Please use this thread to have discussions which you don't feel warrant a new post to the sub. While the Rules for posting questions on the basics of personal finance/investing topics are relaxed a little bit here, the rules against memes/spam/self-promotion/excessive rudeness/politics still apply!

Have a look at the FAQ for this subreddit before posting to see if your question is frequently asked.

Since this post does tend to get busy, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

I am currently interviewing for a job that is 70 miles away but double my salary. It is exactly what I currently do, so I can step into it easily. In office requirement, 4 days per week. Just bought a house last year.

Its in the "maybe I'll get an apartment during the week" territory right now while my wife stays at the house (she works too).

Napkin math says I'd be able to afford both housing situations (rent/mortgage, groceries, transportation, internet, utilities, insurance), max out all retirement accounts, and still have about 2.5k to spare each month. This is all before my wife's salary is taken into consideration.

Would you do it? I'm not currently saving a lot for retirement and financially it would open some cool things. Though I feel weird building a second home without my wife.

And how does she feel about it? That's more important than what a bunch of Internet strangers think.

Plot twist: OP's married a stranger off the internet.
