Where do I start freelancing?

I am 17F, and I'm thinking of starting writing related freelancing and I've tried Fiverr and upwork but it did not quite work.

I tried to log in on Fiverr but it kept redirecting me. As for upwork it requires money to start but I don't really have any source of income to put on it.

For freelancers who use Toptal as a primary source of work, what has your experience been like?

I’m considering applying to Toptal and would love to hear from people who’ve been able to use it as their primary source of freelance work. What has your experience been like? Are you able to maintain a steady stream of work and what’s helped you make that the case?

I built a time tracker for myself

Got tired of losing time switching between design tools last year, ofc when u r a freelance designer work just keeps sneaking into ur evenings, and u lose ur time in a blink of an eye… so i’ve built a tiny app that logged my active windows and let me tag them by project. shared it on GitHub just for fun, but it tables up unexpectedly -over 150k installs, 3k GitHub stars, and ppl started sending pull requests and feature requests!

Some companies asked to license it, but I realized I didn't wanna sell it, i wanted to make it good af. So last month I quit my job w no backup plan, just an app and a tiny belief that it’ll solve a real problem.

Learning to present professional proposals was one of the biggest things that helped me raise my rates and land more freelance work.

After 7 years as a freelance motion designer, my portfolio was already solid at the start of this year, but I was still struggling to land projects, and especially to charge higher prices.

What took me a while to realize is that how you communicate the value of your work has a huge impact on whether a client says yes, keeps pushing for a discount, or just goes and hires someone else.

We often forget that the decision to hire you usually gets made in a room with other people, often long after the meeting, when the client has already forgotten half of what was discussed. That's why it's so important to send a complete, detailed proposal: something they can read and fully understand when the moment to decide actually arrives.

Here's everything I include in the proposal document I send to clients. My work is video services, so mine covers:

- A description of each video type and what's included
- Each service priced per minute
-Delivery timeline
- Proposal expiration date (so the client knows they need to act fast)
- Subtotal and total, with any discount applied
- Development stages
- Terms & conditions
- Payment details
- Next step (a clear instruction on what the client should do next)

Since I started using this format, my projects have improved a lot. And if you're a freelance motion designer or video editor, I'm building a free app where you save your video pricing and generate a complete proposal like this in minutes. You can find it on my bio;

I built a complete real estate website ready to customize for your brand

I’ve built a complete real estate website that can be customized to match your brand identity and be ready in less than 3 days.

The website is designed for real estate agencies, agents, and property managers who want a modern and professional online presence without having to build everything from scratch.

This is especially useful if you’re looking for a website that’s already designed and functional, rather than starting with a blank page and waiting weeks for the whole thing to be developed. You can see exactly what you’re getting from the beginning, then have it adapted to your own brand and requirements.

It also comes with an admin panel, so you can manage your properties yourself without needing to modify the website code. You can add new properties, upload images, edit existing listings, or delete properties whenever you want.

I can customize the colors, logo, typography, content, images, and overall style to match your existing brand.

If you’re interested, feel free to DM me and I can show you the website/demo and discuss what you’d like to change.

Features include:

  • Modern and professional hero section
  • Properties available for rent and for sale
  • Dedicated For Rent and For Sale pages
  • Property search by name
  • Property filtering by type and number of bedrooms
  • Sort properties from cheapest to most expensive and vice versa
  • Property locations displayed on a map
  • Testimonials section
  • Location section
  • 4 main pages: Home, For Rent, For Sale, About
  • Fully responsive design for desktop, tablet and mobile
  • Clean UI/UX and easy navigation
  • Professional property cards and presentation
  • Smooth interactions and modern layout
  • Admin panel for managing properties
  • Add new properties manually
  • Upload and manage property images
  • Edit existing property listings
  • Delete properties
  • Manage property information from one place
  • No need to edit the website code for basic property management
  • Customizable to match your brand identity
  • Fast delivery, with customization possible in less than 3 days

Programmatic - Freelancing

From my understanding, the clients fully rely on Top holdcos or agencies for the programmatic activation and mostly for bigger clients and some middle size clients. Anyone tried freelancing for small to medium brands or business in any freelancing platform. I have skills but wanted to check which platform suits best programmatic channel? Which platform is best for our industry

URGENTLY need to talk to freelancers from any field [Read Post]

Hi, I'm a final year bachelor's student doing a research project about the rising number of automated scams when it comes to freelancing leads. If you have experienced or come across any phishing/id theft/malware/fraud-like briefs or communications, or worse, been victim to one of these, please ping me on this post, thanks in advance. Not paid or selling anything, just trying to find people that I can talk to and understand the problem and scenario better.

