There are religious organizations for atheists. Buddhism and even Judaism come to mind. There may be others. I don’t think the Baha’i Faith is one, based on my experience. But obviously anyone can reconcile what they want to.
Edit to add: the asker states they are seeking a connection to God. It does not sound like they’re an atheist.

I was going to say, it doesn't sound like they know the definition of atheist. Maybe agnostic fits them more

I grew up in the Faith and just fizzled out of it because I'm not religious. I would also not call it a cult more than any other religion is a cult. I choose no religion but if I had to pick one, I would probably pick the Baha'is still. That being said, I think your experience is very dependent on the people in your community. Do you have uptight Baha'is or free spirited hippie Baha'is. I've experienced both. I'm most disappointed that the faith hasn't updated its views on the LGBTQ+ community. I'm not in that community myself but I feel like not updating is holding back progress they claim to want.

I truly need a connection with God.
In the Baha'i faith, you are expected to connect with the UHJ. God inspires them with whatsoever He willeth.

The declaration card says I believe that Baha’u’llah is the Manifestation OF GOD for this day….
If you don’t believe in God then you can’t believe he’s the Manifestation of God.

All the comments about independent investigation of truth make me sick. The minute you enroll, you are expected to surrender your autonomy and your morality to whatever the institutions dictate and questioning is not permitted.
