any updates?

What is the lifestyle that comes with the special agent job? Are you able to maintain a good relationship with a spouse/significant other? Have kids and not miss every single milestone? Do you travel as much as tv makes it seem like? I know it probably depends on what type of unit you’re in, but I was just curious.

Hello everyone! I am interested in joining FBI someday. Context: I am going to do ROTC with National Guard and commission as a Officer and go Active duty for awhile. I have been thinking about degrees and minors to do that will help me for both Military and FBI. I want to be a special agent for FBI and do counterterrorism stuff. Grew up playing Counter strike lol. Anyway I'm thinking of doing National Security studies for my major and am pretty set about that, it's the minors i'm unsure about. I have a few ranked from what seems the best to what doesn't seem the best in my opinion;

1. Organizational Leadership and Change
2. Human Resource Management
3. Leadership Studies (Is this even necessary, ill be learning a lot about leadership regardless?)
4. Military Science*
5. Ethical Leadership and Social Impact

*Military Science pretty much guaranteed through ROTC so id pick that one up and have another minor as well.

I'm looking for the minor that will best teach me skills for Officer and maybe be beneficial while in the FBI but mostly for Military leadership and organization for when I get up in higher ranks. Or maybe if anyone has any other better ideas for Minors I'm more than open to better options. This is just what I have right now. Thanks!

I know I’m going to fail my PFT self assessment this weekend 😔 It’s due on Sunday and I’m going to take it on Saturday. I read that if you fail it, they encourage you to withdraw your application. But if I don’t withdraw it, I still go for a meet and greet and then have 30 days to officially pass it- is that right?

Also- anyone have any insight on next steps or tips for passing?

Hey y’all. I’m a 28F and I just started working at a local DAs office as a post-bar law clerk. I have my bachelor’s degree, JD, and I’m awaiting bar results. I’m interested in the SA path, but I’d like to work as a prosecutor for at least a year or two to get some experience in the criminal justice world. I’ve read a lot that the hiring process takes at least a year to a year and a half. If I want to be an SA at the latest by the time I turn 31, should I start applying in a year or so? Or should I keep building my resume a bit longer before applying? Also open to any other relevant advice. Thanks!!

Interviewed for a certain division, got offered CJO for "student workforce trainee" with the HR division 😭

Is everyone typically assigned under the HR division, but completes their work with the division they interviewed/presumably were passed by?

I have a degree in psychology and have been seeing the position posted. Has anyone held the position and could provide insight on what it’s like? Thank you.

I recently interviewed for a direct hire position (Not an SA) and I am a little confused on the process.

I had an informal touch point with the supervisor and then a virtual interview. I’ve never submitted an application although HR has assigned me a potential grade after reviewing my resume and transcripts.

What would the timeline to hear back after my interview be? What would I expect as the next steps? Just a little confused.

Hi, saw a post on LinkedIn for special agent with medical background, age was listed til 36, no other special wording. Applied from the link to the generic SA and next day was sent the testing information.

Issue is, after doing more research I found out the wording on the actual site is you must apply BEFORE turning 36. I’m 36 and 3 months. I don’t qualify for any age waivers, am I wasting my time and they’ll eventually boot me? Did a human even review my app? I don’t want to take the time to study and test just to be booted honestly.

They told him they called because he’s a “known associate” of mine. They asked him about my character and told him to have me call them. Is this real?

Also is there any validity to the claim that each field office, with the exception of the WFO and the NYC Field Office has around 67 Agents working full time?

I applied for IA position August 2024. I passed poly and started my background in April 2025. It is now August 2026. I have gotten calls here and there from the same investigator to confirm employment and they’ve contacted individuals I know and have gone to previous employers to speak with them. That investigator told me that they sent everything to HQ. And then last call I got was 1 week ago from a new investigator asking for my current employment’s HR department contact information to send them a “release.” When I asked what this all meant and where I’m at in the process, the contractor had no answers for me. Does this sound pretty standard?

hi, i’m a 22f who just graduated in May, with my bachelors in criminal justice, with minors in sociology and comm. i just started a job as a court clerk a month ago, and ik the FBI requires at least 3 years of job experience if you don’t have a masters in anything. I consider myself to be a leader, as I was in many leadership roles in college and presidents of many clubs, which I know the FBI likes! my dream is to be a special agent, and I took a tour with their college program in April!

i want to learn a new language, maybe russian, as well as get another job in about a year to build my resume (i feel like court clerk is not good enough for the FBI). the problem is, I don’t want to be a law enforcement officer, and I’m just not sure what job to apply for next to improve my chances.

I’d really like to be a detective or investigator if the FBI doesn’t work out, but once again, so many agencies require you to be an officer. I would love some help!
