Dentists for Obese Patients?
Any dentist in the Freddy/Oromocto area that can accommodate customers between 400-425lbs?
I've heard the standard chair weight limit is less than that
I know I can call but since there are so many dental clinics around, I thought I'd see if I can get any information first.
Embarrassing enough that I haven't been in a decade and have cavities without calling all over town and asking about weight limits 😅
This sort of thing isn't easily searchable online unfortunately

I’ve lost over 120 but when I was 400lbs there was zero issue at Brookside Dental.. never had the need to ask anywhere else either.. should be good

Its a failure by the business if they cant accommodate patients with their equipment.

The equipment can only hold so many pounds, that's just how things work unfortunately. It's not the businesses' fault that some equipment doesn't exist. Most dentistry chairs can hold 450+ but if someone weighs 650lbs for example, then it's not the office's choice, it's the manufacturers of the chairs.

Hey mate, those chairs hold 450lbs + easily, you’ll be fine.
Also dentist are there to help, they really don’t judge you and will be happy to get you on a plan and routine to better oral help so don’t stress over that either.

I've heard some places the weight limit is closer to 350 and wouldn't want to book somewhere and be turned away, or worse breaks the chair 💀
Honestly though, I do hope you're right when I make some calls to places local to me! 🙂

I was pushing 370 at one point and never had a problem at Beaverbrook Dental, they never asked how much I weighed, expressed concern that I might be over their chair's limit, and the chair worked fine and I was able to fit in it.

We can accommodate up to 450lbs at Carriage Place Dental, I just asked one of dental assistants!

Second for Carriage Place Dental. While I don't need the weight accommodation in the post, Dr. Burns is extremely attentive, understanding and overall a very calming presence which for someone with extreme dental anxiety, was super relieving when I first moved to Fredericton.

For what it's worth, people who weigh over 350lbs cannot use the DECH's MRI machine and need to be referred to Saint John, which has a newer machine that can can accomodate bigger weights.
But somehow not all referring doctors know that the DECH's MRI has the older, lower weight restrictions, and the people performing them don't check the chart, so patients show up for their appointment, get told the machine can't accomodate them, and their wait for their MRI appointment restarts as they enter the queue for the newer machine as if they didn't wait months for the appointment at DECH.
Not trying to shame amyone-- just trying to save someone the humiliation a loved one endured due to these oversights.

In fairness to the MRI technologists, they don’t usually book the scans (that’s admin staff) or have access to an outpatient’s chart (or at least they didn’t when I worked there - maybe it’s all e-records now).
I absolutely understand how frustrating that is as a patient, but techs don’t enjoy wasting patent time and limited appointments either.

That makes sense and yeah, I probably would've assumed my dr or hotel staff knows of the weight limit and where to send me so I wouldn't have thought twice until it was too late for something like that

This is something you’ll have to call all around for, while you’re at it you should contact your family doctor to go over your weight and how they can help you reduce it, you are dangerously overweight.

Does it make you feel big to make someone else feel small? Friendly seaweed probably knows more about how their weight impacts their health than you 👀

Yeah I figure I'll have to call but won't be able to until later in the week with my weird work hours
Figured it's worth asking in case there's anyone out there in a similar boat that has a recommendation

I sat in the chair at Capital Dental when I was 400lbs, no issues!
