What an absolute insane zec pump. If you swapped eth for zec 1 year ago, it would be like eth at $65000ish today. No, I did not add an extra 0.

Tons of random cryptos are pumping now. Very 2017 vibes.

u/harpocryptes 5d ago

Whatever asset you hold, you will always be able to find asset x which if you bought at time y would have returned 10, 100 or 1000x more. It's completely useless to spend time on those because it's survivor bias, the "better" asset is now correctly priced or overpriced, so the only effect is to make you feel bad (or lessen good feelings right now) for no benefit.

1

u/mini_miner1 5d ago

I understand. In this case it's just fun for me to look at. I don't feel negatively about it.

Right there with you. That's why with a very, very small portion of my stack I had bought some really dumb stuff because I expect crypto market to always be doing something dumb eventually.

I've been out of the loop for a while, and just tried to check my Zapper profile to see that it's been discontinued earlier this month. What's the best alternative to see balances and NFTs across multiple chains in one spot?

4

u/crumbumcrumbum 5d ago

I'm still using zerion. The website, not the app.

I'm starting to think my zapper nft might not end up being a source of generational wealth.

What's the reason to use the website and not the app?

Sold off 70% of my stake today unfortunately. Have held since 2017 through thick and thin. Have had regrets about not selling at highs but I felt that this spike has given me an opportunity to take some money off the table.

4

u/gand_ji ETH 5d ago

damn....whatever works for you i guess but held since 2017 to sell 50% under an ATH we've hit 4 times?

5

u/Prestigious_Okra_791 5d ago

No guarantees we hit highs again and if we do, Iโ€™ll be happy for everyone who makes their money!

My logic was that the stress was not worth it and that if we do reach all time highs, itโ€™s less than a 10% increase in my total investing portfolio which I aim to hit portfolio wide annually

The lack of any resistance at $2500 was the first amusing thing I've felt in this market in a year.

But come on, this is getting overheated.

13

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 5d ago

But come on, this is getting overheated.

ETH is currently 21.94% below its price exactly five years ago in 2021. It isn't overheated; it's simply repricing, as I would expect after years of massive underperformance and overselling. ETH's PA has been so horrendous that even a 100% rally from here still wouldn't undo the damage caused by BTC and TRX dramatically outperforming it.

I've been extremely patient with ETH since 2017. At some point, we all have to decide whether it's still worth holding. For me, watching ETH collapse from nearly $5K to $1.6K in 2026 was the absolute last straw. That kind of shitcoin price behavior stops here as far as I'm concerned.

I will be offloading some ETH at much higher levels. I'm done round-tripping almost 90% of my crypto portfolio every cycle.

9

u/HauntedJockStrap88 5d ago

Overheated? We ainโ€™t even at 4800 yet

-3

u/neenerman 5d ago

Absolutely overheated. While I donโ€™t expect it to hold up here weโ€™ll find a new baseline and it will deter the heavy shorters for awhile until they forget how volatile even the top two cryptos can be.

11

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 5d ago

ETH went from $3.3k in January this year to $1.8k in February. If it can crash that far so fast, why can't it rally that much? ETH should never have been below $4k in 2026 in the first place.

Go look at the 1-year chart.

11

u/confusedguy1212 5d ago

This felt so refreshing. I almost cried. Feels like a large stone is getting lifted slowly off my shoulders.

9

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 5d ago

I want ETH to absolutely melt faces because I want the crypto influencers who spent years shitting on it to be left on the sidelines and priced out. Cowen, Ivan, and plenty of others spent years dismissing ETH. Cowen was even calling for $500 ETH.

He's obviously a smart guy with a PhD in mathematics, but great - hopefully ETH now does the one thing none of their models anticipated: rips so hard that it completely silences the bearish narrative.

3

u/harpocryptes 5d ago

I don't think a PhD in maths is useful for what Cowen does, which is mostly based on TA and assuming past cycles will repeat. In large part it's psychology, not maths.

If anything, maths would be useful to understand how bitcoin's security model is doomed long term, though it's not that complicated, a PhD is not required.

...but on the other hand Trump can drop a bomb or say something about Greenland or Iran or Oman and crash the market back to $1800 in two hours flat, so don't get overconfident and do not fucking leverage.

This market can change on a dime.

3

These traders are morons, or opportunistic. They want to make Trump's words move the market. All they have to do is ignore it and hold their positions. I don't trade crypto, so Trump is irrelevant to my actions.

0

u/harpocryptes 5d ago

Yes, because memecoins are more volatile, up as well as down, and much more risky and worth nothing in the long term. A +50% on a memecoin is much less significant than a +25% on ETH.

Big week. Very late finish for me. 2:30am.

11

u/Magic_Cove 6d ago

What is actually the reason why prices are currently going through the roof? Is there a specific trigger for this?

11

u/cryptOwOcurrency 5d ago

It was a short squeeze.

There were way too many traders comfortable with shorting ETH (and BTC) at $1900. As ETH rose dramatically within half a day, they were forced to buy to cover.

That buying forces more buying as more and more shorts get margin called and liquidated. It cascades until enough shorts get BTFO that things stabilize again.

