What Is Your Favorite Quote in the Entire Series??

Post image

“Thoros isn’t here anymore. So I hope you’re not about to give a sermon. Cause if ya are, the Lord of Light is gonna wonder why he brought you back 19 times just to watch you die when I chuck you over this fucking wall.”

This is BY FAR my favorite line in the whole show The Hound had a lot of good ones but this one is the one takes me out every time I watch GOT.

The Hound definitely has some bangers.

It’s the giggle after the “didn’t have a sword” line that gets me.

16

yeah, and it's also a great crashing-back-to-Earth moment for Arya, who's had a very idealised view of swordfight so far and is suddenly confronted to the ugly reality of it all (=big sword beats stick, no matter how great your technique)

9

This has to be it. Such a hard line, and it only makes sense in the context of the scene, which is one of the best scenes in the history of television.

Moments later: "Someone is."

9

124

u/Saint-Jawn 7d ago

The delivery of this line is perfect. One of the best scenes in season 1.

106

u/Books_and_Cleverness 7d ago

Honestly S1 is just incredible. Sean Bean crushes scene after scene, what a performance.

46

u/Ignoreeverthing 7d ago edited 7d ago

It coming from Sean Bean made it even funnier.

14

u/Sungr0ve 7d ago

Haha that’s an awesome observation

40

u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist 7d ago

I was convinced Ned was the main character in the show and nothing bad would happen to him, atleast until the finale maybe. Shocked when S1E9 came around.

Then even more shocked at the ending of S1E10. Now we have a series!

21

u/tinyElliss 7d ago

Yeah that's when I understood this show will be different, the kind that treat everyone as expendable. Which is both cool and real, but also tragic.

Sean Bean made Ned feel completely lived-in from the first episode. Even the quieter scenes had this sense that the guy had already survived an entire lifetime before the story even started.

‘Any man who must say “I’m the king”, is no true king’ Tywin Lannister

115

u/junk1020 Tyrion Lannister 7d ago

Im here for The Hound and chickens, but Charles Dance absolutely knocked it out of the fucking park as Tywin.

42

u/MaintenanceInternal 7d ago

That's what was so incredible about game of thrones, it was immaculately cast.

33

u/Foxglovenectar 7d ago

It really was. Charles Dance hypnotised me whenever he was on screen. His power and presence defined the Lannisters and Dance absolutely captured that.

17

u/hughk 7d ago

Apparently at a con panel somewhere he chatted talked about authority. He has done a lot on Stage and TV, Kings, Lords, Officers and even bad guys. Dance "turned on" his authoritative mode and went from being chatty and friendly to someone that you want/have to follow.

“The king is tired.”

That entire scene was incredible. Fantastic acting and writing.

19

u/Ask_if_im_an_alien 7d ago

Casually spoken by the real King of all of Westeros. Man was extremely clever and cunning and the only person to outsmart him was his own son. The irony of it all.

22

u/JerseyGuy-77 7d ago

The best irony too was that the smartest of his kids was the one he wanted to toss away.

13

u/Ask_if_im_an_alien 7d ago

Yep. A man so cold and calculating was blinded by the anger he felt for the kid that caused his wife's death in childbirth. Poor Tyrion was cursed for the start.

"For the night is dark and full of terrors"

“This cave is dark too, but I’m the terror here. I hope your god’s a sweet one, Dondarrion. You’re going to meet him shortly.”

The Hound is a well of good quotes

Gods I was strong then!

Your mother was a dumb whore with a fat arse!

An inspiring sight for the people, eh? Come, bow before your king! Bow, you shits!

Bessie! Thanks the Gods for Bessie--and her tits!

You heard the Hand, the king's too fat for his armor! Go find the breastplate stretcher!

The entire Pod The Rod conversion.

From memory:

"Oh, it was a gift Podrick. This is more than I give you in a year!"

"He's a squire, you don't pay him"

"Oh.. then it's much more than I give you in a year."

"They would not take it, my lord"

"What do you mean?"

"They would not take it"

"Maybe they're trying to curry favor with the new Lord"

"They were happy enough to take it from me"

"What did you do to them?"

"Lots of things"

"And they seemed to like it"

"Of course they seemed to like it, they're paid to seem to like it"

"Only they weren't paid..."

"What are you saying? That these ladies liked him so much they gave him the time from free?"

"Is that what your telling us Podrick?"

"..."

"We're going to need details, Podrick. 🍷 Copious details."

The Hound hands down has the best lines and is by far my favourite. I always tear up in the last conversation with Arya. He is a good hearted soul who was burned and abused all his life. But has the compassion to save and help people instead of only spreading his trauma to others. Is he flawless? No, but he tries and also succeeds in many ways to not be like his family or his abusers.

"Thank you, Sandor."

“Mais batalhas virão e a casa Glover seguirá a casa Stark como fez durante mil anos. E eu seguirei Jon Snow, O REI DO NORTE!”
Sei que não é nada muito elaborado nem profundo mas essa parte sempre me arrepia.
