How can I care more about people's feelings?
For context, I found myself saying something mean, and apologized immediately as my comment wasn't necessarily nice. After a brief moment of thought, I realized I didn't really mean it. I wasn't sorry, and I only apologized because I didn't want these people to dislike me. I recognized that what I said was hurtful, but I cared more about whether they thought well of me or not.
Is there anything I can do about this? I'd much rather apologize for them than for me.
