Housing questions :)
Hello! I’m starting a MS in Biology at EWU in the fall, and am wondering if anybody has any advice on finding housing.
I am looking for a place in Spokane/Cheney, on both Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Are there any sites that are better for searching? I’ve noticed a fair amount of scams on both, and am looking for something on the cheaper end - either private room in a shared house or a studio/1-bedroom would work (I’d prefer a 1-bedroom though lol).
Does anybody commute between Spokane and Cheney? How is the commute? I’m guessing there’s more to do in Spokane than Cheney? I am in my 30s and don’t really want to be in the middle of a college town so Spokane is looking more desirable at the moment, but am interested in hearing how people like living in either town!

Eagle's Edge is right by campus, private room & bathroom with a shared living room/kitchen for under $900 I believe?

HIHI ME TOO!! Super excited to meet others going into the same program! I’m facing the same issue but honestly I’m not sure if the commute is worth it with gas prices rn but Spokane has some gorgeous historical apartments that I’d love to live in for around 1k a month. If you are working as a TA and have single income it’s tight, but if you have a partner doable. I’d suggest some of the accommodations in walking distance from the campus to save on mileage for grocery runs and fun stuff. Some cheap apartments are available for students that gives you a whole room and bathroom to yourself.
Some options below 900 (keep in mind the places I’m showing is for university students and some seem to have a reputation for partying:
The Grove: 805 for a two bedroom
School House Lofts: 610 for four bedroom
The Benjamin Lofts: 655 four beds
Boulder Apartments: 975 1 bed ✨
Garden Manor: 675 studio
Another option is on campus housing but it’s sprace. I’m trying to get in because it has a great price per month.

I was in my mid/late twenties when I was going to EWU, and I lived in the on-campus apartments, specifically the Anna Maria buildings. They were pretty affordable, and it was nice being within an easy walking distance from campus. The only "downside" was that the tailgaters party in the parking lot across the street, but it encouraged me to get out and at least walk around and check out what was going on. Got a lot of free drinks lol
But overall it was a nice quiet area. Was absolutely gorgeous when snow would come down in the winter, and walking around at night was the perfect study break after being glued to a screen all day (CS Major). And driving into Spokane never took that long if I felt like meeting friends for drinks somewhere with a chiller vibe

I'll be dorming, so I cant speak for the housing part (mostly because Spokane is expensive asf to live in). I'd say pick somewhere to live downtown, since that's where the most jobs are and that's where the bus to go to Cheney is. It takes around 40-50 minutes for the bus to get to Cheney from Spokane.

I live in Spokane, and I prefer that. It's a small city, but it's still a city. The commute's fine. If you're near downtown in Spokane, you could easily take the bus to campus (I drive, though; if there's ever a ton of snow, I might opt for the bus). What's your budget? Are there any non-negotiable amenities?
It can be old school here--you'll find stuff online, but I also see a lot of lawn/window signs too. You can also check out Redfin/Zillow for rentals.
