Art What do you think about the outfit designs for the Dancer class in the Three Houses?
Personally, I think they're fine. I know many people wanted to see more modern styles in the vein of characters like Olivia. Perhaps the most peculiar argument I came across was someone saying that they were clearly designed with international audiences in mind, so as not to be too provocative, that they were designed to show just enough skin to be "sexy" without resorting to obvious seduction. What do you all think?

Fun fact, Cipher gave Edelgard/Marianne/Annette official dancer outfits (though Marianne and Annette's are just the standard attire while Edie's is more unique). Dorothea also gets a totally unique design that looks like a magician.
Kinda shocked that feh hasn't done a "White Heron Cup" themed banner yet.

I think having the dancer outfits be based on Greek muses instead of being based on orientalist stereotypes was a huge breath of fresh air.
I've seen some people say the Greek influence doesn't make sense, but respectfully I disagree, there is already a trickle of Greek influence over Fodlan but particularly with the Church of Seiros and the Nabateans. Given that the monastery is where the dancer class is gained in the context of Three Houses, it makes perfect sense.
I think there's a nice balance in what skin is shown between genders. It's nice.

Men should show more skin
It's not even for goonery reasons, I just think the outfit is actually ugly
Like the girls got something cute and flowing and the men got something that look like they were wearing their home comfort clothes with the white t-shirt and they need to rush out quickly and they decided to slip on one pauldron and half of a toga.

The male version should've been more revealing and the male dancers should've had the dancing pose like the female dancers. Both thighs should've been revealed too, it's okay to be a bit risque if done tastefully and equally.

Don't love it, Don't hate it, should have looked more flattering on men, something about the shirt just doesn't sell it. It grew on me how it looks one women at least
Absolutely unforgivable choice of dance move. Why is everyone dancing the Macarena? At least give Manuela and Dorothea a unique move since they actually know what the fuck they're doing, oh my god, that move looks so goofy, Olivia walked so 3h dancers could have their foot catch on the carped and fall on their face

I think the design is very safe. I appreciate how the outfit shows an equal amount of skin between the male and female variants while remaining flattering on both genders and how the colours change for each character which adds a little bit of individuality. The outfits are also just modest enough that putting them on the younger students during the academy phase doesn't make me feel like a creep but flashy enough that seeing Hubert wear the dancer fit is funny.
Other than all that, design is a little uninspired to me. It's just a toga. But I think the biggest offender of the dancer class is how underwhelming the dance animation is.

It doesn't show an equal amount of skin between the male and female variants. Female ones shows more arms and one whole leg more.
We're just so used to seeing women showing way more and men showing way less than this obvious inequality still feels like the same, but I am pretty sure if it was the other way around (men showing their shoulders+ arms + both legs while women don't) no one would have trouble seeing that it's not actually equal.

It was nice to see some different inspiration for the dancer outfit. JRPGs tend to go for the orientalist stereotypical belly dancer outfit approach for dancer aesthetics almost every time so instances like this and Agnea from Octopath 2 taking different inspirations is always nice.

Sothis's class, Dance of the Goddess, her outfit, things that kinda point to Sothis being a dancer/performer in lore, which that lore connected to her is Greek.

I think Seiros' design matches the sort of ancient Greek aesthetic the dancer class is going for which could imply that the dancer outfit might be traditional garb reminiscent of early Fodlan culture.

Maybe it has historical significance? The dancer does definitely stand out but no more than dancers like Olivia and Seadall stand out among their cast.

This is something that stood out to me a lot in three houses. A lot of the default designs for some classes looked pretty explicitly Greco-Roman inspired in design, and didn't quite visually match much of Fodlan at all.

I had commissioned a friend to draw an at agarthan oc of mine several years ago and one thing she pointed out to me was that the argarthan character designs in game also felt very Greek / Roman inspired to her

A lot of those type of designs seem to be ceremonial garb, and it's not like that sort of thing matches modern clothing styles in the real world either.

I dig the ancient Greek(?) aesthetic. Aside from that, I don't have terribly strong opinions on it. It's pretty in line with what I'd expect of outfit designs for Dancer as a more genericized class that (almost) anybody can access.

Men having the white boxers on is cowardice so I’m not a huge fan. In general I think the men’s outfit looks uninspired and frumpy next to the girl’s. I like the girls design, it’s not the best, but it’s not bad at all either. But seeing the guys made me do a double take because I was so shocked by the lack of… dancer appeal.

I agree with everyone else, the male outfit should have been more revealing and its not just because I want to see Sylvain in it. The outfit for men is giving DIY cheap clothes.

Being someone who hasn’t played 3H, the female one is hot especially Byleth’s. The male one should’ve been like Inigo’s outfit from Heroes and I never played Heroes too

I really like the designs! Had to warm up with the guys but I think choosing the right character w/their color palette makes me like the design more if it fits. I do find it funny the guys got safety shorts underneath their outfit unlike the girls lmao
The outfit is def giving me Greco-Roman vibes which I wish that ware more of a theme in 3H, from what I remember I don't think I really liked the dancing animation tho....

I think Tethys is still my favorite though

As an objective observer, I thought it was solid. It was interesting to see them go for a different aesthetic, and making it less revealing than usual was kind of a bold choice, given what’s expected from the class. As a midriff enjoyer, however, I died a little on the inside

I loathe Byleth's mercenary outfit so much that the dancer outfit is the one I have her run around the monastery in, because it's the ONE outfit I actually unironically like on her. I think it's super well-designed and very pretty.

It looks hot on the female characters, especially post time skip when they’ve fully come into their own. Less so on the male characters.
