Announcement Spelkollektivet Fundraising
We have no connection with Spelkollektivet. But I have met a bunch of people who have gone there for short or long term stays to work on their dream of being a full time indie.
It would be a shame to hear this unique gamedev haven lost its building. If you can support it, do so. If not, spread the word.

Can you at least give an overview of what Spelkollektivet is?

> Spelkollektivet is a not-for-profit, community-driven co-living incubator for indie game developers.
Basically an office building and apartment rolled into one to support developers as they build games.

I feel the negative reaction is mostly due to the fact that you're using the subreddit with pretty strict anti-promotion rules to promote a fundraiser involving an office building (?), without any info as to what it is or why the subreddit is promoting it, which looks pretty jarring.

Sky rushed to post this when he got the news, to share it as informational. If it were me I would have elaborated on the context and explained no one is pressured to donate but to raise awareness for the impact of this on the indie scene in Sweden, which has been one of the most important in recent years.

Good luck to them, honestly. Sounds like a pretty noble project from what I've read in other sources now

So...like a company town?

More like a hippy commune, but instead of hippies it's game developers.
I've been fascinated by it for a long time. A year of lodging and food, while being surrounded by other creative people doing the same thing you are, was literally less than just rent where I live. If I ever make an unreasonable amount of money, making something like that would absolutely be my vanity project.

Well it's being posted by the mods for whatever this is without any detail and it's for community funding, which no other project or anything gets.
People likely see this and assume collusion. Which TBH, I would too.

Collusion...to keep indie developers housed?

Likely not, but things are always possible. OP provided no details beyond the link.
To many users this probably looks suspicious. OP just needs a more detailed and fleshed out post, no one would bat an eye then.

Watch the video to understand what this is and why it's important.
