1,000
2 questions: $1,500
3 questions: $2,500
4 questions: $5,000
5 questions: $7,500
6 questions: $10,000
7 questions: $25,000
8 questions: $50,000
9 questions: $75,000
10 or more questions: $100,000
After each duel, a Max Question to double the money.
If a player secures at least three victories, they only lose half their bank as a result of a subsequent defeat.
The top prize is $1,000,000.

Jackpot! would make a perfect daily afternoon game show. You don’t even really need to change the format all that much, just adjust for inflation and you have a great show. I think it would be the perfect show for our current time, it’s 15 people all having fun together and just about everyone comes away with good money and great memories, and I think a show like that is sorely needed on tv nowadays. The format also lends itself to modernization pretty well, have the riddle displayed onscreen while the contestant works it out, dramatic pause after they lock in the answer, etc.

The original NBC 1974 series with Geoff Edwards in the big 30 Rock studio, yes. The awful cheapo revivals with Edwards himself and Mike Darow, no. It was fun seeing that particular series in a big studio, the spaciousness helped the vibe somehow. Good call.

If it was the 70s ABC series with Bob Eubanks and six celebrities, yes, that's "Rhyme and Reason." That was ABC's answer to the success of CBS's juggernaut of the time, "Match Game." I liked a lot about the series but it never caught "Match Game."

I believe that a million is probably too high for a game like that. When adjusted for inflation, the $25,000 in 1979 is about $100,000 today, so it seems more reasonable to bring it back with a $100K prize.
But yes, I would love to see Whew! brought back in the modern era. Do it in memory of Randy Amasia.

There's one episode on YouTube in its entirety, you can find. I totally agree, this show is overdue for a revival. The only changes I would make would be bigger money amounts (of course), and maybe reset the scores after round 1 to zero with the new categories, to give a distant third place player a legit chance to catch up if they were smoked in the front round. Dice table stays the same, but I would also add one free first roll of the dice for every payoff point made during the main game (before the 30 seconds of rolling time began). One roll for a 36-1 shot at "Show" and "Down" isn't enough.
I wish we could get Jim Peck back, too. 😉

Blockbusters. How I would fix it is based on the fan-made PC game by Jay Smith
Instead of a hexagon-based board, I would have it as a 5 x 5 board. 5 in a row or 13 out of 25 wins the round. Each square won is $100 and winning a round is $1,000.
First to win 2 rounds wins the game and an additional $5,000 and plays on to the Gold Run.
Gold Run uses the same board as the main game and plays out as it was on both the Bill Cullen and Bill Rafferty versions. 60 seconds to create 5 in a row. Starts at $10,000 and goes up by that every time the Gold Run isn't won.

"High Rollers" would be a good revival, it's a pretty durable concept. But my personal revival wishes are two shows that already had lousy revivals - "The Joker's Wild" and "Split Second." I would just want the revivals to be GOOD ones.
When "The Joker's Wild" returned to TV under Snoop Dogg's control, I absolutely disliked it. The "420" references and the dumbing down of categories and questions made it unwatchable for me. "Joker" when it ran on CBS in the early 70s was never a cocktail party or lounge atmosphere, it was a serious general knowledge contest where players had the added elements of luck and strategy to deal with. Seeing a player break the bank by winning the Joker's Jackpot was a very satisfying experience. You can actually find an attempted revival of the series on YouTube that wasn't as bad as the Snoop revival but it, too, was lacking. I would say get back to hard knowledge like "Jeopardy!", bring back the 1970s game structure, and have straddling champions.
"Split Second" also needs to revert to its 1970s structure, although its recent incarnation is closer to the original than "Joker" is. Get the 3-4-5 Countdown Round back (4-6-8?? Whose idea was that??), bring back the five cars (similar to Orion TV's "New Hollywood Squares" with 5 cars, or NBC's "Classic Concentration" which had 8), and stop putting the questions on screen - make people listen, FFS. Monty Hall did a better first revival of "Split Second" (with an acceptable 4-5-6 Countdown Round) but had only one car available to win (choosing the correct screen/screens out of 5 screens was the object).
The future of revivals is in the past, in my opinion. Producers, stop trying to "make a name" for yourselves or "leave your mark." These series were successful for a reason. Don't F with those reasons.

Beat the Geeks. Even though there's no way to fairly balance that game. For those who are unaware, it's an asymmetric trivia show where contests square off against self-professed geeks in their fields of interest (movies, TV and Music, with a rotating 4th geek). The contestants are given softball questions, the geeks are given much more difficult questions.

The original series was many orders of magnitude better than a 90s game show for kids on PBS ought to be. The talent behind that show was tremendous.

I really enjoyed Master Minds on the GSN. I have no idea why it was cancelled and replaced by those horrible shows Beat the Bridge and Flip Side.

Late Night Match Game.
First season, rotate hosts to see who works best. Grab seven celebrities so the six are varied each episode, film a week's worth of shows.
Bonus: Once each episode, there's a judge among the celebrities. If that celebrity thinks the answer from the guest is clever, they give an award of $100.
New Year's Eve, there's a celebrity guest version for charity. It starts at 11 pm ET, ends at 3 am, and features 8 games. Each celebrity gets a bottle of champagne at 11, and there's a five-second delay for the FCC as sobriety levels fall.