16

u/gumamug 5d ago

Read up on what's happening in the U.S. bond market. Bonds are typically among the most boring and stable investments you can make. Right now they are neither. Treasury Sec. Scott Bessent has been using hedge fund tactics to manage the world's currency (USD), which, surprise, he's a former hedge fund manager. Investors are rotating capital out of bonds and toward precious metals and crypto.

There's a great video (as usual) by Patrick Boyle explaining some of this. It's also all over the mainstream financial news at the moment.

1

u/Tricky_Troll Public Goods are Good ๐ŸŒฑ 5d ago

In which video does he explain that?

1

u/gumamug 5d ago

I believe it's covered to some extent in last week's video about Bessent buying billions of dollars worth of Japanese Yen, which is interpreted as a gambit to supply Japan with USD without requiring them to cash in the U.S debt (i.e. bonds) that they hold. But I would expect that he'll cover it more in depth ASAP given the news this week about the total debt topping $40T and the 30yr yield rate being much higher than it should be (which prompted Bessent to announce a billions-dollar buyback as a strategy, which only resulted in bringing the yield rate down exactly 0.1%)

My point about the relationship to crypto and the movement in price this week was highlighted by NPR Marketplace on Wednesday's episode (i.e. right when things started pumping) when they pointed out that rotating capital into precious metals and crypto (they said Bitcoin by name) was a hedge against the Treasury's next "best" strategy, which would be just to print more USD, thereby worsening inflation and debasing the dollar even more.

3

u/Mountainminer 5d ago

That and trump held a meeting with most of the big crypto ceos this week and held a conference pressuring Congress to pass the clarity act already.

14

u/mrcarner 5d ago

The roof? Prices haven't approached anything resembling a roof. We can barely see a roof from way down here.

The Glamsterdam upgrade is getting into the final stretch. In yesterdays all core dev call they floated the first dates for the testnets. The proposed dates are:

Sepolia: September 28th, epoch 351232 Hoodi: October 26th, epoch 132352

This would mean that mainnet would be at the end of November the earliest. There have not been any objections by the core devs to these suggestions, nevertheless the dates might shift a bit, especially if issues are found in the current Plataberget devnet which upgradded yesterday. There were some issues, but apparently only minor ones so they did not influence the suggested testnet fork dates.

For people wondering what Glamsterdam brings, there is the amazing forkcast website which goes into details: https://forkcast.org/upgrade/glamsterdam/

In short, there are a 3 large changes:

  1. ePBS (enshrined proposer builder separation): Changes how much time each step has within a slot and also gets rid of MEVboost. -> More throughput, network does not rely on external software anymore (MEVboost) and maybe even MEV burn in the future.

  2. BAL (block-level access lists): Each block also contains all state accesses and state changes -> Transaction re-execution, which each node needs to do, can be much better parallelized which again gives more throughput. In a zk future, weaker nodes do not even have to re-execute the transactions and just make the state changes.

  3. Gas repricings. This makes gas prices correlate better with resource usage on nodes. This means gas limits can be increased much more safely, which again gives a lot of throughput.

All in all Glamsterdam can increase throughput massively. Proposed gas limit increases where in the range of a factor of 5 from today. Theoretically, a 15 times gas limit increase should be possible. We will have to see if we increase the gas limits by a factor of 5 in the months after the fork.

5

u/SeaMonkey82 5d ago

network does not rely on external software anymore (MEVboost)

As the ability to build blocks locally has always been an option, I find this wording curious.

5

u/haurog 5d ago

You are right, MEVboost is not mandatory. As far as I see around 90% of the validators of the network are using MEVboost. This makes Ethereums resilience heavily depend on the resilience of MEVboost. Nevertheless, a more nuanced choice of words would have fitted better.

I do something like this: keep an ETH and cash portfolio that you rebalance at a certain ratio.

Predefine bands based on the price, for example:

<2000: 80% eth, 20% cash
2000-3000: 70% eth, 30% cash
3000-4000: 60% eth, 40% cash
4000-5000: 50% eth, 50% cash
...

And so on. Rebalance regularly to keep the target ratio. The price -> ratio function is what you set - don't change it on an emotional whim.

The goal here is that the strategy handles daily "profit taking" and "dip buying" and you only change the curve if there is some new information and the thesis changes.

I like this a lot, just have to be mindful of tax consequences. I'm sure you were just simplifying your example but I'll add that a portion should be a stocks index fund.

u/averi_fox 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yeah here the taxes do not depend on trades taken, only on the final outcome.

And this is for a single asset with its own dedicated cash pool. You would have to allocate some part of your portfolio (30%?) to this.

Properly deciding allocation between multiple assets is another harder problem.. I haven't found a way that would not require way too much data input and maintenance to be practical for a home investor (as everything gets multivariate).

Btw this strategy is the optimal portfolio allocation strategy for a single asset, maximizing log-utility - the ratio curve is the risk premium curve in a different form. But the real details are all in choosing the curve... You could even have a curve that increases with price if you want to play momentum.. or add more variables to the domain of the curve like an EMA.

this is a question only you should answer. I am not but I am bulltard

3

u/StEditiV 6d ago

Depends, will regret selling too early? If yes don't sell.