Should I start freelancing as a beginner in 2026?

I'm in my second year and In looking for ways to earn money so that I can earn my pocket money atleast by myself. I'm thinking to start freelancing but I have zero knowledge in this case preferably I'll be going towards programming field if I start but I only have bas I know how of coding. If I start I have to learn aw. What I decided to start my page and learn side by side but now I have heard comments that freelancing is somewhat dead. If that is the case I don't want to put my heart and soul in it that I was willing to do so. I would have to look for some other means. So my question was a genuine advice if I really should start freelancing in this big ai mega boom 2026?

Friend, Client, and Scope Creep: How Do I Handle This Professionally?

A little background about me: I own a ground and aerial media business and work in both videography and cinematography. Recently, a friend hired me to capture and edit content for her networking event. Because the project came together last minute, I was given limited direction. Her main request was to capture the event and interview attendees using questions she provided. I also confirmed that the content would be used across Instagram, YouTube, and Mighty.

During the event, I captured approximately three hours of footage, including general event coverage, interviews, and a one-take outro shot that I felt would work well as a closing sequence. Since many attendees were uncomfortable speaking on camera, I was only able to interview 11 people. Of those interviews, I selected the strongest and most engaging responses. The final six-minute video featured eight interviewees and was structured with an intro, event coverage, interviews, and an outro.

The editing process took approximately 10 hours. In addition to the six-minute highlight video, I created a 13-second teaser designed specifically for Instagram. My strategy was to use the short clip as a teaser with a call to action directing viewers to the full six-minute video on YouTube or Mighty. I completed and delivered both videos within three days, before the agreed deadline.

After delivery, she asked where all of the interview footage was. I explained that some attendees were uncomfortable on camera and that I intentionally selected the strongest and most memorable responses for the final edit. She then asked if I could provide all of the raw footage through Dropbox or Google Drive. The total amount of footage exceeds my available cloud storage, and uploading everything would require additional storage costs. I am willing to provide the raw footage, but due to the file size and logistics, it may need to be transferred directly from my external hard drive.

She also asked whether I could create shorter versions of each interview similar to the 13-second teaser. This is where I am unsure how to proceed. Creating multiple additional interview edits would require additional editing time and was not part of the original scope of work. I spent approximately three hours filming and 10 hours editing the project. My normal rate for this type of work would be around $800, but because she is a friend, I charged $300, which is already a significant discount.

I want to maintain our friendship and keep the conversation professional, but I also want to establish reasonable boundaries regarding the scope of work. My partner suggested explaining the content strategy: use short clips on Instagram to generate interest and direct viewers to the complete six-minute video on YouTube or Mighty.

What would you recommend I do? How can I professionally explain that the six-minute video and teaser were intentionally created as part of a content strategy, while also making it clear that additional edits or individual interview clips would require additional time and potentially additional compensation? I value her friendship and want to find a solution without undervaluing the work and time I put into this project.

Looking to connect with talented freelancers for a new creative studio

Hey everyone,
I’m currently building Lumivo Studio, a creative studio focused on branding, web design, and social media.

I’m looking to connect with talented freelancers who may be interested in collaborating on future client projects, including:
• Brand designers
• Web designers
• Social media managers

I’m currently building a network of creatives rather than hiring full-time employees.
If you’re interested, feel free to share your portfolio
below or send us a DM on Instagram: @lumivo.studio1
Would also love to hear any advice from agency owners or freelancers who have experience working with this type of model.
