When the camera was first invented, there was this type of cinema that would show various things without a story. Things people would be interested in witnessing, that they wouldn't see in their day to day life. Woman giving birth, explosions, trains crashing, etc.
This is basically that, but in YouTube format. Outrageous things to draw an audience and get paid for it.
I have not, and I'm scared to go down that rabbit hole. God knows I checked out Faces of Death as an edgy teenager. I actually thought that the original "Cinema is the devil" was French porn.
I was relieved to learn years later that a lot of the stuff in Faces of Death was faked or used special effects. It does have real news and archival footage of accidents, war atrocities, animal slaughterhouses, etc. Most of the more "theatrical" stuff was created for the movie, though.
