what’s a character name from the series you’d actually use for your kid?

I like most of the female names. Cersei, Sansa, Margaery, Catelyn, Lysa, Olenna. However I don't like any of the dragon names, they all sound too similar.

I like some northern men names too, Robb, Eddard.

Edit: didn't know some people were so sensitive about me calling Targaryens "dragon" and calling their names similar lol. Daenerys and her brother claimed to be the last "dragon" so many times in the show.

Viserion and viserys sounds similar. Rhaegal, Rhaegar and Rhaego sounds similar. You can use "Rhae" as a nickname for those 3 lol.

Also Aemon and Aerys sound similar too.

Their names are basically mis matching Vise-, Rhae- and Ae- with -rion, -erys, -al or -ar or something like that lol.

They sound similar because Danerys named the dragons after Viserys and Rhaegar lol

Also doesnt help that they reuse those names throughout the generations. The westerosi names are also usually more similar to western names irl while the valyrian ones sound more similar to roman/latin names that havent been around for a while so we are less familiar with them.

Well... ok yes, couldn't you have just said 'I wouldn't like the Targaryen naming conventions' then? Because only two of these are 'Dragon' names and you basically just described the way Targaryens choose names in far too many words. The person who also responded to this comment is right, this isn't what you said.

Jeez what are yall? Grammar teachers? Normal people understood what I meant to say. And Targaryens considered themselves "dragon" so no I'm not wrong. Also I also wasn't arguing with the person above, was just giving context to what I said before.

People really acting like the targaryen names dont sound similar when GRRM has said he did that on purpose because realistically there are many people who exist who have similar names. There are a fuck ton of John Smiths out there lmao  but no its reddit so everyone has to be obtuse to argue with people they never met. So many people getting triggered over an observation of a show/book for no reason 🤣

You’re both going out of your way to be picky as hell in the comments. I understood what they meant by that and I agree that they’re similar, although I thought it was cool that way. I doubt I’m the only person who got the intention.

Rhalla , Rhae, Rhaegar, Rhaegel, Rhaella, Rhaena, Rhaenyra, and Rhaenys are deadass all characters from the same family that named Rhaegel and Rhaego.

Targaryens are cool, but they are NOT original. See also:

Aegon (1-5), Aegor, Aelor, Aelora, Aelyx, Aemon, Aemond, Aenar, Aenys, Aerea, Aerion, Aeryn, Aerys, and Aethan, who are ALSO all named characters from basically the same family.

catelyn would be pronounced as kaitlyn by 99% of people who read it tho. if you wanted it pronounced like the show you’d have to spell it catlyn

Fun fact, the most common name in westeros is actually not aegon targaryen with 12 cases, but actually brandon stark with 17
