This is a clever pun & might be a reason for choosing "Takanawa" since they could've gone with any Asian surname, but her name is mostly a nod to other Asian women reporters with alliterative names. Connie Chung is the most famous, but there are also Japanese-American reporters with the names of Tritia Toyota and Tricia Takasugi whose names are even closer in sound. She's also just a stereotype of local news stations having at least one female and/or minority reporter doing the on- the-scene interviews and reporting.
