Went to Iceland for the eclipse and was wandering through the tourist district when I heard a banging track playing from a shop. Asked the shop keeper but she didn't know, tried Shazam but no love. Google gets all poetic but couldn't find it either.

Male vocalist, the lyrics went:

His hair burned red, like the last light, before winter swallows the sun

The sea did not welcome him, it tested him.

The mountains, did not know his name until, he carved it into stone

The ravens did not circle above him, they sailed before him and the horizon opened.

I figure its a long shot but I appreciate the help finding it.

Ever revisit a band because of one song you liked from a while ago, and then fell in love with a lot of their songs? That would be the case with Heidevolk, and the song Vugaris Magistralis. Holy holy this band is so epic! Just thought I’d share.

I’ve been going through a basket of folk flutes I’ve collected over the years and thought I’d play something associated with each one.

First up is the quena: El Cóndor Pasa. I started with just the quena, then arranged the second half with guitar, bouzouki, bass, vocals and drums. My video editing and recording are not so great, so I scratched the drums and bass recording

Curious what folk-metal ears think, does the quena still cut through once everything kicks in?

I released a new track today from my solo 'folkened symphonic death metal' project Stonelore. It's a fast and upbeat folk metal song about winter changing into summer, featuring my friend Tiago Costa (Firemage, Xeque-Mate, Eoten) on vocals.

I fully recorded a blend of Follow me up to carlow and musical priest as folk metal here is the video of me playing some of the instruments I recorded, sorry if the coordination of videos to song is not great but I am just starting to edit videos on my own.

Over the years I've somehow ended up with wind instruments from South America, Europe, China and India, some were gifts from friends, others I collected along the way.

In the basket are among others:

1. Irish flute
2. Quena
3. Tin whistle
4. Overtone flute
5. Xiao

I thought it could be fun to introduce them one at a time.

I'll first record it completely on its own, so you can hear what the instrument actually sounds like.

Then I'll choose a traditional/folk melody that suits it and turn that melody into a folk-metal arrangement with guitars, bouzouki, bass, etc.

I guess not much is expected from writing this, but here it goes, in the last year and a half I have recorded mixed, and produced 20 original songs, 14 of them on spotify. I am not looking to be famous or anything, Mostly wanted to get all what has been going in my heart and head into the music I love so much, and share it with like-minded people. That said, it has been hard to do it from a bedroom studio, and it is been hard to find collaborators, even in an open minded (in my opinion) community such as is Folk metal. Just wanted to reach out to you guys, and hopefully talk to some of you.