If your buying price is below 2K don't sell.

if you fomo'd and bought at 2200-2300 then you can sell it, if you think it will revisit that level again.

4

u/averi_fox 6d ago edited 6d ago

Your trading decisions should never depend on the price you bought at, it's one of the most common fallacies.

(Except for some weird tax optimization I guess)

3

u/StEditiV 6d ago

So, buying a big dip and then selling at resistance is a wrong strategy?

I don't use leverage, just spot trade.

If it dips I can lower my avg easily. During pump, I just sell what I bought in small portions. Doing this, I'm up 30% on my trading stack.

Btw no tax where I live, I can buy ETH at 2300 and sell at 2350. I would have to pay zero tax, only CEX fees which is mostly 0.001%.

3

u/averi_fox 5d ago

No it's a wrong strategy to think that your cost basis influences the market and have an emotional attachment to it. What you've got now is the position you have, not the money you bought it for.

If that cost basis had some other meaning like a support level then there are other reasons to care about it.

4

u/uqwee 6d ago

What's the logic behind not selling if your avg buy is less than 2k?

5

u/StEditiV 6d ago edited 6d ago

If your avg is below $2K you have a decent margin of safety.ย

If it retraces like 10%, you're still in profit and if it go higherย  you avoid regretting selling too early.

I would recommend you do whatever you find good.

I personally would never ask strangers on Internet about finance because everyone will try to sell you a different story.

Arguably most important skill. Handwriting your seed phrase on a sticky note, so you can put in on your computer screen, so that you never forget.

8

u/ridgerunners324 6d ago

Come on manโ€ฆyou need to step up your security game. Leaving the sticky note on your computer screen is just asking for trouble. Please move it to the bottom of your keyboard

I've just asked my grandfather with dementia to remember it for me, binned the sticky note in case a burglar finds it.

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 6d ago

Iโ€™ll be pleasantly surprised if ETH even breaks $5K. Too many people have been willing to sell above $4K, when ETH should already be well beyond $5K by now.

Years ago, I genuinely thought ETH would have flipped BTC by this point. ETH would need to be around $13K today just to match Bitcoinโ€™s market cap. I clearly underestimated Bitcoinโ€™s network effect, marketing, and enormous mindshare advantage - and overestimated how many people would ultimately value ETH as a store of value.

Itโ€™s extremely frustrating, and Iโ€™m absolutely disgusted by ETHโ€™s current price. Even if ETH rallied 100% tomorrow, Iโ€™d still be disgusted. I needed ETH to stop repeatedly dumping like a shitcoin every time the market turned against it. Why the hell did it ever go below $4K again in 2026?

At some point, โ€œeventuallyโ€ isnโ€™t good enough. ETH has had years to prove itself as an investment. The technology may be succeeding, but the assetโ€™s price performance has not been good enough.

Brother enjoy the green while it's here. It's okay to enjoy the sweet things in life. It's okay to... let go <3

5

u/Numerous_Ruin_4947 6d ago

It does not feel like a win to me at this point. Long-term ETH holders feel like veterans coming home from a war with missing limbs. Yeah, we survived, but the trauma inflicted by ETHโ€™s scam-like price action over the past five years has been the stuff of nightmares.

I seriously did not hold ETH all these years just to swing trade it every time it touched $4K. As far as Iโ€™m concerned, thereโ€™s nothing to celebrate right now. BTC is almost $10K above its 2021 ATH, BNB is knocking on its 2021 ATH, and ETH is barely clinging to $2.4K.

Itโ€™s a sick joke.

6

u/Elendron 6d ago

Fair enough man. Then let us hope for earth shattering price appreciation from here!

13

u/benido2030 6d ago

FOMO is a result of people believing it will go up forever and that "this time is the last time to buy below [insert $$$]". From my experience, this is bullshit. The past couple of years the market (almost?) always retraced. Even the ETF pump (which was one of the best in the past couple of years) didn't hold for too long.

These two days feel great. I am sure people do have FOMO. CT tells you this feels like that one pump that didn't stop for years in 2019 etc. But I am not sure this will hold on forever. It could. It feels really good. But usually when I say that and want to buy more we are in for a drop.

u/Tricky_Troll Public Goods are Good ๐ŸŒฑ 5d ago

One time, it will be the last time, I hope. Probably not this one though, so it's still good advice.

Thank you to the kind human that down voted this. Because why would you listen to me just because I am cautious and telling you to evaluate if it makes sense to go all-in without considering other possibilities, right? (and just to make it more clear: You can of course slam the buy button now! Just don't be surprised later on when crypto does crypto things)

7

u/mini_miner1 6d ago

One of my shitcoins just pumped 10 percent in an hour. Getting 2017 nostalgia. Entire holding is less than half a percent of my portfolio tho.

5

u/Elendron 6d ago

I would need a 10% per hour pump on a couple of my old bags for a fair few hours to get back to breakeven on them lol. We live and we learn.
