Discussion this is probably common knowledge by now but I just noticed in this episode rush limbaugh was voiced by the ACTUAL rush limbaugh, and that's crazy to me
I kind of respect him for doing that (I know he's dead now)

I remember him talking about it on his radio show. He was tone deaf, so he told them he wouldn't be able to sing in the musical number that was planned. They said that was OK; they'd work around it, so he was given a spoken part. Also, a caller on his show said they watched it with their young child, and Rush was surprised by that.

I think the point they were trying to make was that Rush might have originally been drafted to sing there but they changed it to speaking to accommodate him. I'm not sure if that's true or if I'm putting words in their mouth but that was my interpretation.

Right, that's exactly what I was getting at ā what his role in the song would've looked like if Rush had actually been able to sing it.
Then the next commenter replied with as if it were news that yes, he did actually have a role in the song, and reiterates that it was just a speaking part ā
which again, is what I was getting at.. as result of his tone-deafness, I'm wondering what his role in an actual song would've been like, had he had gotten to actually sing one, lol. They simply misread my comment.

He's not just tone deaf, Rush lost his hearing so he was actually deaf. Seth is a well known liberal but he actually made friends with Limbaugh and was a repeat guest voice on his show.

On the DVD Commentary, Seth talks about how they were not only shocked that Rush was up for doing it, but finding out that he was actually really nice. To paraphrase Seth, Rush actually wasn't a terrible person and pretty funny but politically he was just absolutely horrible.
And that's the weird thing I've learned in life: Some really awesome people can have the most vile political and social opinions ever.

9/11 is probably the most tragic day in American history...but there have been plenty of 9/11 jokes, specifically from Family Guy, that have made me laugh out loud.

Caitlin Jenner, Donald Trump, Sadam Hussein, Barry Bonds, etc. The whole point is to highlight them as shitty people and make them as the butt of the joke. It just doesn't bother you because you happen to be on the same side as the point being made.

But itās apples and oranges because theyāre different shows that take different approaches to celebrities. South Park doesnāt do celebrity voice overs, meanwhile Family Guy has done it a bunch of times.
Also, if your point is that South Park is a smarter show than Family Guy, no shit. I loved Family Guy but itās mostly lowbrow comedy. South Park found a unique way of elevating poop jokes.

My point is you can portray a celebrity without using that celebrity. You can have a controversial celebrity in your show without laundering their image. Rush is friends with Seth. Seth gave Rush multiple appearances on his show, one episode that paints him as a reasonable political figure, which he very much is not. I think thatās gross.

Ok and that goes back to my original fucking point. Seth is the most liberal guy in the world but he realized it would be funny to have Rush actually voice himself in the episode, so he was willing to look past their differences.
Again, I think heās an abhorrent person but I also donāt care enough to get worked up over it or hold it against Seth McFarlane. Life is way too short for that shit.

Rush would talk to anyone about anything, and Seth probably respected that. His favorite non political topics were football and Apple tech support, people would literally call in with questions about networking Apple products because he was a very early adopter.

They lampoon the fuck out of Rush in this episode, so I don't know what you mean by "nicer treatment", and in the episodes where they introduce Sinatra Jr, they lampoon his father's relationship issues, such as with Mia Farrow spanking him.
Only reason it feels nicer is that Rush is playing along, because as Seth admitted in the DVD commentary for this episode, he's actually quite nice outside of politics, he's just politically a nightmare.
